This is a review series on using the compact ELAC SUB1010-BK powered subwoofer with Vacuum Tube Amplifiers. I do feel like many of the small tube amps, especially some of the China products with small output transformers, struggle with having strong bass.
Adding an inexpensive powered sub may be a great solution, instead of spending $$$$ on bigger transformers, larger speakers etc. It likely will help these small DIY speakers I am building too!

Thank you for the review plan on using it on a Onkyo Intergrated Amp and I will connect to to speaker B on the Amp : Update mine's arrived today and wow I'm really surprised how well it sounds thank you for sharing your information. mines arrived a few weeks ago and it is a amazing 10 inch subwoofer again thanks for the review.

Right you are. My old Monitor Audio active sub high level connected to the loudspeaker output of my little SET amp. This gives less “theater” low extension then when connected to line level, but gives a much more natural sounding integration with the main speakers.

I have 2 of those. I use the line leave hookup. They work great for me.

Nice choice. I have one I use with my Elac Debut B6s. Definitely fills out the low end. Though, the original B6s are pretty good on their own up to a point. In any case. Great sub for the price. You can't go wrong for 129 or less. I believe I got mine on sale for $115 or less.

For the money it is very decent but buy the warranty- you will need it. Just for pure tone however, can't really compete with a nice Rythmik sub like the F12 (music) or one of their ported versions if movies is your thing. Ultimately you get what you pay for. The REL 1205 is a steal right now for $449 at Best Buy. I bought one- and the 4yr. warranty too.

Subwoofers with high-level inputs have another advantage: they're getting the signal in perfect sync with the main speakers. I can't agree with placing it far away from the mains for that reason.

Have no idea on placement yet, lots of experimenting to do! I do know I don't want it near the turntable. I'm not sure minor "sync" or time delay would be an issue with sub-bass, especially if they speakers are all about the same distance from the listener. I've setup PA systems and understand time delay problems with multiple speaker locations.

It sounds fantastic. I have it paired with some Klipsch R-51m speakers and the setup sounds WAY better than it has any right to given the cost.

A very wide variety, from Pink Floyd DSOTM, to Piano solos, to both smooth and classic jazz, to the B52's. About the only thing I don't listen to is heavy metal, just never got into that. Elton John: Madman across the Water is one of my test albums.
