I still have my stash of Egoiste from the 1990s. Bought 20 bottles from a store that was going out of business in New York City. I remember paying $20 for each. I thought I was crazy when I got home realizing I spent $400. Now I am looking back and realize it was the best buy I ever made. I have always kept them in my freezer door in their boxes. Lately, my sister has been eyeing them to sell on ebay for a lot of money since they still smell the same, having never been exposed to heat or light. I watch her like a hawk when she is near my refrigerator. When I do use one bottle, I get compliments galore. I heard the formula changed and was curious so I took my bottle to Saks Fifth Avenue to the Chanel counter to compare smells. When they realized I had an original from the 90s, all the salespeople had to have a whiff and they confirmed that indeed the scent has changed and not for the better. I explained to them how I store all my bottles and they agreed it was the best method. I also said that my uncle, who worked in the perfume industry in France, gave me another tip if you have a pour bottle, which I had. Since oxygen is a killer, to keep the level of the liquid up to the top, put in the tiny gravel that is used in fish tanks to settle in the bottom as you use up the fragrance. This will bring up the liquid to the top and eliminate the air in the bottle. I have been using that method for over 30 years along with keeping my bottles in total darkness ( I wrap them up in aluminum foil once I take them out of the box) and keep them in the freezer.
Wow, what a great tip that you are sharing with us. Question: Do you keep them in the freezer or in the refrigerator? Also what is the temperature set at? Thanks.
Love reviewers that bring up fragrances like these that are forgotten between all new releases. Thank you so much for your dedication to our community.
excellent fragrance, this and Antaeus, i dont know why i never bought them, wonderful review.i loved the background music...so perfect :) one of the best reviewers we have around ....love your work :)
Hey Joy, even though i am not posting regularly anymore (a bit jaded), i will do stuff i am passionate about and it is always important to me that people like you appreciate it. Much love.
i was wondering why not as regular posts like before...you know i wait for your content as you do different type of fragrances which i find very interesting, ill definitely be buying this one at some point.older chanels are really unique and creative.i wish we had more winter than summer to enjoy these beauties :) i hope life is treating you good my brother :)
I have Egoiste, and I very much like it. I really wish I could wear it more often in a real autumn setting, when I lived in Wyoming or back east. It would just fit perfectly with many cozy situations. My most favorite Chanel, by far, has been Pour Monsieur, my biggest signature of my life.
I have not tried Egoiste, but It is now on my radar. It does sound like a very nice fragrance. I am actually pleased to hear that cinnamon is not so pronounced. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it. It does have its place just not up front (for the most part). Thanks Pep for a great review.
I used it at the time it came out. It leaked in my luggage 🧳 and every time I would open it that gorgeous scent would take over the room. Loved it. It brings me back memories of being a flight attendant 👨✈️ 👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I haven't sampled Egosite yet, but I am very much interested in it. I know where to get a 2010 bottle . Oh, if you get the chance , please try Polo Green vintage. It's very nice. I like it . Great review Pep
One of the best fragances i´ve tried lately,as a matter of fact,I'm going to buy a bottle as soon as possible....and I certainly can smell the cinnamon and although it isn't marked as one of its components,I get some leathery scent on the dry down.Perfect scent in my humble opinion.Great review by the way!!
Excellent review as always, Pep! I first tried this early on in my journey and thought it was different, maybe even a bit weird. Regardless, I wore through the sample and upgraded to a 10ml decant a couple years later. Now that I’m on the last few sprays of the decant, my wife graciously gifted me a full bottle for our anniversary (she also enjoys the scent quite a bit)! It’s now one of my absolute favorites for the cooler weather. Just love the woods and florals, and especially the sweet and spicy coca-cola vibe as it dries down. Truly a masterpiece on the skin, and one that rewards the wearer throughout the day.
Believe it or not, l first smelled this cologne, while stationed in Japan back in ‘95. I wore it out! The ladies loved it too! Oh, I also love Armani Aqua Di.
I stumbled upon a sample recently and I am in love! I haven’t been this excited about a fragrance in awhile. This stuff is so amazing. I’ve got a bottle on the way and review forthcoming.
@FST0p for reference, my bottle is 2015, I really don't know what current is like, but earlier this year I sniffed it in a store, and it smelled the same to ms
Aahh Égoïst..my first my favourite. Mine is bit darker though but I should mention I bought it in '92. Bought the edt and the après rasage, both 125ml. Lasted me a long time and as I wanted to get new ones.. it was different and from what I heard changed even more. What a loss!! Anyone reads this and has the vintage bottle's but doesn't care for them..react here and I'll get back to you. 👍🏻Greetings from Netherland✌🏻
I just smelled Egoiste. In my opinion, it has a feminine scent over the Platinum Egoiste. Be honest, it smells exactly like Calvin Klein Obsession for women. It could be a clone for Obsession.
Great review man! I absolutely love egoist I just did a first impressions of it last week along with a few others if you wanna check my channel out. If you are interested in similar fragrances English laundry windsor has a similar vibe to it but I like egoist alot more from first sniff and I will definitely be getting a bottle! Keep up the good work!
