IG: @acsmellsgood Mail: acsmellsgood@gmail.com here is a detailed review of one of the most celebrated chanel fragrances for men, Enjoy! Where to buy: amzn.to/2NwhrYy
I still have my stash of Egoiste from the 1990s. Bought 20 bottles from a store that was going out of business in New York City. I remember paying $20 for each. I thought I was crazy when I got home realizing I spent $400. Now I am looking back and realize it was the best buy I ever made. I have always kept them in my freezer door in their boxes. Lately, my sister has been eyeing them to sell on ebay for a lot of money since they still smell the same, having never been exposed to heat or light. I watch her like a hawk when she is near my refrigerator. When I do use one bottle, I get compliments galore. I heard the formula changed and was curious so I took my bottle to Saks Fifth Avenue to the Chanel counter to compare smells. When they realized I had an original from the 90s, all the salespeople had to have a whiff and they confirmed that indeed the scent has changed and not for the better. I explained to them how I store all my bottles and they agreed it was the best method. I also said that my uncle, who worked in the perfume industry in France, gave me another tip if you have a pour bottle, which I had. Since oxygen is a killer, to keep the level of the liquid up to the top, put in the tiny gravel that is used in fish tanks to settle in the bottom as you use up the fragrance. This will bring up the liquid to the top and eliminate the air in the bottle. I have been using that method for over 30 years along with keeping my bottles in total darkness ( I wrap them up in aluminum foil once I take them out of the box) and keep them in the freezer.
Listening to your videos is one thing, but when I received my égoïste bottle (and many others) and followed along with your review to understand the scent, is just another level. Thank You
I just bought it! wow, this indeed smells like old mahogany furniture. I'm glad the projection is lacking as such scent profile is very challenging for people around me who are not into fragrances. Amazing scent.
Fellaaas! Nicely done. Wore this, Pour Monsieur and Antaeus back in the day...still in the rotation! For some reason I always get a smoky note/accord in this classic.
My mother bought me a bottle of Egoiste in 1993, I was 18 yrso and I remember the sweet smelling of sour- sweet candies....girls were in love with this fragrance from heaven.... great review ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Loved it to bits, an absolute class in a bottle. As you always say “THIS KIND OF PERFUMERY IS DEAD AND BURIED” Despite I’m in early 30’s I can’t stand any of the modern sweet frags. This is a LEGACY...Even if people don’t like it, they should buy at least to show the next gen what perfumery was in olden days.....👌👌👌👌👌
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews I adore it sir.... I was wondering you hardly speak about ANTAEUS though. Is there any specific reason or is it coz u love Guerlain’s DERBY (which I’m quite sure) MAY I KNOW SIR?
Hello my friend 😊 I've been 'addicted' to Trumpers sandalwood for close to 10 years now. All-though I add new ones to my collection rather frequently, I always have Trumpers as a secure choice for many occasions. I also, have said to myself I don't need the Chanel Egoiste - However, sir - You have convinced me, and I tried it at the shop - it is not the same, and a lovely fragrance it is, indeed. I love them both and can certainly say that I will use them both 👌🏼 All the best and a big Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰👍🏼
AC! Hello my friend! I love your stories as much as I do your reviews. Chanel Égoïste is wonderful. Such a classy fragrance. Don't know when Chanel will come out with a new fragrance but I wait in anxious anticipation. Nice flowers! Ciao!
I'm on this one to offer prompt thanks for the review. My modern Egoiste is my fav coldest weather office / daytime casual frag - in part owing to the modest performance you describe. Great review treatment to a Chanel with lots of quality Chanel-ness. That G F Trumper is on my sniff list along with Paisley. Respect for quality review content.
Love at first sniff in a mall shop last year, ordered a 100ml bottle tonight based on your review backing up it's classy reputation....just beautiful. I couldn't stop smelling the test strip
The classiest reviewer reviews one of the most opulent fragrances. Been waiting on this review for a while! Thank you sir! Would love to get your take on Frederick Malle Musc Ravageur
Thank you Marcus, very kind of you. I am delighted you find this useful. I have reviewed Musc Ravageur, but in case you are keen to keen to get Musc Ravageur, I suggest you also test Guerlain Shalimar, which its highly inspired by.
