@@doctorreed_ The Formless Mother only reveals itself to those who have accepted themselves and grants power to those who accept it. Out of all the outer gods, she's arguably the nicest one. Lmao.
I love how everyone was memeing before the DLC that the final boss would be Miquella on top of malenia like the twin princes from DS3 and it turns out they werent far off 😅
@@killadrill miquella this whole time wanted Radahn as his consort. Radahn, being the chad he is refused and resisted his charms. Thus Miquella gets jealous and does some 3d chess stuff to get him under his control.
@@killadrill to further open this up. Miquella fell in love with radahn because radahn was so kind. So the two made a marriage proposal that radahn later on changed his mind. Leading to some yandere stuff happening
@@sudanemamimikiki1527Later changed his mind because he got nuked and then basically reborn in Mohg's body after getting his body and mind rotted to mush
after finishing the dlc you understand that the only three beings in the lands between in control of their fate were Marika, Miquella and Ranni. All the others were simply pawns for their plans.
@@Jaden-Ringwell it's obvious that the relationship itself isn't romantic, overall it seems you don't even need to be romantically involved with someone to be a consort. It seems that being a consort only has romantic implications because of Marika and Godfrey (maybe Placidusax too, depending on his relationship with his consort) and that in reality anyone can be your consort as long as you as the god choose them.
@@Jaden-Ring This dlc shows that Miquella also had his own plan to ascend to godhood and he wanted Radahn's hand for marriage to start a new age. Radahn said no and Miquella wanted to shed the body to escape the curse. Miquella also sent Malenia since he may have taken it as an insult. Radahn may have said no because of the eternal childhood curse or just no in general since Consort means the spouse of the ruler. But it seems like he has tricked Mohg into impregnating him, charmed him inside the cocoon and then used Mohg's corpse to create Radahn. So the cocoon is now being used to give birth to Radahn who he then intends to have children with. Malenia could have been the consort if she could. But scarlet rot prevents that most likely and Radahn was also nuked by it. Miquella basically went fuck all that I'm going to create/give birth to my fancy prince myself. This way Miquella gets to possess Radahn (he appears that way; on top of Radahn holding him), have him by his side, have Radahn's children to establish a new dynasty and usher an age of compassion.
The lore actually makes radahn and malenia more tragic. Radahns half siblings had him and his territory decimated by rot only for him to be forced into being miquella's lord. Malenia is then abandoned while miquella takes his prize in the shadow lands. He's like marika and ranni using whomever they must for their ends. If miquella became the ruling god, he'd probably be very similar to marika except he'd have an easier time conquering people with bewitching and manipulation.
Malenia was on board with Miquella's plan, she's the one who whispered to Radahn about Miquella's plan. Radahn was also aware of Miquella's intentions for him.
@@Jaden-Ring in the game a vow between miquella and radahn is referred to a couple of times in freyja's dialogue and the final boss cutscenes. if the twins held up their end, radahn promised to be miquella's consort. so its implied that the caelid war was something radahn wanted first before becoming miquella's lord. also theres an item description suggesting radahn had to die to become the new lord in the shadow lands.
just as I thought, it would be a huge bait and switch with Messmer being a misunderstood hero and Miquella being a grand Griffith-esque manipulator. Still caught me off guard for some reason
@kolbra4170 Not a hero, but a broken dude who just deserved love. His mother turned him into a monster just to have revenge on the Hornsent (which makes sense considering what they did to her village), and he did *everything* she told him, even after she cast him away when he outlived his usefulness.
Not just that but Messmer was actually the more charismatic and likable person than Miquella in lore despite not having charm powers. Relanna and Gaius both are best friends with him and his Fire Knights discarded their nobility to be at his side
@@LagunaKramer that's not his doppelganger. It was a creature born from Miquella rejecting his kinder side, probably the part fated to help the lands between. It was basically like a divine body part that grew sentient.
@@MitridatedCarbon Yea I feel like this is a major part of Miquellas story. He discarded his capacity to feel love, yet he wants to start an age of Compassion. Kindly Miquella wants everyone to love him but He is unable to love them back. Like Ansbach said "there is nothing more terrifying"
@@Xenos369 it is worse than that. the incantation Light Of Miquella that you get from his fight says that it was created because one didn't respond to his compassion (probably the tarnished), and then continued that the new age only needs a god and a consort. I feel he was just gonna kill everyone who wouldn't join him, or even be ready to kill everyone in the lands between and leave only him and radhan.
