Me: here expecting to see a normal speedrun. What I Got: In depth explanation of a glitch and then a commentary of the philosophy of speedrunning. I enjoyed this video.
I know in modern speedruning using glitches and stuff is allowed but i dunno, for me it just feels so lame that guy skips 99.9% of the game by teleporting and reloading game and calls it a win, like where is skill in this?
I really like that you explain your thoughts on the warp glitch and why it might be occurring. It will be interesting to see how this speed-run evolves with decisions from mods and future patches.
It reminds me of Saints Row 4 where it seemed impossible to escape the mother ship, until I saw a hint that for some fucking reason, game time was tied to frames. What you needed was consistency. If you dropped from 60 to 50 then the door would close and you'd die. The answer was to downgrade resolution so that it would run 60 the entire scene. Ironically, some of the worst ER performance is on $1k cards, so elite gamers are having a mental block pinpointing it.
It won't evolve at all atm. They are already staying on a previous patch instead of trying to find another way which makes this speedrun way less impressive. It's mostly just fast menu clicks, Sekiro runs were way more fun to watch.
I appreciate you showing how broken the zips are And then proceed to talk about how they need to make it its own category because it's just going to ruin the any percent Because honestly watching a glitch A glitchless any percent where they fight every required boss Is way more entertaining than watching someone teleport around to the final boss even if its slower
@@hookedonphones1681 wrong, some bugs might be banned from the official leaderboards, even in any%. Zip-Glitch might be one of them, since it seems to be dependent on Hardware.
@@NYC_Goody Dude, if I could have spent more time on my first playthrough I would have. I realized I missed a number of Talismans and dungeons, I was just so excited to see what the fiinal boss was and accidentally pressed "yes" when asked to start Journey 2 lmao
@@jaredramey1295 I did explore a good chunk, but I know I still missed a large chunk. So many random corners that have new areas and items. I also died a good chunk lol
The way you explain the zip glitch and it feeling like an inconsistent timing issue makes lot of sense actually, I've noticed when I am spam casting glintstone spells that occasionally I will have a spell or two feel faster and then one cast will have a brief hiccup happen (best way I can explain it) and the current cast completes abruptly and I go into the next cast. It's as if something in the background of the game is keeping the timing (like you mention), but instead of a consistent whole number there is a few decimals of time being added until it overflows and then time suddenly gets reset back to the base amount, likely from some built in safeguard time reset to prevent it from constantly faster forever.
What I have is a great stuttering. The game feels great, but suddenly, it gets to 5 fake fps for about a sencond (fake because the game is still runing at its normal pace) and then, suddenly, the game shows all the frames at high speed up to the actual frame, and consistently it does three times in a row, with about 10 seconds between each time. And after that, I can be playing half an hour or an hour without anymore stuttering.
About the silicon lottery thing he mentioned, I agree to an extent. I have two pcs, when the game first came out. The specs of my pcs were a i5-6600k and gtx 1060 and an i5-8600k with a rtx 2070 s respectively. Game ran at 35-45 fps on both pcs nomatter what graphic settings I had, took the cpu of my best pc and put it in my worst pc, and bought an i5-12400 for my best pc and now the game runs 60fps on both pcs, lower end pc I can run medium-high max fps at 1080p, higher end I can run any graphics up to 1440p max fps. Some of my friends have higher end cpus and amd 5000 series as well as rtx 30 series cards and dont get the same performance as me, so while I agree its a silicon lottery I also came to realize that the game is very cpu heavy - IF your cpu is already struggling a bit its like it gets a higher workload as well. If it isnt well, youre good to go. My cpus went from 100% usage playing Elden Ring to around 50-70%.
@@rawviz You know, commenting in a comment section is something we socialized people do because we are interested in hearing what other people have to say. I personally like to give my own experience not because someone asked, but because I can and I want to contribute to something. Maybe you should try contributing, to something.. at all.. instead of just posting these downright retarded comments. I'm sure your parents didn't ask for you in particular, but here we are.
@@SirCatsal0t I for one appreciate you giving a heads up. B/c I was curious about this "issue" of the game as well. (Cause I find it strange as all get out, on how the game has been performing all over the board on PC & the consoles, it doesn't make sense, well it does now kind of, except for how the game can run better on the ps4 pro than the ps5 some how? that one still befuddles me...)
@@MRSketch09 Although the ps4 and ps5 are consoles, theyre still technically pcs, just with a different operating system, my best guess for as to why a ps4 pro might perform better than a ps5 is still that it to some extent is a silicon lottery regarding the performance of the cpu.
