I remember at our first hunt, I was. 10...my dad told me this little saying...to a bear, a mummy bag looks like a burrito...but our job is to not let ours smell like one!
Very similar to how I set up my camp. One thing I add is mouse traps which helps slow down the mouse issues. A front vestibule helps keep stuff out of the sun and a place to strip off wet jackets before entering the tent. I would not drink straight out of any water source without a filter. I don't want my trip ruined by drinking a "bug". Glad your spending time with your entire family.
Excellent organization! For first time campers and hunters I HIGHLY discourage drinking out of ANY creeks, rivers, etc. if you choose to do so, there are things you can buy to make the water safer amply boiling the water. I personally know of 2 hunters that became very sick and had to be taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. The guide told the it was safe to drink the creek water. It’s not just cattle or other people that can make water bad.
Congrats on the successful hunt. Almost feels like a vacation cut short when you got all setup and comfortable and tag out early. Spray the table with Flex Seal or bed liner.
Wall tents are awesome. I'm in BC and I've got a 13'x16' and I thought that was big, that thing's massive. Bit of work setting and tearing down but way better than any other tent I've had.
Thank you for the great video. It is nice to see the family that gives you strength and support. Too many men exclude their family, implying that they do it all with no help.
Great camp Clay, so how has life been since alone... I bet your glad to be home.. So you got your elk in a few days great job.. Elk hunt is on my bucket list hope to do it one day myself. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome Camp excellent setup. You look mellow and calm. Maintain mellowness, don't go crazy buying. Say no often to the cousins u don't know who suddenly want to borrow. LOL BLESSINGS
Holy crap it’s the guy from ALONE! Congrats on that, you were my pick to win from the beginning!! Was a coin flip between you and Colter. Glad you got it done!!!
Go to Wally World and buy a roll of the rubber shelf matting used to keep glasses and dishes from sliding around in your cupboards, roll it out on the table, take it up when done, you can wash spills off of it by sticking it in a sink and it is light weight and no need to glue it down.
love the set up, the only things i tend to add is, solar panels, a large solar battery bank, that lets me charge devises as well as run a small fridge/freezer, as well as interrior lights, and.... bug netting ont he cots. LOL.
Looking forward to the new season clay. Mice are actualy worse than bears i found. What i did was get the sonic plug ins, an inverter, car battery and a solar panel. Worked fantastic. Never had a problem with them after that.
Clay, awesome stuff! Wish that I was still young enough to do what you do .Curious to know if you are related to the folks in the Jay/Mt. Carmel community. They are really good people, took good care of my parents during their stay there
Question, are you hunting where there are no bears etc. Where I live we never cook in camp nor store food in camp Had 2 bears tear up the tent/camp. Just curious.
Clay, nice setup. I noticed in your video that Liz was cooking inside the tent. Wouldn't the tent wall get splattered from grease and food splatters from cooking inside and start to smell? We have an outfitters tent and we find that if you cook inside, the tent will start to smell bad. We try to cook outdoors in a sheltered area.
This may be a stupid question, but why leave after killing only one elk? Do you only have one elk tag, or is it because it's enough for a year for your family?
Great setup! We are not campers nor hunters but maybe in the future we’ll tag along with my daughter who loves to camp. Btw I had signed up for the email list, any info about your book? I’d like to give it to my daughter for Christmas. Thanks
Hi Clay! I know you are one busy dude. But I have a guestion for you. I have been shooting for couple years now. And I think it would be a time for an upgrade. Just getting my hunting license and ready to go for my first real hunts bymyself. I want something that I know for 100% sure is going to be me, who is going to be the bad shot. Not the bow. I have watched alot of your videos the past couple years and even commented on some of them. So I know you are a straight up guy! Do you have any recommendations for a good quality bow? All tuned and set up. Fred Bears bows still good? They sometimes run in the -30% marks, so you can get their top of the line bows for 500€, here in europe. At somepoint you had some of your bows for sale, but they are a bit out from my price range. Edit. Then on the other note. What would be the best of the best? If I want to go all in for a hunting bow? Still love all of your hard work! Cheers from Finland!
There are so many options I couldn’t say what’s the best for you. You will have to tune the bow and arrows to yourself though. Give 3Rivers a call. They can help you with the right selection.
A good thought. Outfitters are going in 'heavy' anyway. Today's portable solar panels and storage systems provide wondrous flexibility and might just as well ride in the truck!
