I love how the end of this video makes it look like the end of the movie is just Eddie’s baseball team winning without him, him losing the food competition, and just staring off camera with tears building in his eyes.
Wait, so Bridgett is the school outcast just because she loves cooking???? That's even crazier than Andrew Garfield being the school outcast in Amazing Spider-man.
@@idk-ql3xs that's cuz it's normal for a woman to be in the kitchen lol Calm down! Its just a joke! I'm a dude and I'm an avid cook myself. Tbh I would've loved to have a cooking class in high school so I could've learn this stuff earlier. It's a life changer and I have still room to grow. Anyone can cook, all they have to do is try
Bridgett winning was the one redeeming factor, especially after the movie shits on her every single scene. The teacher saying she has no passion for it, as if she didn't start the fucking class by reading through the entire outline and making suggestions. Like ma'am if you think that's the case TELL HER. YOU ARE A TEACHER. THAT IS YOUR JOB. I'm glad she won. I genuinely cannot stand this trope of "Character A who has trained extensively in this activity for years but will magically lose to Character B who just discovered it a week ago and barely understands anything about it at all"
This was filmed in New Zealand and I think half the cast had to hide their accents. The mom, the 2 blonde girls and both of Eddie's brothers are all Kiwis!
Ya know, shout out to Nancy Lenehan, who plays the Home Ec teacher. She played "random teacher/Mom/counselor" in everything back then, and it's always a delight to see her just show up and slay.
The fact that the school chooses to have a free-for-all elective sign-up rather than just having kids fill out forms and drop them off at the office or hand them in at homeroom is wild to me. They really want some kid to get trampled in the hallway.
I remember watching this movie as a child and thinking oh Eddie is like a whole old teenager/young adult. Like a senior going to college and so mature. And now as an adult im like...that's a child!
Considering what we know about cooking channel competitions today. You know Eddie lost because of his last minute decision on how to include the lemon. Most judges will claim it wasn’t really creative or transformative.
This is actually the movie I watched as a young boy which gave me the idea to become a chef, now I've been a chef for 16 years. And nobody knows why except me!
This commentary track made me laugh my ass off. The only memories I had from this movie as a kid was their blatant disrespect and abuse of food, and the absolutely vomit inducing creations Eddie made
My only memory was cracking an egg with one hand, and how Eddie learned how to do it and then in the climax the Dad learned and it was a huge bonding moment but even as a child I found it silly
Oh also I almost forgot about the “I’m worried our son is gay/a girl” metaphor. I still remember Eddie having to stealth watch _cooking shows_ so his family didn’t judge him!
@@DeathnoteBB from what I remembered the dad was able to do the egg thing naturally and he got so surprised by Eddie's reaction to it he thought he was doing it wrong.
7:58 I say this all the time! The cooking stereotype for both women and men is so weird because even though cooking is so feminized, most actual professional chefs and even bakers are men. It is a perfect example of both sexism against women (and how it can be double edged in a way that is a lose/lose situation) as well as sexism against men through toxic masculinity.
My mom taught all me and my siblings how to cook. I’m a dude and I love cooking. I think it’s the stupidest stereotype that only woman can cook. I would I in the kitchen and most of the cooks are men as well as other restaurants. Sure there are females to but it’s like half half in the restaurant I work at so I mean, you would think that old thinking would be gone now. Especially with all the cooking shows like you said
yup, one of several fields that are stereotypically feminine but at the highest-paid, professional level, are dominated by men. similar to fashion and makeup. i guess we're only allowed to be good at those things if we aren't getting paid for it 🙃
I've literally never heard of this movie but it's actually kind of incredible how MUCH like High School Musical it is. It almost feels like they just took the screen play for this and changed a few things to make the other one lol
The whole Bridget has no passion thing is literally just the whole chef/cook thing. Like food preparation is art when men do it and a simple chore when women do it.
Agreed, the movie seemingly tried to portray her as this hawk, with no drive, without actually showing that. That whole speech really brought the movie down for me.
for the record there's another scene like the one with the blender where Eddie recreates the bbq sauce at home (probably where scott was thinking of the purple) so he does send in an actual recipe. Gotta give my man a little credit 😂
@@PrettyMuchIt ty, you're the actual best ☺️💕 i always feel like i'm sitting down n watching movies with a friend when i watch ur videos. love a trip down memory lane with disney channel original movies- luck of the irish, smart house and this one still kinda hold a place in my heart despite not aging well lmao.
