@very droll Before Snowden's leaks, we "knew" the US spied on everyone, and we were fairly sure it also spied on its own citizens, but aside from a few things here and there, there was little proof, and we didn't know the methods. Snowden leaked the actual NSA documents that proved what that organisation was doing, how it was doing it, and to what extent. This is the difference between knowing your neighbour is dealing drugs because you often see random people dropping by and they seem to own fancy stuff that unemployed people usually don't, and knowing what drugs they're dealing, who they're selling it to, and how they make it, because you saw into their garage and all the stuff was there.

Name me literally one financial instution with a max 6 character rule on their website that can concurrently be used to actually manage personal finances.

Capital one (.ca anyways) is one of the worst offenders. not only do you have a max of 6 (or was it 8?) characters, it's not even case sensitive. now I'm not sure if you can actually move money when you're logged in, but it would certainly give people more information than I would be comfortable with. but the 8 character limit is shared (if I remember correctly) with CIBC, and I believe TD Bank as well.
