I love how grounded you are. I hate it when journalists target themselves (or who think their audience is), instead of the actual potential buyers of the car when they review it. It's a family crossover, going on about how it doesn't handle on back roads like a GT3 RS is utter nonsense and, frankly, it makes modern cars sound worse than they actually are. I'm so tired of journalists whining about the lack of steering feel with EPAS. That's an upside for the people a car like this is for. They not only don't care about feeling every grain of sand under the tyres, they don't want it. Ok, I got riled up... It's just such a breath of fresh air to listen to someone who understands that and reviews the car through the lens of what it's trying to be, rather than their own personal set of fetishes.

Ethan, Toyota's own corporate communication has suggested the bZ4X is a placeholder rather than the finished EV product they expect to release in upcoming years. For those of us in northern regions, the winter range of the bZ4x is appalling. As such, I would take the RAV4 Hybrid.

What do you think of the Toyota bZ4X? Also if you're not interested in new car reviews, please stay tuned, I am working on other vids about my weird cars, and other transportation/infrastructure topics. :)

I have an 8 year old, 160k km, Toyota with piano black all over the dash and the center console and it looks *perfect*. By contrast, I've test driven a 3 year old Mazda 3 and the shiny black plastic looked horrible... I wonder if it's me or the material quality.

For an EV, I'd still choose the Nissan Leaf. Its small enough to drive in urban areas, and it has large enough interior space to put things inside them. The only downside is the ChaDeMo chargers that are not widely available (at least in the US), the range and lack of battery cooling. However, for me the 40kWh Leaf range of 150 miles is perfect for my daily round trip.

The most overpriced POS, the only EV that cooks its own battery? Fascinating that those dinosaurs still sell though more in compliance car numbers these days.

If you only use it around town, its not as bad as everyone makes it seems to be. Also, I don't need another big SUV, what I need is a small EV thats comfortable enough and reliable enough for our family. Before you say Chevy Bolt, I live in Indonesia, we don't have those. Its either this or a standard range Ioniq5 which is much wider and our roads aren't big enough for it to justify that car being our daily driver around town@@Got-lander

Not really a fan of crossovers in general. I appreciate your commentary on pedestrian safety and visibility and genrral philosphy on vehicle usage. Ive only seen one other car revoew mention such things

I've been driving my bZ4X for several months now. When I drive our other car and have to look through the steering wheel instead of over it well, that just seems weird now =) I'm 5'9" and the cockpit-like driver position is perfect, like flying a plane. I've even seen some European versions of the bZ4X that use a yoke instead of a wheel. Buyers should of course test drive one before buying. The Bz fits our needs perfectly but it's obviously not for everybody.

Although EVs have somewhat of their benefits...they are not for everybody and it's not always the better choice. My sister almost purchased a Tesla but backed out because it was just way too simplistic in its interior design and build quality/reliability is somewhat questionable, so she went with a far more reliable option, a RAV4 XSE Hybrid and does not regret it one bit. Its been almost a year since purchased and on her trips, that thing goes almost 580 miles on a full tank (or 2 weeks max without refueling for the shorter daily city trips) wich seriously beats the Teslas as most of them barely reach 380.

Thx. I know that some viewers might not be very interested in new car reviews. If you don't like them, just scroll past. I am still working on some videos with my weird fleet of cars, and some videos about transportation/infrastructure topics. But ultimately new car review videos do much better from a revenue standpoint and pay the bills. Hoping to have a balance of video types moving forward :)

The only good thing about this is they are available in Québec! This was not designed but the A design team but rather the D design team!...You should be able to see the gauges while driving and not being blinded by the reflection of the shiny black plastic, plus the console seems to be for right driving country, they should have that knee space on both side...the stupidity of this amaze me, no real transmission should mean more space there, no they go bigger! And this is not the only bad ergonomy from toyota, the corrola back seat release position on the sedan is the most far reachable for no reason at all! And the hvac button are smaller than tic-tac, i'm sure older people driving that car must enjoy having to get their glass to adjust the vents....They make good car but need good ergo people to watch them...i was unable to use a usb stick in a brand new highlander recently, couldn't find the damn button, i saw every fonction that car had except am-fm-usb on the screen! There is a place in extra-hell for all those idiotic design!

I'm baffled by this car, especially after watching your review. Why didn't Toyota just make an EV version of their RAV4, instead of making this uglier, less user friendly version with an even MORE bizarre name? Love your end thoughts on if an EV actually makes sense to most people, when plug ins seem to be a better answer in most cases (at least until the charging networks are up to snuff).

Seems like it's to protect the name if this product is crap it'll fade like a fart in the wind if they called it a rav4 it would be known as the bad generation of RAV4 something Toyota does not like notice how every generation of Corolla is good at the very least
@RetroCarsForever
@RetroCarsForever 8 месяцев назад
@@TwoDollarGararge But if it didn't work out, they could just cancel the "RAV4 EV" trim level and no one would ever care or remember. I feel like they felt they needed to make a splash and make something that looked and felt more unconventional for whatever reason.
@TwoDollarGararge
@TwoDollarGararge 8 месяцев назад
@@RetroCarsForever correct but why not take it a step further and not even have it tied to the RAV4 it'll be noted as that weird XBZ thing that didn't work instead of avoid that model of RAV4 it's crap it's basically the same logic but it's one more step out if this model was a success I would assume the next generation would be a RAV4

With Toyota’s commitment to Hydrogen as an alternative fuel source, the BZ4X seems more like a compliance car (Which they’ve put a modicum of effort into) than an actual attempt to be competitive. As you said in the video it seems the target demographic are folks who just want a new Toyota. But it all just comes across as an afterthought, that name for example in its alphanumeric format is instantly forgettable. Sure RAV4 is alphanumeric too but that’s a long established brand name, if they were serious about this sector having a name that people remember would have been a good step.

Seems like they kind of phoned it in if this was released 5 years ago even 8 years ago it would be acceptable seems like what Honda is doing and collaborating with GM's EV platforms so they have something out there as a stopgap so they can develop their own EVs is a better option

Toyota already stopped making this platform. Completely outdated and way too expensive, poor ergonomics, and small interior, low range and outdated CCS charging.
