Electric Motion EPure review - can an electric bike really do trials? YES - based on 3 days riding at Inch Perfect Trials!
There is lots of debate about whether an electric trials bike can really do trials but having tried and tested it I can safely say yes, it can. And I now want one over my Beta Evo 250.
This is part 1 of my Electric Motion EPure review. It’s one thing knowing the stats but it’s another testing with a bike in an off-road trials park environment. So here’s life with the Electric Motion EPure.

Electric trials, yes please! Absolutely fantastic experience day with Inch Perfect Trials on the Electric Motion EPure Race. With a full hydraulic clutch, 600Nm of torque and more range than my body can handle I'm blinking impressed! The electric offering simplifies everything, adding linear power for silly traction and a huge confidence boost. Twist and go, no stalling, no gears, it leaves the brain to focus on actually tackling the terrain. Progression is mad. But honestly, the smiles are even bigger!
Inch Perfect Trials is a 100-acre playground with amazing coaches too so whether you're the bees knees riding or an absolute newbie there's fun to be had. I definitely recommend a visit. They do full bike hire and tuition.
Clutches. Throttle control. Balance. Traction... There's a lot going on. But this electric EPure trials bike just simplifies it all. Not in a way that takes away the pleasure, in a way that accelerates progression, simplify the faff and creating smiles. Full hydraulic diaphragm clutch and 600Nm output on a 75kg bike that's fully trials capable and with near zero maintenance. Linear and precision delivery makes the power of combustion seem pretty old school. That's what electric does, it's a new era of performance but honestly, in a way all us combustion fuel guzzles can love too. Trust me, I wasn't convinced but once you try it...
Would I have an Electric Motion trials bike? YES! I'm allowed another bike in the garage right?

I’m riding a Harley-Davidson right now but back in the seventies I done a lot of dirt bike riding(motocross, hare scrambles and trail riding) . I’m looking at a lot of different trials bike videos and really like them. I may eventually get one and I really enjoyed this video and the fun you showed doing it 🤠✌️🇺🇸

Great video. My two young sons race motocross on an Oset MX 10 and Husky EE 5 (both electric). I just ordered the Electric Motion Escape R and the process of learning about EM lead me heavy into trials for my kids. Now I want to also get my sons into the Trials scene here in Canada.

Not jealous at all 😭😭😂🤣 looks like you all had an epic couple of days. Was interesting watching the eBikes at work just watching this my knees and hamstrings died I swear 🤦‍♂️🤣 I started MX on a PW50 when I was a kid (good old glorious 1980’s 😂) when I moved on to other bikes I always missed not having to worry about the clutch 🤷‍♂️ I’m going to have to look this place up it looks awesome. I tried one of these things earlier this year and I was blown away how good these are. I think if you are competing in elite/pro/expert class or whatever you call it where you are, there might be still some work to do when you are hitting really big or steep obstacles. Anything below that, these things are amazing. And the battery lasts throughout the whole day... When I'm done with my Beta 250 factory, EM is definitely an option. Really cool bikes.

Awesome video and you can see how the electric is a bit of a game changer. Did you notice the extra weight? Also what’s the price premium over the combustion?

Thanks dude. Technical review coming very soon with more details. Absolutely no re the weight. It's 77 LG and my Beta Evo is 66 kg + oil and fuel. So actually they're really quite comparable and with my skill I really don't notice a few kg difference hehe

Looks to me the rear suspension was set too stiff for your weight...it wasn't moving much when you pushed down to jump over things. I understand electric bikes disengage when you let off the throttle, did you find the bike rolls too much forward and backward at times?

I've gotta say, the thing I don't like the most about my 300 trials bike is having to kick over a 300 and she's pretty thirsty in trials terms. The more I see about the electric scene, the more it's making sense! I'm actually also on the pre order list for a Damon Hypersport for my street ride and I may have to swap the trials bike also. That's pretty awesome.

What does the clutch do on the electric bike? You can't stall an electric motor so I'm curious what purpose it's meant to serve. Thanks anyone who knows the answer.

I think initially it was added to combat the traditional combustion lovers who 'NEED' a clutch. Reality is that on electric the torque is so intense and power so instant and linear that you don't need it. BUT the new Electric motions actually have a clutch that works like a 'normal' one. So you can hold the clutch wind the power on and release. Mad cool. I've not tried it but for top end trials it would be good for sure [not my level]

Fair points but until I see these electric bikes in professional competitions, i can't believe that they're just as capable. I mean, have you seen the stuff those guys pull off? Also, is she saying that the electric bike outlasted the gas bike? Was the bike fully fueled at the beginning of the ride and the electric bike fully charged? Did they ride the same distances and go over the same obstacles?

11:45 When you have been riding offroad since 3 years old, 1973, you probably want a clutch. The traction problem is balancing clutch vs throttle, and probably need to run in lower power delivery. I would prefer the TY-E, but I don't want to wait.

@@mountaingoat8788 I did a bit prior to the accident, Afan was always my favourite. I still have my Gary Fisher full suspension but the hip just doesn't like it. I'm really hoping I can justify an ebike sometime soon. I missing the cycling. Pre accident I did 85 miles a week as a normal week so it was so part of my life but hey, times change

Yes life is always changing in ways both big and small.. ebike sounds like a good way to attempt to get back on the mtb trails you can also save money by trying to turn your current mountain bike into a DIY ebike look up bafang middrive motors the tricky part is fitting a battery on a full sus.... ok I just read your about info very inspiring best wishes to you on your journey

Yes I have done 2 trials (i was about 16?), the first result was DNF, second result was about 3rd.....from last - haha. Ok I has an old an heavy bike, thats my excuse. Its fun isn't it?

Great skills. At least in England you have lots of 'playground' to ride on. In Holland it's almost impossible to ride free like that. You would depend on special cross-terrains which aren't that challenging. Nice video though.

Before you all order elec bikes, checkout the price of a new battery,,,, thousands££££££ ,, just like your phone, power tool and other lipo batteries , they start to become sub optimal after about three years

true but with these bikes you're getting 4000, 6000+ charges so the new battery is a LONG way off, that would be an old bike

@@c.g.c2067 I would encourage you to try a proper electric bike before you set your mind on hating them. A scooter or Vespa is certainly NOTHING even remotely comparable. Keep the mind open to new experiences is always my moto

Open to new ecperiences? Interesting 😁 Anyway my concerns are about the electric motor which I don’t particularly fancy... i drove Tesla and other electric cars and I can say that petrol engines are much more fun and rewarding also from an engineering mechanical point of view.
