This freedom of speech discussion is so ridiculous but I see it all the time... First someone states their opinion about something then somebody disagrees with it and then the first person responds with something like "Oh I thought we have freedom of speech in this country!" Yeah you do! You are able to state your opinion without any consequences other than someone disagreeing with you! That's what freedom of speech is. It doesn't mean you are entitled to say whatever you like and expect that nobody disgrees with you, it also doesn't mean you are entitled to be invited to a show and then state your opinion there if the person who organizes that show doesn't want you to. It just means that the law doesn't allow you to get punished for what you say.

I think that Europe and Japan have the right idea. Marriage is a legal, civil contract between two people. To have a legal marriage, a couple has to get married at city hall or a local courthouse. It was a contract which outlined the duties of a husband and a wife and it provided security for a woman and her children born to her.

I feel like Ellen is not Oprah, and she knows it. I don't know that Ellen knows how to have a constructive conversation on controversial issues. I feel like, maybe even Oprah doesn't know because I remember her saying she regretted doing a show with White Supremacists in the 80s/90s/looked about the same to me, she felt that in the end it might have gave them more of a voice, although in the end, the some of the same people came back and said the show did change them from being White Supremacists. Think about it: Before you can open any shelter you must have the security force and staff to maintain it. Not everyone you open your doors to, are always nice behaving adults who follow your rules. What if you just open your doors, without your security and staff, and someone goes to the bathroom and gets molested. Now you got a lawsuit against your church. For example: I have volunteered at a woman's shelter in the cafeteria. This shelter housed both women and their kids and was operated by the Christian Mission. ( local churches who got together and started the shelter. They provide the money to operate and maintain this place) The cafeteria rule is that you get one of each food item. No substitutions. why? the shelter has to feed 300 people and the food is counted out to the exact number. This lady comes in line and demands 2 apples. I said "Miss, I can only give you one. Maybe you can trade on the floor for another one. She proceeds to cuss me out , then she starts turning over chairs. My co-worker hits the alarm. 2 burly security guards come and take her away. She tries to hit them with her fist. This was her 3rd infraction. She got into a fight with another resident and she stole another resident's cup.They discharged her immediately back out into the streets. She just gave up a place she could stay in for 90 days, a bed, shower, training for a job, free meals 3 x a day , popcorn snacks etc..all because she had a nasty attitude to the people who were trying to help her.