I quickly realized how cpu heavy elden ring considering i have a 1080ti + 16gb ram. But my CPU isn't the best and i could see in task manager now my cpu was at 100% usage. So i constantly got like 30-50fps
Imagine not hearing about this dude at all and out of nowhere your city is ash and he’s freezing you to death within 30 minutes of you chill Saturday afternoon of being an elden beast
never done any speedrunning myself but love watching them. I couldn't understand half the shit you talked about but this was still fun to watch. very impressive
Yeah well once haze blade wakes up dist will somehow have broke it until haze does the samething and so on. It will last forever until it becomes crazy optimized and wr runs are much harder.
@@RobeusBellereffect 1.02 was just bug fixes and shit. They didn't nerf things until 1.03. Which they nerved hoarfrost stomp and I believe royal nights resolve.
Elden ring developers should put all mini bosses guarding the eldtree at catacombs to be summoned at final boss for anyone trying to skip over exploration and or progression
@Hazeblade - you can definitely cut more time in the Radagon boss fight. You can make use of the glitch where you run up to him before he turns. It freezes him in a position so you can keep attacking him (as long as its spells and encantations) without needing to dodge.
@@aeternis7680 It definitely is still in 1.03. Its really not a complex mechanic either as it doesnt change anything that is being done in the speedrun before.
@@hhh2hbk4dx It is much slower and weaker, they nerved it down almost 30% and the proc doesn't regularly proc like in patch 1.02... It has been tested. So it changed a lot...There is a reason why the speedrunning community have not used the 1.03 version... Yeah, it still does the same, kinda but it is not a viable strat, in speedruns, for casual players perhaps but not for speedrunning...
Amazing job. Time will probably double now in 1.03 since you won't be able to kill any boss that fast due to the stomp and RKR's nerfs. Edit: forgot there's still the shield + bell exploit
@@ootersbooters Will depend on if the speedrun community for Elden Ring chooses to run the new patch. Community as a whole may remain on the old patch. Still very much early days so we'll see what happens. Most Dark Souls any% runners run the game on the fastest patch available though.
You can’t complain about how the game interacts with “zipping” when its a bug in the game. Of course the game is not going to react the way you want it to react specifically when referring to the “nature” of the game. Taking advantage of glitches is never part of the nature of any game.
I don't think you should ban any strategy under any% as long as it doesnt require any external tools tbh, there is no rule that says any% needs to be the most popular run, it could be the no zips category if the community finds that more fun
The Speedrun time is amazing congrats, would be sick to see some faster or on par runs with some different setups though that frost hatchet spam is getting kind of old would be nice to see some more variety.
@@realoliverkhan yeah the current strats are dead but I like to see people adapt and make different records nut then again any% is kinda boring in this game anyway
Distortion said he is done running this version since the zipping has broken the game. He got the zip at a good time and was happy with it. He also doesn’t believe in using macros like what is being used here to get the zip more consistently, so it is highly unlikely he would beat it, since it isn’t a pure way of playing the game.
You literally stop the timer on every loading screen… that alone invalidates your run as theres abundant fuckery that can happen. Yeah after hitting 14:45 in the video I cant watch this shit with you constantly stopping the timer
@@tulip2588 Royal Knight's Resolve doesn't apply to any weapon other than the one you cast it on, so they can't get the 80% damage bonus to the Hoarfrost stomp post-patch.
It's very new, so the understanding around it is basically nothing, but it also is based around hardware in some way. Like you said, the rhythm is important too, and perhaps the surface one stands on matters too? People right now just don't understand it and it seems to be extremely luck based, so it's frowned upon.
Agree with the gamble man, I run a 2070S and a R5 3600 and I get a smooth 60fps with this game. But I've read where other people running the same hardware are all over the place. It's crazy.
When doing speed runs like this. And they patch something like dmg of skills, or you can't take the same route anymore. Or the make fall dmg changes so u can jump for heights. Will this still be a legit speed run or will the time be taken away?
I spent a solid hour clearing Volcano Manner this afternoon and he rips through it in under 5 minutes. I"m officially terrible :) Also, that was pretty dope to watch
i think it leads to moments like the Gywn toss up, like the goal of speed running is also the pizzazz and style in which its completed, that drip drip drip mah drip. It can be funny to see people say shit again like "Fuck...I gotta do the gywn coin toss"
"Lemme get this WR and have the mods ban anyone from trying to get a better record than me." Is all I heard this entire video... please correct me if I'm wrong... but why would you get to decide what is recordable and what is not?
13:25 Yeah when I first saw footage of the zip I figured with time people would just route zips and skip most the actual gameplay. Now knowing about how it works a little more I can see why it trivializes the category and I gotta agree.
watching this just to see the current wr when I have been completely in the dark for the speedrunning situation in this game because I hadn't beat it yet...25 minute long TED talk about the philosophy of speedrunning xD
So can you not save quit for elevators? Bc ik if u call an elevator and save quit it will be either up or down from where it was so when u ride it coudnt u save time?