Watched this when Disney plus came out, and the first thing me and my brother realised was this movie is legit just a metaphor for Eddie being gay, from the interactions to his friends being upset to the end, everyone understanding. I dunno there's nothing wrong with cooking (being gay), so on the nose but it was appreciated, I think, for the time it first came out (no pun intended)
So glad you called out this is just High School Musical. I’ve been saying this for years! I saw this and then watched HSM back when it came out and Halfway through HSM I was like… this is the exact same plot of Eddie’s Million Dollar Cookoff… I’ve been telling people this for the last 15 years!
Of course he deserved to lose. He came in half-cocked with a hobbyist’s interest, had to get his daddy’s help, forgot one of the main ingredients until the last second, and had a support group the whole time. That poor smart girl had nobody, not even her family came to cheer her on. She deserved a win and a scholarship to culinary school.
I love this movie. I used to watch cooking shows when I was a kid and teen and I whole heartedly freaked out when I saw that they had chef Bobby Flay in this movie 🤓
I absolutely love how Eddie’s team wins the game because the kid sliding into home was dead to rights, and somehow to catcher left his legs wide open and watched the kid go right through them without making an attempt to tag him😂😂
EDDIE! EDDIE!! EDDIE!!! celebrate our first annual EDDIE COLLAB by checking out our video on scott's channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n1n-KN-rjXQ.html
This one had NO reason being this funny!!! Literally cackling, "no wait the emphasis is important. And I thought my SHIT tasted good is very different than, and I thought MY shit tasted good."
Omg! I just watched this on Disney+ just the other day. I’ve been watching all of those old Disney Channel Movies. Eddies Million Dollar Cook-Off, The Luck of the Irish, Johnny Tsunami, Double Teamed. They’re so awesome!
16:44 a member of the other team also had to run off to follow their passion. This video gave me a stupid idea for a movie or short: a regular kid just trying to live a regular un-zany life in the Disney Channel Movie Universe. So many food fights. Every big event or school dance is marred with the public shaming of bullies, emotional speeches and people running off to follow their dreams. This kid just wants to graduate and go to college but he's failing because he somehow keeps getting mixed up in other people's wacky antics.
Alright! The boys are back with an absolute flavorful banger lol I remember watching the trailers for this when I was a kid and even then I was confused about the premise. Its bad........... to learn to cook??? I'm an avid cook and I'm totally proud of my delicious dishes I can make. Seriously cooking is *SUCH* a useful skill and I'm still learning and growing Honestly your guy's commentary has me in stitches. I mean women in kitchen jokes just pretty much write themselves lol
Omg thank you Scott for mentioning pretty much it. I watched you and Scott do the man vs wild episode and i thought you were hilarious. Happy to find this channel. *dog comes into thebkitchen* "ITS EDDIE MC DOWD!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I just found Scott's channel like a week or less ago and I found the video they did on his channel. And then I immediately came here to watch this one bc these two are fucking hilarious together. I really hope they have more collabs together lol
I just want y’all to know I stumbled across your channel through a series of RU-vid suggestions during a week where I needed it most and the simple way you mimicked Orlando Brown’s “I WANT my handheld” did it enough for me to get me through this evening shift. Thank you & please keep doing what you’re doing 😅😂
I remember being so shocked when he didn't win as a kid. It made other movies better because all the sudden it was possible for the main character to not get everything they ever wanted. It also It's kinda a good lesson in that even if you follow your dreams, you might still come up short. There is always someone better than you.
This Collab was needed ❤️ I laughed the whole time in Scotts video which brought me here and I did the same. It was needed ❤️ thanks guys. You definitely need to do more video's together. 😎
Holy shit I totally forgot all about this movie but now every little detail of this shit is flooding back in my brain from like 15 years ago out of nowhere lmao. I used to love this movie so much as a kid and seeing this now is making me love it even more lol. And man, I used to think these kids looked so old back then too, but these are dang children lol it's always crazy to run back into forgotten things from childhood like this and still being able to remember so much