Love it mate, so elegant yet masculine .Bought this and Platinum a few weeks ago. Own more bottles from this house than any other. Appreciate how much description you manage to squeeze from an analysis of a fragrance. - I’m reading ‘ The secret of Chanel No 5 ‘ by Mazzeo, it’s very interesting and well worth a read. Well done pal.
#1 favourite Chanel for me. With today's flanker trend running the game, I can't see that ever changing. Totally understand the old wooden cabinet vibe too. I used to fiddle around with modifying acoustic guitar bodies and it somehow reminds me of the smell you get when you stick your nose into the sound hole of a freshly minted guitar. Don't know why, but I'm guessing it's the rosewood from the fretboard combining with the dustiness of the interior. Another great review AC.
Wow truly surprised mate. BTW how did you manage to get it in Canada, I understand its not sold there, only Platinum Egoiste. Your point on the Guitar bodies is spot on, could be rose wood.
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews Got it in a trade in 2011. Had to give up a vintage Boss No.6 for it, but I still think I came out on top. Think you're right - I've never seen it here in stores.
Fab...I was put off after trying platinum egoiste which was too mettalic to my taste... this one sounds so different.. definitely need to check out..Cheers 😊 😊
I'm obsessed with vintage Egoiste at the moment! It evokes both sensuality and spirituality to my nose. I love it. The sandalwood is outstanding. I found the newer formulation drier and brisk and lacking a certain warmth though.
As a woman, I love to wear this. It's just so good. Has anyone ever smelled Le Labo Rose 31? It's been a while since I sampled it, but I think they are in the same family. What do you guys think?
Sir your reviews on perfumes are excellent. Really appreciate. After seeing your review I really put money on buying a Chanel perfume (men perfume). Can you pls suggest me which is the best Chanel perfume which I can put my money on? (specially for dating purpose 😃) And from where I get an original Chanel perfumes because I heard there are duplicates. Guide me pls.
I would buy it directly from Chanel online and if you are looking for a date night scent I would highly recommend Allure homme Sport eau Extreme or Bleu de Chanel Parfum, both of which I have reviewed.
My favourite man's fragrance at the moment is guerlain vetiver. My fave man fragrance of all time is kouros. What are your thoughts on kouros AC? It is an absolute stunning fragrance with the civet and honey.
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews how is that possible ac?? 😉 Imo you must run right now! To the store, and spray some Kouros. Granted, It will be the current formulation, but still..
Theres a lot of made up rumors with Egoiste but truth is Chanel was after Calvin Kleins Obsessions massive success. Later again Calvin Klein scored another massive success with Eternity and Chanel once again tried the same with Platinum Egoiste yet did not achieve the mainstream success they wanted. Theres a lot of stories and rumors behind Egoiste and its background. I have owned all versions including Bois Noir. To me personally the only true and much better composed Egoiste is Spicebomb created by Olivier Polge which Im sure him and his Dad had Egoiste in mind but they finally perfected the recipe. Another great composition in the same territory is the original one million. Theres many niche houses selling “ sandalwood “ dominant fragrances in the $500-700 range yet they dont have the talent to blend perfumery right. Its not always the ultra expensive ingredients what creates a masterpiece thats pure marketing hype. Its the talent behind the perfumier.
I couldn't agree more , its the talent of the perfumer that makes a great fragrance. Look at Youth Dew by Este Lauder, it costs nothing and yet it has the feel of a complex niche fragrance.
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews got it yesterday and I love it.it opens spicier that I thought it would but the dry down had a creaminess to it I really like
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews If you even decide to visit Croatia on holidays, it would be a pleasure to treat you with Rakija. :) Love your channel. :)
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews Good to know!! I checked the notes breakdown and saw some similarities. I may get this one in the future. Thank you for your review sir!
They dont really sell this in Canada chanel only sells platinum up here unfortunately. I still really want this tho I have bois des iles and geo f trumper sandalwood they are both magnificent. Thanks for the review 🙏
@@SmellsGoodfragrancereviews well not from chanel anyway, I could try ebay not a fan of doing that tho 🤷♂️ trust issues lol. Chanels distribution is strange with that one and not sure why.
