Thanks for the exposure on this. I bought it for spring and it is now my favorite Chanel for dates and a fancy bar. I will use this one all year round so spicy and sweet on my skin ladies love it.
One of the first ever designer fragrances I’ve tried. Fell in love with it straight away! The main problem is availability with this one.. Had to settle for Eau Sauvage & 1 Million for a while until I finally spotted a few boxes of Egoiste in Riyadh airport. Hands down one of the best fragrances ever created!! Even when I’m having a bad day, a whiff of this puts a smile on my face . ..
Great review of this beautiful, classy fragrance. My favourite scent from Chanel. Im from Ireland and been searching everywhere for a vintage bottle of this amazing fragrance. Did you get yours in the UK? Ive only found vintage on ebay.
This is probably in my top three fragrances of all time including all designer and all niche. I have an old l'Egoiste bottle that is about two-thirds empty now . This has the unique quality of not going stale or old even after 30 years. Still smells delicious and that Sandalwood note is still smooth and syrupy ... I love it
Nice review ! I have the newest version which has a nice warm and classy aura. Definitely a mature fragrance which has great longevity. Great for the cooler/colder months . . . A timeless classic which is not offensive, but will still get you noticed and garner compliments. :)
Hi MrSmelly, what Facebook groups are you part of? Aside from looking on Basenotes I've found it difficult finding good UK Facebook groups for purchasing splits.
I like this one.. It has a nice scent to it. . It still does have an old school vibe about it, maybe not as much as Antaeus ... But its there. Just like you said. Very good review and descriptions.. That kind of wood they use in here gives it that niche smell to me. I like it, Id probably wear it with a suit and tie or something very serious and formal.. But most likely I wouldn't pick up a bottle of this because it still leans more to an old school dated fragrance than modern. But i still like it! Especially as it dries down.. the more it dries down on me the more it smells more modern. Id say this is a clean, semi sweet, spicy woody floral .. and for some reason I get a tad of an oakmoss vibe in here as well.
Hahaha, Captain Scentsible's "review" made my day :-) Great video, I can't remember what this smells like, will see if I can get another sniff when I'm at the store.
Thanks for the review. Coincidentally, I received this yesterday. Glad you mentioned the animalic note because I do get that and thought I might have a dud! I agree you have to be in the mood to wear this but I have bought it for when suited up in Autumn/Winter. Vote for Terre D'Hermes.
the best sent i ever smelled.......it s dominant in the opening, bitter sweet woody aromatic, and the rose.......wow......works best in windy cold weather....simply a masterpiece
Captain loves Gina Lolobrigida lol. I also have the Egoiste, a nearly full bottle, i dont know whether to keep or sell!!! It's a reformulated version with a prominent sandalwood vibe. Like Dan said its hard to find the right occasion to wear it.
I can't express enough how much Geo F. Trumper's Sandalwood must be experienced if you like Chanel Egoiste. I love Egoiste and was overjoyed at the Trumper Sandalwood. I immediately bought two bottles after trying it. Those in the know, KNOW. Criminally underreviewed and as impressive a dupe/alternate as anything out there. Great performance and maybe arguably better than current Egoiste formulation. Please try it and let me know.
very similar vibe got Versace "The dreamer". they two are extremely crazy, unique and very warm. I love both, but vearing most just in home. definetly not for every one.
Got mine, yesterday along with Antaeus, Allure Homme and Le Lion! 🇺🇸♥️🎄♥️🇺🇸 By the way, both friends who received Gravitas Pour Homme, as gifts from me, really like it.
MrSmelly1997 would you mind sending me your details for me to send you the aftershave samples? can I also request you to review the narciso rodriguez Blue Noir aftershave ?
I still have the original egoist cologne concentrate splash bottle 100 ml which I bought in the early 1990s. I loved it so much that I bought 15 bottles when a perfume store was closing in NYC. I think I paid about $20 per bottle. I stored them in my freezer unopened in their original plastic wrapped bottles. The smell has not changed after all these years. When I use a bottle, I wrap it in aluminum foil to keep the light out and keep it in the refrigerator. I still have 6 bottles left untouched. I had no idea that this fragrance would be so sought after. I wear it all the time in the Fall and Winter. A little dab on the wrists and it lasts most of the day. I get quite a few compliments in the NYC subway where I am squeezed like a sardine. I have smelled the newer version and I can say I prefer my original. I even had a crazed fan of the fragrance offer me $500 for a bottle. I gave one to him since he was in love with it as much as I am. I did not want payment. I knew he truly appreciated it when I saw it in his refrigerator wrapped in aluminum foil just like mine. The only difference is that I am a female and the scent is just as good on either sex. I am not sure of the reformulated one.
Projection... reach me on X-hamster LOL!!! I had this back in the day and loved it. You owe it to yourself to try Geo. F. Trumper Sandalwood which is very close to this classic. Perfect review by the way. Vote for Yves Rocher's Cuir Vetiver... it is going to get up the table one day!!!
Easily one of the greatest Chanel creations ever... If you find a vintage bottle (there are several renditions, including the elusive 'cologne concentrée') but basically just look for the EDT label ABOVE the CHANEL name on the bottle... A vintage version of the bottles sold in UK were actually called L'Égoïste with an L' whereas none sold in the states or even France said that.. I honestly can't say I notice a BIG difference between the vintage bottles and the ones from the EARLY 2000s, but the NEWEST release with the new shorter bottle does NOT smell as nice... One note you didn't mention that I feel is very prevalent is CARNATION... Does anyone else get that scent?
Now following on XHamster!!!! 😂😂😂 Maybe we can dedicate a future review to finding fragrances that are appealing to those benevolent Japanese step-moms... Lmao!!!
I like the Platinum version better than the original Égoïste. The different spices in it don't quite add up to harmony, rather smells like kitchen spices mixed up accidently and coriander gone beserk.
Watch these just for your sense of humour (find me on Xhamster LOL), nice one Dan. Your review is on point also, do you have Facebook page too - I could not find you. Lee
I just smelled this fragrance. In my opinion, it has a feminine scent over the Platinum Egoiste. Be honest, it smells exactly like Calvin Klein Obsession for women. It could be a clone for Obsession.
I somehow accidently clicked on this video, but since im here, i guess il see what all the buzz is about. I guess... lol, you should consider my view, only half a view because im half paying attention.. well maybe 2/3 of a view because i did leave a comment, or does that count into the equasion, hmmm il have to research this topic.. for now give it a precise .6 of a view. :)
Bois des Îles is definitely the classy mature brother of Egoiste. Much more refined and precious. I like Egoiste; I am not sure it is smooth enough to be used at work as well. I think the Platinum version would be more suitable for that environment. Francesco
