Nine years later - this is still the best explanation of the pedal and its uses (including the EHX demos). I am in search of a video that dives deeper into the use of the controls and the effects loop (which is probably where the strength of this pedal is). Belated thanks bud.
JJ, this video is awesome. I have played guitar 46 years now. Toured playing up and down the east coast USA 30 of those years in rock bands. I just ordered one of these babies. Can't wait to get my hands and feet on it! Your demo clears up a lot of questions. This is a simple, unique way to fill out a solo show, or power trio rock band without attending studio college sound training. Thanks!
Great demo one of the best on RU-vid. Definitely buying this on your recommendation. Just subscribed to your channel love your videos keep up the good work.
I've been watching this awesome video tutorial that I like so much but, I have a question to make. Which is, if I use this pedal in the momentary mode, does it'd be appropriate in the context of the chord-melody technique (which is typical for jazz guitar solo) to better layer the chords at the first beat of a measure with the subsequent notes of the melody, Mr. Tanis? I know musicians, who like to utilize this recourse, are using the EHX Freeze pedal. So at this point, here comes a second question, is this one a better choice in the case I'm addressing to? Thank you for any appreciation of this query and for sharing your knowledge in such great videos. I admire your work on this channel! Best regards from a Brazilian musician and teacher living in Japan!
Whenever i check out a demo of an effects pedal, i'm always interested in how the featured pedal works on it's own. I am however, turned off a bit, when another item,(pedal) is added to the demo. In general, i liked what the pedal offers, and wouldn't mind the time to fool around with it to find new ways to make interesting sounds.
Excellent demo JJ ! Nice quality recording and a good explanation of how the pedal works ! The rest is down to the individuals imagination. Cheers Gary ps: I wish EHX would send me a free pedal to demo. I did a track called "Hasheesh Raveesh" using the Ravish Sitar pedal that I bought (also an awesome pedal by the way...) and they used it as a demo vid on their website. Still hoping in vain that they might send a freebie to try :0) you never know !
I am personally OK, and actually like, his "granular synthesis" term; his explanation makes sense to me. The analog part -- maybe not so much. 8^) But anyway -- nice demo. I have one of these and it is one of the best efx pedals I've had in my 35-ish years of playing. I have a Zoom MS-100BT in the loop, which really pushes it over the (good) edge.
I've found this to be rather difficult to use in a live/jam context. It's hard to sync your tap and playing at the same time and in auto mode, you have to *really* smash the notes/chords with a lot of attack or it won't sustain, or it won't sustain for very long. Glissando is fun, but again I've found it hard to use effectively without it turning into a big mess. Idk, maybe I just suck at using it.
I recommend to put it after the dirt to keep your sound as warm as possible, and you can either plug it before the modulations so that the frozen signal keeps sweeping while you play, or put it after and find out how the modulation sounds when frozen. But the best place is always the one you found yourself after trying all the combinations!
