your channel is even more interesting than wranglerstar in many ways. professionally you have big advantage over him. you're a true homesteder. you were burn into homesteading. the only thing that I miss in your videos is the atmosphere. I'm sure that you have a very special atmosphere there and I hope you'll learn how to pass it to us through editing, music etc… all in all - pleasure to watch!

your trailer is the best trailer I've ever seen! that would make life so much easier for when I cut fire wood. And I like that you have a Honda I've been using Honda's for a very long time mine is a old Foreman 400 I use for running my trap line and snow plowing it's been an excellent machine no problems with it and it's a 99. Any way great video thanks for putting it up.

one of my sons thought you had said something about how short your winter days were,but could not remember in which video.They think you said sunrise was at 9:00 am. and sunset around 3:30 or 4:00 pm. Is your winter sunlight that short? No wonder you need those headlamps. Thanks for your updates and p.s.they got a real thrill from the fact that you responded to one our comments. To quote my father "May your children and your children's children rise up and call you blessed.

Glad to see this series! It's obvious that you guys take great pride in your work, when you get to the video where you will be using the LT40 could you try to show in detail how the sawmill is built and how everything functions together? I know that you try to keep videos short but a video going over the details of your woodmizer would be awesome.I'm looking forward to the upcoming videos.

Great little trailer! Love the winch and boom, and how the trailer and boom extend. Nice little workhouse I bet. Early Spring about 4 years ago I helped my uncle do this. We cut down maple trees in his sugar bush where he used to run sap, and boil it. Used older, non-producing trees as firewood. He had a winch attached to the back of a tractor which ran from the PTO. You could put 3-4 trees on it, and run it 60+ feet out, release the brake and it'd slide them out. A little dangerous but worked quite well if there was line of sight. Especially when you had 4-5 feet of snow on the ground.

I remember Weyerhaeuser Timber demonstrating a chainsaw that would clamp to the tree trunk and go around and around with the blade pointed up and cut off the small dead branches. after so many turns it would reverse and come back down. This management allowed them to get more not free lumber.

Hi Simeon, I finally made it to the end and got caught up on all your past videos since October. I say, it is an interesting way to handle comments on videos, but that kind of makes sense with over 20,000 subscribers. It's easy to get overwhelmed otherwise. So my question is how much can you share about your homestead as far as it's location, like the nearest town? I would like to visit it on Google Earth. Also all of your camera work (and editing) being done with one camera. I hope you can get a second camera and a good microphone, and a drone. Drone footage of your farm would be amazing (maybe watching a sunrise or sunset). Cheers, Bill

The Kranman trailer was a surprise, I mentioned Kranman log trailers in a comment a few days ago. I haven't seen one like yours though with the hoist running off a winch. Hope to see more of the trailer in detail, it's clever the way most of the small log trailers can be extended. Did the trailer come with the hoist installed or did you fit it to the trailer yourselves? I was working recently dealing with windblown Spruce, I had the use of a quad but no trailer so I used a portable Honda engined capstan winch (PCW5000) to extract the logs out to where a larger tractor could load them, it's very labour intensive which is why I'm very interested in a log trailer to go with a quad bike.
@simeonandalex
@simeonandalex 7 лет назад
I think the trailer came the way you saw it when we had assembled it. Thanks for the info.

Simeon, I see you are now well past 20,000 subscribers. Bravo. I'm curious what that means in revenue? Can you say, even in round numbers, what that might be per month? You sure get your money's worth out of that ATV. What a versatle workhorse it is for you. Pretty cool trailer too.
@simeonandalex
@simeonandalex 7 лет назад
Hey there. We are blessed to have that many subscribers after such a short time but subscribers by themselves have nothing to do with revenue. That is more connected with views but even that is not entirely correct. RU-vidrs get payed when people click on the ads or watch them. The ad rates vary very much as well and dropped by over 70% after Christmas when advertisers pay less for their ads since there is less competition. I don't want to discuss numbers here on youtube though.

Hej Simeon, I heard that windfalls should not be used for beams or boards as their integrity is supposedly not very good. Have you heard anything about that or have someone just told me BS? Cheers, John
@horatio71

well if it is (visibly) split then of course it pretty obvious, but I was told that sawmills avoid taking windfall. but again that could just be wrong information I was given.

Hi there. I have never heard of that. I couldn't imagine that the sawmills didn't mill lumber after the storm Gudrun for example. My dad says that quality control is made after milling. But I don't know for sure.

Have been contemplating cutting cedar logs to redo our deck but do not have access to tractor or other heavy equipment. Wondering how well the trailer works with the winch to load logs.

Why do some chainsaws cost over $1,000?
@Urbicide
@Urbicide 7 лет назад
Those are the larger CC professional grade chain saws. They are built for commercial use & can take the longer bar & chain combinations that are sometimes required. They have a lot more grunt than the typical homeowner saw would ever possibly hope to have. They are also designed to be more readily serviced if required, so that there is minimal down time. Most homeowner saws use a "clamshell" style engine, which is much cheaper to produce initially, but more labor intensive to repair. A pro saw has a 2-piece crankcase with a separate cylinder which can be repaired much more easily since the saw does not need to be taken down to a hundred separate small parts.
