Same exact problem i have with my 2007 BMW 328xi. It literally started yesterday while driving and had to pull over and get towed cause i was afraid to drive back This video is incredibly helpful! I hope its the same issue as yours and just have to replace the water pump.

Once the car hits close to 100k miles you need to do a set of refresh parts, thermostat and water pump should be done together as they are next to each other. Main belt, alternator, starter, battery, spark plugs and coils, upper and lower coolant hoses, front control arms, brake rotors, cabin and intake filters should be changed. DIY will cost you a third less than going to the stealership. This overhaul cost me roughly 4k.

I wanted to say thank you. I think you've helped me figure out what is wrong with my 2007 335i - I'm having exactly the same issue - no leaks and cooling fan starts up quickly when cold. I'll check the cable connection first :)

Mine just went out today, fan has been going off a lot the past few days before it finally gave in, if your fan is going crazy when the engine is cold that’s a sign!!

my 2007 328xi over heated on the hwy in MN. I limped it to a nearby mechanic I found on Google maps. Turned out it was the water pump. repair ended up costing me $1100. I have only had the car 3 months but this repair spooked me and I don't know if I can afford to keep this

Thanks your videos are not long. Most of them are so short or sped up that they’re not enough information. Yours is just right. sometimes there’s 30 and 45 minute videos they get a little bit long and the tooth. Considering I’ve messed with this stupid problem for three weeks after replacing thermostat and water pump and it still overheats I turn on the car it blows hot air for a while, then hotter stops somehow, and the car begins to overheat.. there are four fuses that control this stupid electric water pump. Will it operate but somewhat in effectively without one of the fuses being funnctional. My next step is to Check each of those four fuses.

Same prob I have. I ordered all the parts for 600. Need pump, thermostat, new bolts and 1 hose. Can fix in an hour or 2. No prob. Very detailed video on RU-vid step by step and link for parts. Just call them. Easier. I bought other stuff too, antifreeze, drip pan, no leak fill system. And some silicone grease. Too easy :)

Not surprised your car with such low miles is already having problems. Our BMW ownership experience was about the same -- car was always in the shop! As a person who works on his own cars these cars are not built to last (plastic crap everywhere) much past the lease/warranty. After that, god help the next owner.

Thank you. Just had this problem happen to me this morning. Had it towed to the shop and they think it is a problem with the turbo fan. Their specialist is coming in, in the morning to look at it. Hoping he realizes it is the water pump and not a fan problem. I will talk with him and have him check out things I have found (including this) on this problem.

This just happened to me at the light in my ‘07 BMW 335i convertible. It definitely went into safe mode and I had to pull over but I started losing power and now the car won’t start. Had to have it towed to a mechanic. Tried charging it with a battery and as soon as we took it off the car shut off again. Hopefully we will know the issue tomorrow.

R,F I'm going true over hetin right know but my fand it's doing that and I change all the h all the water hose I put a brand new radiator now I'm waiting for the fan to come in to see if it still overheat if not what could it be my coolant tank is working it is strong Cooling is my water pump working since it's throwing cool includes the little hose and the coolant tank when I bleed it??????????????

Do you know if this electric water pump is also the reason why you would not have any cabin heat?

I bought my pump/thermostat kit from fcpeuro / it's a bear to remove the parts and replace them! Not an easy job and you'll need some special tools. I have my car on ramps for the last 3 weeks! lol Good Luck!

Fortunately the water pump on my 2006 330i went out while under warranty. I was surprised that it went out so quickly as I have three other vehicles (Ford, Chevy & Infiniti) with many more miles on them and have not had a water pump issue with them. I wonder how long this pump will last?

I need some help. 2006 E90 I just replaced my water pump and thermostat and my car still over heats. I try to do the bleed process but it does even bleed. No water comes out. I've checked the fuses under the hood and all good. Please anything will help 🙏🙏🙏

Do you need to reset the computer some how after having changed the pump to stop the fan spinning?

Once a BMW hits close to 100k miles, get rid of it right away and opt for a Japanese car with aluminum mechanical water pump and aluminum thermostat housing. Look for Nathan's DIY garage and watch the videos of BMW coolant and oils leaks.

Have you ever seen where the temperature reading on the dash spikes in addition to the fans revving??

Prepare yourself to replace a lot of parts of the car, it is common on BMW's. i have a 2007 since new and I've had to replace water pump, valvetronic sensor, valvetronic servomotor, compressor, evaporator, thermostat, radiator, orings, gas cap, a lot of hoses, aims, aims cover gasket, engine cover, wipers pump, and recently the differential. Pricey parts.

I just replaced the water pump in 2008 BMW 328xi E90. After this, I noticed that every now and then I will get the over heating icon on my dash, and the fan will spin up really fast. If I try to run a cooling system bleed when I pull over, the pump does not work, but when I unplug the battery, wait a few minutes, and then plug it back in, the car goes back to normal and does not overheat. Any ideas?

be carefull i did a funtional test and it work intermitent(this means bad pump) it draw to much amperage and it sutdown modulo if you tested outside the car test good also,new pump runs constant under funtional test,

07 335i less then 1 year owned Masssssive problems back to back.. this just happened to me last night after i changed 3 and 4 position coils with plugs.. i cant do it with this vehicle...

Does driving with insufficient coolant increase the chance of water pump failure?