Imagine someone listening to this knowing it's the final boss theme but not knowing that it's Radahn? The theme itself spoils the twist and I think that's really funny
kinda undecided. If Mohg was bewitched by Miquella into impregnating him, then yes Mohg is innocent. However, if it was just Miquella intending to be found and Mohg saw a chance to impregnate a sleeping Miquella (which Miquella wants him to do), then not so much. Because Mohg intention is still impregnation without consent but it was him who got bewitched at the end. Mohg then becomes a basis/foundation to create Radahn either way who Miquella intends to have children with. I think with his charm, Miquella definitely tricked Mohg. But it's also possible that Miquella knew about Mohg's intention (Mohg is born of omen aka traditional sex which is looked down upon because of Golden Order fundamentalism and he wants to bring back the good old seggs by doing seggs to usher a new age) so Miquella never needed to trick him in the first place and simply intended to be found. But Malenia says he was the most fearsome empyrean so I'm more leaning on the former possibility.
Mohg is a byproduct of everything that happen to him. Miquella was anger that Radahn never took his offer, so use Mohg hatred for the golden order for bewitch him.
Neither Radahn nor Mohg deserved what Miquella did to them. This fight is to stop Miquella's profane godhood and give Radahn and Mohg back their dignity.
@@TheEnergizingbunny you dont find the "secret secuence" with ST right?... Sorry, i dont want to say spoilers, but if you dont, look about It. There's one last secret in the shadowlands...
He died along with the actual Radahn when we killed him in the base game. What Miquella resurrected here was a puppet who had Mohg's dead body and Radahn's soul.
"So you've come, Tarnished. Do you truly intend to stand against the gods, or has felling every last one of my brethren done little to satiate your warrior's bloodlust? No matter, the title of Kings Consort has no interest to me, but if it means I can face you once more, not as a blind monster consumed by Rot, but as a warrior, then I'll bear this humiliation. Now come! Show me the power that surpasses even the Legendary Godfrey himself, Tarnished!
If there is one thing that I took from the DLC it's this: Miquella acts like he a selfless compassionate 'god-like' figure, but really, out of all the demigods, he is the most selfish swine imaginable.
I feel like he is one of the most morally grey characters in the game. I know he feels selfish, but all he does is to create a brand new order where everyone is an equal, even poor bastards like Albinaurics and Misbegotten. Miquella is pretty much _"The ends justify the means"_ made character, which is why I think he is so well-written.
I beat him using summoning both the old man and the mimic and using destined death, scarlet rot, black flame, defence talismans and a great shield They took away my pride as a player
@grenadesblows719 it took me as long as bayle (between 3-4 hours), and i spent a lot of time warming up for the DLC. Super challenging, no shame if someone doesn't wanna push through it without summons or cheese
I don't wanna be that guy but the dlc storyboard was made basically the same time as the base game. Fromsoft confirmed in an interview a while ago that the plot for the dlc were storyboards R.R Martin made for the game that they didn't know how to put into the base game or didn't have enough time to
I don't get why everyone wanted more Godwyn, I don't particularly remember Miquella and Godwyn having anything to do with each other, other than being siblings and the golden child. Besides! Godwyn is perma dead! He was killed by a fragment from Destined Death, the one thing that can permanently kill anything. Besides that, Godwyn fate is to be a being of death. As for Radahn, it makes more sense. We know they had a history even before the DLC, cause Maleina fought him and did battle with him. For reasons we thought were just for his Ruin, but in reality Miquella wanted him. And who wouldn't! Radahn was the most respectful and humble one there was, he fought and study gravitational arts for his horse, he at some point had a pet cat, took after his stepfather, fought for his closest siblings and fought to protect his own soldiers. Out of everyone, it makes sense why one would pick Radahn. He's similar to Godfrey, yet another powerful yet humble being.
Godwyn and Miquella did in fact have connections in the base game, more so than Radahn. The Golden Epitaph weapon states Miquella wanted to give Godwyn a true death. The statues in the Haligtree of Malenia and Miquella being comforted by an older figure? Yeah that figure is heavily implied if not outright stated, to be Godwyn. He took care of them in their youth when their own parents would not. Castle Sol also tells us about a ritual involving an eclipse Miquella tried to perform in order to restore one's soul. Who else could they be referring to if not Godwyn? On the other hand, there is no mention whatsoever in the base game of Miquella and Radahn having any sort of connection. The most we were given was the battle in Caelid between Radahn and Malenia, and that was up for speculation as well, some say they were fighting simply for control and power, others say Malenia was sent to kill Radahn to continue the movement of the stars and help Miquella's eclipse ritual. It just would've also been better (In my opinion at least) to fight Godwyn seeing as he and Miquella were the only two demigods we never interacted with or fought. Radahn's story already felt complete and we fought him already, so fighting him again in his supposed "prime" felt like fanservice and a cop out to try and make sense of the lore they added to Miquella's character and *that* in turn, feels rushed and wasted because there is so much that can/could have been done with Miquella as a character...and now sadly, we will never know...
