Upgraded my 1991 Civic DX gauge cluster with a '91 Civic SI cluster! I have no idea why Honda would not put a tachometer in a manual transmission car... I must have one when driving a manual trans car. I show you a full how to swap clusters on your EF Civic in this video. A issue comes up at the end which causes my tach not to work at all, so I must install a new distributor as well.

Great swap thanks for the super detailed info. This encouraged me to do the swap to my 90’ base civic. Picked up the dual dial cluster from a 91 4dr sedan and swapped them. No rewiring or cutting or anything. Simple swap and everything works. Tanx

Thank you for posting this video. I took it a step further. I simply took off the two screws for the housing of the trip odometer. The metal frame is identical It slid out and simply screwed it into the new odometer housing. Both have the same size sprocket and it works perfectly. Hope this helps someone so they don’t have to go through removing the pin and messing with that spring.

I did the same swap on my 91 EF but required no work distributor wise. However, the gauge cluster came from an automatic so I wonder if that changed anything? When the car sits overnight the speedo and tach don’t work for a couple of seconds before kicking back on but they’ve never had any issues since I installed it.

You dont have to go through all that trouble to swap out the faceplate, you could have just dremeled the excess plastic covering the turn signal. That's how I did mine. Took about 10 seconds and makes a very clean cut. No need to swap the odometer around. Great video though, solid info, well explained.

If it is any help to anyone. I have a 1989 Civic Hatchback DX and bought a 1989 Civic Sedan cluster and was able to swap the speedo w/ trip cluster to cluster with zero modifications.