I have a 11 335xi, the last week I noticed the radiator fan would kick up and spin in full blast and stop and repeat keep in mind its been -30 F up here driving it around and it would do this parked. I had the AC blasting so I turned it off and sure enough it didnt turn on once for my little test, I only left it off for about 5 minutes and kind of went about my day not thinking about it. I dont drive my car much so today I hopped in and it was a nice day 30 F and me and my girl went for a little cruise probably like 45 minutes, just going 30 most the time, hopped on the interstate for 5 minutes went 70, I took the exit and soon the AC started to get a little chilly I didnt pay too much attention but noticed, drove like 5 minutes home going like 30 and at this point it was blowing cold air and I was confused, asked my girlfriend if she felt it just to make sure I wasn't crazy. Almost the same time I asked her the iDrive system pops up saying warning! high engine temperatures! I glanced at my oil temperature and it looked perfectly normal then half a block later I got emergency engine heat from iDrive and lost almost all control from the accelerator. I immediately pulled it over and turned it off and sat there for about 15 minutes, turned it back on and it kind of kicked and started very rough and carefully drove it home. Any recommendations?? I appreciate if you read this I really do, theres no mechanics within 4 hours that will look at BMW's where I live so its either fix it myself or have it towed to a dealer/mechanic, thanks in advance.

Today driving 70 mph all of a sudden I lost power, was not able to accelerate. Yellow then Red low coolant light came on. I pulled up on the side luckily I was driving on the slow lane. Turned my ac off. Turned my car off. Opened the hood with coolant vapors coming out of the side. Then waited for the car to cool down and slowly drove home taking local roads. Had to stop twice to get rid of the yellow warning sign. What is going on and what do I need to do?

i had the same problem before. if the engine is burning hot, it is the water pump.

Safe mode keeps the engine from blowing my 740i did this once you have to reset the computer after the repair

going through same shut. Everyone online is saying water pump.. how do they CHECK that real quick?? If u turn car on and out your hand on it, it should circulate water in the hose?

Hi... i hope you can help. First thing in the morning when i use my car, it brings out the orange and then red overheating signal and fan goes on. When i stop it, let it cool, open coolant to check level its really low and some of it has spilt out from somewhere close to lid but not through lid. I add coolant, and the rest of my journeys after it works fine. The overheating only happens with the first journey of the day. It heats up after travelling only about 2miles.

I ask you, I did the test but it doesn't work for me, the mechanic tells me that the pump burned (for the second time), I changed it a little over 1 year ago, it has not even traveled 20,000 km with that pump. Hi I have a 2012 128i E88 N51 motor and was crashed and is fixed now I just can't figure out why the car overheats. I check the fuses and some of the fuses are not working or power check when I test it, but the fuses are good. I checked all the fuses under the Glove compartment. Is there a ground or a master or main fuse that is hidden somewhere to help solve my problem and suggestions would help anyone PLEASE and thanks.

Hey man, I have the same car and I’m having problem with my cooling fan. I just replaced the cooling fan, new radiator, new coolant temperature sensor, new fuses for the fan and I’m waiting for the relay to come but I was also wondering if your car has the lower radiator hose sensor because I also ordered one for my car but when I was going to replace it my car dint had one.

Hey can I ask you a question? I recently bought a 328i 07 sedan with 117k miles and the dealer told me and showed me the receipts of them fixing the thermostat and the pump and not even 3 days and I never stepped on it and on the 3rd day I drove it maybe half a mile and sat on my drive way and turned off the a/c and the fan came on quick and started to work faster then the red overheat signal came on and I quickly turned the car off. Then I sat for 4 mins turned it on again and the fan still came on but I quickly drove it inside my garage and called about the over heat and they told me to bring it to the shop and the mechanic told me the pump isn't getting any connection to the computer then he went and replace the pump with a new one and now he can't find the fuze or wire to the pump should I just take it back?

i have similar symtems. z4 3.0i overheats fairly quickly which leaves me to believe water pump. but my coolant light is on and im not leaking coolant and check engine light is on also no heat in cabin. the codes read a bad temp sensor and a bad ambient temp sensor. could the sensors cause this alone or water pump and sensors? thanks for the video.

I had a diagnostic ran on my 2006 325i and the returns codes were P1407 and P1408, meaning there's and issue with my Fuel level sensor. Do you know what this mean. Should i replace my fuel pump or just the sensors?

hey i have a 335i im having the same problem but mine is losing all the water in the radiator pretty fast,somebody told me that i have a blownhead gasket but i dont have any white smoke or misfired,if you can replied and help would be awesome

water pump not to difficult to replace.

look for a sensor on the bottom hose of your rad. thats your problem.

There's is indeed a known problem for the E90 series especially before the ''facelift'' models. It's just pathetic for a premium brand like BMW to suffer these kinds of problems. But hey, if you can buy a BMW, you can pay for the expensive expances.

Lasts 80,000 miles* Variable Speed Electric Cooling Fan Better fuel economy Like 1/100th more horsepower! *New special motor fan costs 600 dollars...lasts 80,000 miles* You know what??? Ill take me slow ass, under powered chevy pickup.... Becuase atleast when the damn thing breaks down (rarely) china made the parts so damn cheap, I can get back on the road for like 40-60 bucks.

Bmw's Do not have the quality everyone expects my farther owned a 2002 e46 320i SE Sport Tourer from 4 years old it had 125,000 miles and he had it for 3 years 2 of the years it was fine but the 3rd all hell broke loose here is the list of what went wrong in order of 1st to last 1.Oil leak 2.Alternator was dying 3. Power Steering Pump Died Because of dying Alternator.4 Excess Fuel Consumption when even topped up with oil 5.Rear Heated Screen.6 Fuel lines were nearly Shot 7.A Front wishbone broke on Its MOT and that all happened in 2months at 176,000 miles it did high miles but a friend of my farthers had and still got the same model little bit newer in a saloon its done now 220,000 and only thing which as failed was 2 years ago a water pump. He owned 3 Fiats Before that and only 1 had a problem due to a recall but none never went wrong amazingly for a Fiat lol
