I always thought that Mohg's chant was epic so I decided to try and get the full countdown and chant all at once for y'all No I don't use Azur Comet regularly
@@KhoaLe-uc2ny yeah it’s potato potato pretty much, latin = nothing & greek = zero. It’s interchangeable & results in the same concept which is genius.
@@powerfoldzero6384 formless mother = mother of truth. its an epithet. look it up, mother of truth elden ring and its first to come out, she's more known to the name formless mother im aware
I know Mogh is speaking in Latin here, but as soon as I saw Tres I immediatley thought Mogh was speaking spanish, and now I somehow can't get it out of my head that Mogh just speaks Spanish and for some reason that's hilarious to me.
man im spanish and when i heard tres i freak out i though the fcking boss have a countdown and then i was like wait did he say tres or tres with something more? then he said duo and then i freak out again he IS counting!
This boss is so fucking metal, I absolutely love him, one of the best in the whole game. Most bosses transition to second phase in a deperate attempt to stop you, but this badass spends the entirety of phase 1 just counting down to your inevitable doom, when the real fight begins.
It's actually probably closer to "Zero", seeing as "Tres Duo Unus" translates to "Three Two One" in Latin. He's literally just saying Three! Two! One! Zero! Zero! Zero!
There was no word in Latin for zero, nihil simply means nothing. Admittedly it is the closest thing they could use (as I believe either nihil or nulla was used to indicate calculations whose result was zero) but zero would have been a better choice. In any case From uses some fake Latin, so it doesn't matter much
@@wsm1227 I still think "nihil" is a better choice because of the many ways it can be interpreted in this context. It can be seen as a spell chant by going "tres, duo, unus, nihil" or as a mockery or taunt with its literal meaning of "nothing." Which in itself can be interpreted in multiple ways. He could be saying that you did no damage to him as he basically heals to full health, he could be mocking you by calling you insignificant, or perhaps he's doing both by saying that all of your efforts are futile.
Somewhat cool fact: there wasn’t a concept or a word for “zero” in the Latin language, so the next closest thing is the word “nihil,” which means “nothing”
The funny thing is he was supposed to count down from 6 originally and his voice actor even did the recording. Just imagine fighting him and after a few hits Mohg just suddenly goes "SEX".
First few attempts at this boss, I summoned other people to help, and usually died in phase 2. Thought I'd try it solo once I got a hang of his phase 1 attacks, and ended up killing him before he finished the nihil chant. Way easier to solo this boss.
I summoned some dude with a scythe who just helicoptered him to death in about ten seconds. I was getting my shit pushed in before that but damn, that felt too easy
When i played it i was surprised why the numerals he counts sound weirdly indo European especially the 4 which sounds like "kʷetwor" Then i realize he ACTUALLY speaks Latin which just confused me more cause i am pretty sure Latin is not a actual language in Elden Ring lore.
he speaking Latin He first says Tres which, well, obviously means “three” and then he says Duo which obviously means “two” then he says Unus which, given the last two, means “one”. Nihil means “nothing” or “absence” or “devoid” so…? ok buddy
don't let this distract you from the fact miquilla has this kind power of attraction to him, besides that's not reason he wants miquilla. Miquilla is an empyrean and a vulnerable one at that. So it easy for mogh to use him as his path towards lordship and giving the formless mother ( God he worships ) reign over the lands between.
@@Hugo-MTX96 those who are just using someone don't cuddle up on their arm while the one who is being used is asleep, as Mohg does in the pre-fight cutscene. They do not call them with an affectionate voice "Dearest". And they don't want to fuсking share a bedchamber with them.
I really wish they dropped the tone of his voice. Not in a cliche or predictable way that mimics the standard “deep scary big guy” tropes- more like a very deep, droning, hum that makes your controller shake when he talks. He looks like his voice should make your chest thump. I dunno, just my two cents. The actual voice isn’t bad but its definitely the main reason his whole “welcome to the birthplace of our dynasty!” Intro thing didn’t feel as powerful as it should to me.
For this clip specifically I used the Cerulean Hidden Tear for the FP Drain Negation and the Purifying Crystal Tear to negate the damage from the Nihil Chant
I'll never forget the first time I fought the Lord of Blood. I was doing amazing, avoiding almost all of his attacks, having not seen them yet. "Tres." The realization that Mohg sees himself above all becomes painstakingly clear. Their Latin influence of gods and heroes rings in my ears. The panic sets in, knowing that whatever comes next was both going to be bloody and beautiful. "Duo." You realize you're a little excited for him to give his all, despite what disasters it likely means for you. You know the ritual about to take place revolves around you as an effigy. "Unus!" Your anticipation peaking, a bead of sweat will fall as you realize this must be the time to use the purifying tear. You know that this is both when the fight truly begins and abruptly will end. "NIHIL. NIHIL! NIHIIIIL!!!" ...The battlefield is covered in blood and flame, yours and your enemy's alike. You thought you were already as impressed as was possible, until you notice your heart rate higher than usual as you dodge blow after blow, until the bloodfire overwhelms and takes you to the Formless Mother. An undying need to try again until you emerge victorious rises in your chest. You refuse to summon anyone to ruin this theatric masterpiece. And walk off into the fog, yet again.
