Very informative and thorough but a good idea for added safety would also be to identify the DNO (District Network Operator) type of mains supply at the intake point (TT, TN-S or TN-CS) which in most cases can be done by visual inspection.

A very good point but as gas engineers we are not able to make comments on the electrical installation of the house we just need to make sure we are safe by following gas safe tb 118. Thanks for watching and the comment cheers

Hi Derek, love your videos great stuff. Can you clarify in this one where it says these test equipment not suitable. We use Fluke kit so our NCVD are 200-1000v but makes sense to go with more sensitive kit. Even Kane only stock what you recommend. Cheers Steve

The lower you can get one the better because it’s all about detecting voltage to stop a spark happening as well as being safe to touch

Hi Derek, great video. I've got my gas summative exams coming up this month and I wondered if I'd be expected to do a safe to touch test following tb118 on a back boiler as I believe we are meant to do a service on one?

At tomkat we ask our trainees to always carry out the safe to touch but obviously other trainings centres do different things

If the earth and neutral are reversed at the socket the tester still says all is OK, As at the incoming there linked any way. test it take a short extension lead and wire the plug in that way and test again. But if there is a RCD on load it will trip

@@tomkatgastraining I know mate i m just messing about.Its always summat with Gas Safe though. I redid my acs in 2019 so this is actually the first I've heard about this new reg. Ive got all the kit already apart from the proving unit but I managed to get one from eBay same as yours for £60 so it wasn't too bad.

Don't need a proving unit. Gas engineers do not kill all the power like electricans so will have a non isolated source to prove on and use a 12 quid kewtech adapter plugged in on any live socket. Don't think that is poss then get a self proving tester for 50 quid on line
