@@collin3987 they’re “different” - like Sly and Arnold. Was referring to “literally” - which is bs. Anyway put T2 and Rambo in Predator and that’s the power/brilliance Elton and Sir Billy had on stage together.
@@scottwillis6487 try having Bernie go on stage and just say the words to tiny dancer without any music or flare behind it. Bernie himself said he couldn't do the on stage part anyway even if he could play an instrument or sing. A song isn't a song if it's just words with no music or musical structuring to it, both of which Elton dealt with
Leno after tonight show I like. But he didn't know how to lay back like Johnny and Dave. Shut the hell up let it flow. But he had to be the center of attention
I saw Billy Joel in Boulder, Colorado circa 1979 ....he was a working man...played HIS ASS OFF. for hours..said GOODBYE to the band...cracked open a beer...and sat there ALONE AT THE PIANO and played for a long time more..he didn't want to SAY GOODBYE...always said he was the GREATEST.
Never been to a Billy Joel or Elton concert. A friend of mine works for Billy. He was out of town for a Billy show. His wife was at home. She had a medical emergency, He was notified. He was back home in 2 hours to hold her hand as she died. I asked, "how did you get on a plane so quickly?" He told me "Billy Joel private jet. Just me and the pilot". WOW so cool. I read up on Billy. He left high school because he didn't feel he needed a diploma. His thought process was "I am not going to Columbia University; I am going to Columbia Records". Long live Billy. One of the coolest dudes around.
It was great that Elton had Billy to back him up to those stupid fucking questions! Cause as extrovert as Elton pretends to be, he is shy and has a tough time with those questions, while Billy is just... well he is New York!
@nonnamadonna just look at his relationship with Eminem lmao. Once for eltons anniversary Eminem got him a diamond encrusted ring... Just not a ring for your finger. And I'm pretty sure Elton was the one who said it happened first not Marshall
I won tickets to their show in Cincinnati in 2001. I didn’t fully realize at the time how big they were, and cherish nowadays who they are and seeing them together was something truly amazing.
Fantastic, consummate professionals, great singers, songwriters and musicians, the like of which are a vanishing breed. I spent a lot of the 1970s completely wasted on acid, weed and mescaline listening to their fantastic music with friends at parties in the rock quarry and graveyard. The good old days when shit was fun.
@@RedDevil_Joe I'm afraid I didn't get what you mean.. EJohn was born somewhere outside London aka British. I use to say it when I mean "sorry, I didn't hear/understand it"....
Love these guys and awesome to seem them on stage together. Leno, [whose humor I usually admire], is strange with the all silly questions like he’s searching for some sensationalistic bit. Anyway, enjoyed this. Cheers.
I love how Elton has always been the mentor of showbusiness. Since getting sober he's helped so many stars get cleen and stay clean. Major respect for that alone.
As I recall from the 70s unless you were already a fan, which virtually had to be by word of mouth, the music media in the UK gave very little recognition and indication that Elton was huge worldwide and especially in the US. Same could be said for Led Zeppelin and some other UK "album" bands from that time.
I witnessed Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks at Ohio State stadium last night 8/5/23 but would have loved to see Joel and John when they played at the stadium.
I saw that show in Toronto in the 94 tour. :) Was a fantastic show...both masters but honestly, Billy Joel was more entertaining to watch. Both sounded freaking amazing, tho!
Elton is already royalty. He's Sir Elton John & he's knows some of the Royal Family, past & present. Why do you think they wanted Elton to sing "Candle In The Wind", the lyrics reworded to "Goodbye England's Rose" at the late Princess Diana's funeral - because (a) he was a good friend of hers (even though they had a falling out but made up before she died & (b) he's the best in the business.
In part 1 Billy admits he didn't graduate high school, in part 2 he admits he won't give his daughter money unless she completes more - like say high school or college...
Still can't believe these fine gentlemen were together on late night television, accompanied by whatever you may wanna call that squeaking arse sitting behind the desk.
Elton and Billy. Incredible musicians, song writers and men. Fascinating personal histories. Deeply insightful. And yet the questions Leno poses to them are juvenile, sensationalistic and downright ridiculous. No questions on anything meaningful or insightful, just a bunch of tripe you would find in National Enquirer.
I LOVE the prank OCC played on B.Joel! After being told by Joel that he wanted a custom chopper built, that had a design totally non musical; They jokingly built him a a ratty looking bike with black&white striped tires,to resemble the black and white of piano keys. Then mounted a toy keyboard on top/front of the fuel tank, they attached a boom arm and fake mic to the handlebars. And installed a Tip jar on the side of the fuel tank!Joel's flat expression was priceless!!
