For two plus years I have been studying Modular synthesis every day. When I discovered it I fell in love. I quickly realized how difficult it was to learn. It’s essentially electrical engineering and learning a new language. Each module has its own function and they connect through patch cables to send and receive voltage which generates its function. This patch took a couple hours to build and once the parameters are set the instrument as one will generate its own music. In that I have certain parameters I can change and shift to keep it moving and giving opportunity for new patterns to arise. This is electricity making sound, giving sound shape, texture and movement. It’s the most fascinating instrument I’ve ever encountered. I get to choose my own modules and put them together. This gives me opportunity to create my own unique musical voice I never knew I could have. I love this adventure. I’m so excited to finally be in a place that I can begin to build this unique eurorack instrument. This is the beginning of my build. The case, as you can see, still has more room to add modules. It’s a performance case. I’m continuing to build, learn and practice to eventually play this live. I will document my progress here.
