Electroconvulsive Therapy Day 2

Finding Life Again

I have been battling severe depression and anxiety for seven years. I have tried many different medication combos and all have failed to improve my symptoms. I am undergoing a treatment called electroconvulsive therapy which is a treatment for depression that has a much higher success rate than any antidepressant. For the length of my treatment, I will be keeping a video journal of my progress. Due to the lack of testimonies about ECT on RU-vid, I have decided to share my journal with the community. Thank you for taking the time to check out my channel. I hope you find my videos informative and helpful.

My mom had ect 17 years ago ,after she was diagnosed with melancolia. I did not know about this that much ,but the result was spectacular..she came back from hell. The thing is that you have to be patient ,and it is not dangerous as people say .it is hard to know when the benefits of the treatments will occur ,because each person is different .she would be dead by now if we had not done it.. You'll be fine ...you are very courageous...

I am sorry you had that situation with that nurse. I am currently in nursing school becoming an RN and I'm doing my rotation on a mental health floor. I love hearing your story about going through ECT

This is a very courageous step you are taking. Stay the course, your comments toward the end are encouraging. ECT can break the grip of Clinical Depression in your life and give other things an opportunity to work or work again. You've suffered enough already and I hope only the best for you in your treatment.

+Jenny's ECT Diary you are so young & pretty, don't let that nurse depress you, I'm sorry she was so insensitive to your situation, I used to work at a behavioral health facility and I found that psych nurses are extremely unhappy and emotionally unstable

Everybody's journey and battle out the other side is different. It took me a solid year to have any control when I would start to panic.I have to be honest and say I was a little terrified for you when you first told me about ECT until I started researching it and from what I gathered it is way safer now than it was years ago.I'm proud of you for trying to do anything you can to leave this monster behind. It's very scary to picture life without it even though you don't want it.

jessica heath did you have ECTs? Did they help you?

I don't understand why people always think that they can reason with someone who has a mental illness. The whole point is these illnesses make you illogical, and a lot of the time the sufferer knows that, but it just makes them feel worse because everyone acts like they should just be able to snap out of it.

But for me knowing that many others felt the same exact way in the beginning of their battle made me feel a whole lot better! I hope this treatment does wonders for you. And I look forward to seeing your progress, cousin.

Yes, you do take off your shoes. In order to monitor the seizure, the doctors place a cuff around one of your feet so that the muscle relaxants don't affect it. That's why your toes twitch during the treatment.

I can say that I have a few friends who suffer from anxiety but you can tell that they haven't really, truly suffered on the same level as us because they judge other people who have it just like us by thinking that those people aren't really trying to help themselves or that they don't want to and the list goes on and on. I used to be one of those people myself back when I THOUGHT I had really bad anxiety.

An Alpha-Stim or Biotuner BT-7...or one of the new systems by Fisher-Wallace may help as well. Be sure to get Omega-3s as well...Lovaza is a good, good source.

That’s exactly right.. we’re doing the ect because we’re not motivated! That nurse’s comments really annoy me too.. people just don’t get depression. Even people who work in psych. :/

Jenny don't put yourself thru that - Just as effective -probably more are the Alpha Stim devices, Fisher Wallace devices and Mindalive equipment by Dave Siever and they are a pleasure to use

Omg I can so relate to the homework, nurse situation. Don't you feel like telling her to keep her opinions to herself. Its between you & your Doctor. I can't stand when people put their two sense in when they have no clue. Plus you were in a very vulnerable state.

Don't you have to take your shoes off when you have ECT? I saw a documentary one time and they showed a woman having it done and she had to take her shoes off because her toes twitched during the treatment.

I think it's easy for people to try and motivate you by saying to exercise and do all this other stuff that IS good for you BUT the nurse doesn't understand that even though she may be around people with these illnesses all the time she still doesn't know first hand what goes on in the mind of someone with depression and/or anxiety.
@ItsNotKuurrsten
@ItsNotKuurrsten 10 лет назад
EXACTLY!! Just hearing about what that nurse was saying is making me mad. when you get to the point of needing ECT, it's because you are at the lowest of the low. You have no motivation to eat, shower, get out of bed, get dressed, let alone exercising or doing things for fun or around the house. I did ECT when I was 19. I was cutting and extremely suicidal, but I didn't even have the motivation to kill myself.

God i know how you feel when these idiots say exercise and do this and do that!!!! They don’t have a fucking clue what we go through. I’m so exhausted from major depressive disorder I don’t have energy to go to the bathroom or even eat!!! I’m tired of insensitive people. I feel for you Jen.

The game has changed for me now. I know I have had it the very worst I could possibly have it because I wanted to kill myself after having a panic attack for 4 months straight with no break in between And now being past all of that I can never judge anybody else who has these illnesses and it makes me really frustrated when I hear my other anxiety friends who haven't really hit their lowest point yet try to judge others who are at there very worst.

I'd why ect still exists labotemys and suprisr baths and outside of foreign military torture the white room thing doesn't exist anymore why is this still a thing this is what medicine replaced.

@matthewalantill

Well I heard that this doesn't work well but it is helping scientists get closer to an answer... they say via this treatment it is showing that there is an over conductivity in most brains of depressed people.. so ya don't speak too soon... they say that this too will be replaced in something like 3 years
