So pleasantly surprised to see u reviewing this movie. I figured this would get ignored by my movie RU-vidrs. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie but I do agree with a lot of your points. Felt like it blazed through a lot of key moments in his life. After enjoying 2 made for TV Elvis movies I was just excited to get a BIG, GRAND SCALE movie about the King

I watched Elvis 2 days ago, it was AMAZING!!!! Austin Butler should deserve an Oscar for his portrayal of Elvis. Before the end credits, they showed footage of the REAL Elvis Presley, it was pure nostalgia!!!!

I'm not a fan of Elvis but I am a massive fan of Baz Luhrmann, really enjoyed many of his work and Elvis was the first Baz Luhrmann movie I've seen in a theater and this was easily one of the best theater experience I've had. When Elvis played "Baby, Let's Play Home" it really give me chills especially the rock guitar sound and when the audience in the movie were screaming, I myself wanted to scream like them too because the scene really hit me. It's easily one of my favourite scenes of all time. Baz's directing style really worked in telling this story. Austin was amazing, he deserved to be atleast Oscar nominated. He literally became Elvis, especially doing Elvis' dancing that was absolutely perfect. This movie made me listen to Elvis song, I do admit that he is a legend. This is Baz's best movie since Moulin Rogue!

I would disagree about the similarities to bohemian rhapsody, this felt so original and rather than being a 2 hour 40 music video it actually tried to do something different by using the perspective of the colonel which i think help me sympathise more with Elvis. Had such a great time watching this, 110% energy at all times
@Bjork4s
@Bjork4s 2 года назад
I think what makes this movie better than Bohemian Rhapsody was the directing and visuals. People who have seen a Baz Luhrmann movie before would know how his style worked with narration, slow motions, cinematography use and all of that stuff. His style is pretty exaggarated and it's very much so perfect because Elvis himself is an exaggarated person too. BoRhap was good but the direction was very bland (granted, it was directed by two different directors who have a different vision on screen) especially when it's the scenes where Freddie ain't performing. I just can't tell who directed BoRhap because it doesn't have any real voice of its own from a directing standpoint, it's just too formualic for a biopic standard and too safe approach for my taste. Elvis does and you can just tell this is a Baz Luhrmann movie

I agree. Much better than Bohemian Rhapsody. I have been a fan of Elvis’s for 55 years, and love this movie. Cinematography was amazing. I am a little insulted that this reviewer states if you’re an older Elvis fan you probably won’t like the movie. Why? What is that supposed to mean? Just because of my age, boring is my forte. 😤 Baz and Elvis. Perfect match. Have seen it 5 times and have recommended it to countless people.

While Elvis is the main focal point, Col. Parker (Tom Hanks' character) who played his agent, also helped play, a role in Elvis' downfall. EP was being used by record companies, while also screwing him out millions of dollars. The movie probably didn't show any law suits on screen, because it happened after Elvis died, or it wasn't really necessary to show. Most interesting thing to me, though was his music starting out in the '50s was not accepted by a lot of people, due to the historical times of segregation. I can see why you would feel it's a surface level story, though I think it was fairly accurate in its depicted for the most part.

*Theater Thoughts* is a great title! Love an alliteration. Personally, I really enjoyed the movie. Not perfect, but I think that has more to do with trying to cram someone’s life into a theatrical film. A miniseries would be more appropriate for most bio’s, IMO. Anyway, hope to hear your thoughts on The Black Phone 👀 📞

Bohemian Rhapsody managed to introduce me to Queen, Rocketman managed to introduce me to Elton John, Respect managed to introduce me to Aretha Franklin, Walk The Line managed to introduce me to Johnny Cash and now Elvis managed to introduce me to Elvis. Tom Cruise kinda plays himself in every movie lol .. I love those who step way outside their box,,, those people who challenge themselves and have to reinvent themselves. Tom Hanks character .. being the bad guy was hard to like but lets face it... he transformed himself into something new and depicted Parker extremely well to me. Given this was Austin's very first big roll and done by a great director,,, whether you like his movies or not,,, I thought Butler was amazing given all the territory he had to cover. Quite a feat I'd say

I was hoping you'd extend your horizons and see and review Elvis. I saw it....Still working through it in my head. Tom Hanks was horrible as Parker, who never talked like that. Butler at times looked exactly like Elvis in the 68 comeback special and the Vegas scenes. Hand him the Oscar now. The run time is never felt at all, be sure it grabs you and never stops, with its flashy colours, editing and pacing. My only disappointments were 1. Too much focus on Parker. 2. Using modern day music with contemporary artists pulled me out of the film and was just a bad decision to do. We needed to stay immersed in that 60s and 70s era. 3. Butler needed to either have six months off filming and go and eat and get in bad shape for the Vegas scenes or they should have used prosthetic makeup to make him look fatter puffier and bloated because he never truly look horribly sick especially in the last scenes, where in real life in his last year Elvis lookef absolutely horrible. 4. I think the film should of ended with Oscar Butler playing Elvis in his last ever concert instead of showing the real footage. I think if they had a very fat bloated Austin Butler as Elvis it will really would have nailed an Oscar winning performance for him in that final scene and I think they also should have filmed the death scene to really hammer home how shocking his demise was, again not just strengthening the film but Austin's acting performance and Oscar chances.

"i like the tragic, bloated version of Elvis" hahaha! i haven't seen the movie yet but i can already tell it's not for me. looks to shiny, glossy and family friendly. i don't want that, i want the dark, tragic, surreal, gritty full story of Elvis's Life Biopic........like a Mix between 2019's "Joker", 1976's "Taxi Driver" and 2011's "Drive"......with the soundtrack being Elvis classic songs, slowed down, synthed out and covered by someone like Trent Reznor of NIN or the guy who does David Fincher Scores.