It’s been days since 21 June release. I think my thoughts are solid. At the end of the day, Fromsoft is 10/10… because they give us save experiences that us fans love. The highlight of this DLC is Radahn/Miquella and Bayle. Basically Gael and Midir. Which are basically Ludwig and Laurence. Which are basically Artorias and Kalameet. Ok I’m stretching it out a bit. But seriously, Radahn Prime Phase 2 is basically a less cool Gael, the bless lasers are basically a new form of Gael’s Cape Dark Soul. And while I think many of us can see the similarities between Bayle and Midir… Bayle’s design somehow strikes me more as a re-design of the Demon’s Souls Dragon God and I find that SO COOL! I’m happy we got this. But do laugh that the highlights are the same as always for me. A knight and a dragon.
I admit, I absolutely *loathed* this fight from a gameplay point of view. But from a lore, aesthetic, and soundtrack standpoint, it is an absolute masterpiece.
I really don't like how Miquella was handled in the DLC. The whole teasers built up towards him being an active character, you would expect a questline for him like Ranni, but no, he gets 2 minutes of cutscenes and a fight that's hard for all the bad reasons (shitton of damage and a lot of health). I dont mind Radahn here, its cool and all, but Miquella is such a let down story wise. Fromsoft could have made that questline AND this fight too, by giving you a choice at the end to either side with him or not (like with Gherman), or if you have the frenzied flame on you to either have him cure it or not. I don't hate the bosses of the DLC, most of them are great, Radahn is just one boss I can't get behind yet, but I am willing to say it's partially because I'm biased towards the ending and lack of experience with the boss so far, but I highly doubt I will ever like the direction of the story.
Because Miquella is a villain who tricked her own brother to create/give birth to the another brother who rejected his hand for marriage. He then intends to have children with the brother he's giving birth to. (The cocoon is being used as euphemism for birth here)
Imo the main game and trailers were setting up miquella to have that omnipresent role as you and the followers followed his footsteps, i liked it personally
I kinda half-expected for Miquella to be painted a bit grey because in a grim worldbuilding like Elden Ring a character like him seemed way too good to be true, like there has to be a catch. Given his ability to compel loyalty and how he was called the most fearsome Empyrean, it has hinted a darker side to him from a while. I would had not minded Miquella revealing doing shady stuff because almost all demigods did questionable stuff at some point, what it made me flip the table was all that bullshit with Radahn even if it finally does explain why Malenia went after him. Great DLC but that bussiness with Miquella an Radahn...
Technically there is a Questline with him. The St. Trina questline which basically pieces together a lot of things, including the reason behind miquella's actions and why we decided to kill him I highly recommend doing that quest
@@shaktosh524St Trina's quest basically tells you that Miquella had went off the deep end in his pursuit of becoming a God to save the lands between from the influence of outer gods. I won't spoil the big lore dumls, but trust me, it helps a lot
_Somehow Radahn returned_ Joke aside, despite the lore, I still think this fight from its atmostphere, the boss's moveset to his soundtrack - Everything is perfect
@@rangopistacho6928It is him but it's much more complicated than it seems. Essentially Miquella wanted Radahn to be his consort after they made a little friendly deal way back when, and Radahn basically said "Sure, once you get all that set up, I'll join you." But for Radahn to be his lord in this plan, he would need him to die so that he can bring his soul to the shadowlands, but Radahn being the type of person he was, refused to die unless it was by a warrior's death. So Miquella had Malenia go and fight him to finally win him over through combat, but Malenia ended up losing the battle. Queue cinematic of malenia using her rot to nuke the entirety of caelid, whisper in Radahn's ear that Miquella is waiting, aaaaand He still didn't die. Radahn, being the gigachad he is, still held himself together through the rot, which basically completely ruined his plans completely. Now that Radahn is festered by rot, miquella would need to put his soul into a different body once he finally gets his hands on radahn Enter Mohg, after we kill mohg, miquella apparently sneakily steals his corpse, and then puts Radahn's soul into Mohg body. By the time we get to Miquella, Radahn most likely had just finally accepted being Miquella's consort and now he's a god and all that jazz
@@josephbulkin9222 You apparently missed the memo that Godwyn got his soul destroyed, turned into a horrifying deathless abomination, and is thus completely unsuitable for consortship. All the other consorts candidates we know of - a Tarnished, Godfrey, Radagon, Mohg, etc - have been (relatively) normal people, not soulless monstrosities.
@@josephbulkin9222Isn’t Godwyn super duper dead, though? His soul was completely destroyed by the Black Knife Assassins so he can’t be fought in any conventional sense. Then again, maybe his hideous corpse would’ve made for a cool fight if brought to the Land of Shadow somehow.
It would have made more sense if miquella was trying to bring back godwyn rather than rahdan And it would have made even more sense if trina was going to be part of the marriage to birth children
Well, Godwyn's soul has been completely destroyed after the Night of the Black Knives, and as powerful as Miquella is, there is nothing to do about that. If you consider that his grand plan was creating an order where everyone was an equal (even shunned beings like Omen, Albinaurics, and Misbegotten), then Radahn was the most obvious choice He was the strongest demigod and had a heart of gold.
From how i see it Mohg and Ranni are the only ones i see being the only sensible children in all this. Im so glad i married my blue lunar princess blue 💙. Oh and enchanting his own sister to kill her brother. Miquella sucks
Eh,from what i seen, there are more than just Mohg and Ranni(Ranni personally depends on if you think necessary evil is a must so she can bring the age of stars).Morgott,Godwyn, even Radahn(i think Miquella is forcing him or being a delusional yandere for radahn)are if not the most sensible out of the demigods.
A Promised Consort without the Promised Multiple Endings. Just why. WHY. WOULD YOU MAKE A CULT. ABOUT RESURRECTING YOUR BROTHER. JUST TO LEAVE HIM DEAD, FOR ANOTHER? WHY MAUSOLEUMS? WHY ECLIPSE? WHY EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE HAD ABOUT THEM BEING CLOSE? All to be forgotten in favour of a random repeated boss with a repeated second-phase, oh, my stars... Worst dlc? Def not. But definitely, most definitely, the most letdown of a dlc.
This hurts me so much to say, but i didn't like the ending and the final boss at all, the dlc is perfect, but why Radahn? And the reason why Malenia nuked Caelid and Radahn was because Miquella was rejected by him??? Really? Im sorry i fucking love fromsoftware, the dlc is perfect, but the ending is bullshit on a lore perspective, the ost and artistic side is amazing, but the lore...What happened with the eclipse, what happened with Godwyn, why dont we have more contact with Miquella through the dlc like with Ranni on the base game? He is only at the end and says 2 phrases...
why would that be bullshit? Gods are often known to have huge ego despite their "wisdom". Miquella wanted Radahn's hand for marriage since he was probably fascinated by him. Also Radahn was the best candidate among all the other demigods. Its very possible that he did not take the rejection lightly. He then sends Malenia who tries to kill him by force but it doesn't work. At the same time Miquella charms Mohg into kidnapping him who he then can use to create/give birth to Radahn. Miquella then intends to marry Radahn and have children with to start his own age.
So I'm going to assume we did not do the St. Trina questline in the dlc. Talks not only quite a lot about Miquella, but also why Miquella is not only a threat, but needs to be put down for his own sake It actually helps so much
I'm with you man, i love the first phase, and like a stand alone fight this could be a gorgeous encounter, but i hate when in fiction the characters come back to life, i know in this case it's justified somehow but, for the final BOSS this is so meh , second phase sucks
@Scorch052 He was going down the same route his mother did. In the quest to make a better age that has no influence of outer gods in the way, he stripped himself of his flesh, his emotions, and his humanity in the form of st. trina, the half of him he discarded. He wanted to get to his goal so bad that he wanted Radahn killed and brought back to be his Lord. He was someone who had good ambitions, but he wanted to reach his goal so bad that he was willing to sacrifice everything to get there, it's quite sad.
@@oneofthekindscarf8612 oh make no mistake I understand it. The best part of the DLC by far is how it humanizes Marika and makes us understand how both of them had ostensibly good ambitions but those are seemingly always corrupted, be it by outside influences or simply the corruptive nature of power itself. I just don't feel like this is the best or most compelling way to present that narrative, and can't help but feel like they moreso ran out of time and had to make concessions and cuts, as From so often does.
Oh sure when final fantasy re-uses the same boss a billion times they can get away with it but the moment a souls game re-uses a boss, suddenly it's a crime. READ THE LORE AGAIN FOLKS AND QUIT COMPLAINING.
