My brother-in-law had to take Elvis's food up to his suite at the Ramada in Wichita during one of these tours. He never saw him because they would take the tray and never let you in the room.

This is wonderful. As a 13 year old boy I remember reading about his 1972 show in Wichita.. He was in a great state of mind after hearing the incredible news that the June 10th Madison Square Garden Live Album was flying off the shelves..You can feel the excitement and hear the band on this bit of footage you show... Like the June 10th show Elvis and the band were in the zone and took it to another level.. Thanks for sharing this.

I attended Elvis' Concert on March 23.1977 in Tempe, AZ at the Arizona State University Activity Center (now Wells Fargo Arena). @thewonderofyou1
@thewonderofyou1 Год назад
@@epbackontour thanks for the reply.. I found out some information..I don't think he stayed in Wichita overnight.. But there was a crash involving one of Elvis' limousines, downtown that caused a waiting period with the police. According to the newspaper....I think he visited there that evening though.. Either to get changed or try wait for the crash to be sorted.. Or on the way back to the airport to shower and change etc.. He didn't have the luxurious Lisa Marie yet.. Just a chartered plane.. I found later with research sometimes they would fly in for an arranged hold up at the hotel until the gig or after the gig then move on when he could fly out... He did it apparently even in 1977.. There is a signed note in the hotel guest book from the USA treasurer for president Nixon and President ford, and a letter sent later from her, placed in the book where they have done the same.. Stopped briefly in-between whistle stop meetings.. It's all very interesting.. The Elvis signed note has been dated by Elvis when he was in town that day and been confirmed, last week, as genuine, by Richard consola (the top Elvis writing expert).. And it has the original newspaper clippings from the next day in 72 about the Elvis gig.. Very intriguing.. There's a page signed by Bob hope and they've placed photos on the page. It has the photos taken of him in the hotel, with newspaper clippings about him staying.. Same with Diane baker the actress and many more..

I'm so happy that Wichita State was hospitable and good to y'all on your visit. It's my alma mater and is the region where I spent half my youth. Also, the December, 1976 show was the first time Elvis performed "unchained melody," and I believe that to be true. Great video, and enjoyed seeing my old stomping grounds.

Wow, Doug, Wichita grad. A lot of great players have played on that court. Some of the best that the Koch brothers could buy. I'm kidding. I'm a former sports writer and have some good Marshall stories.
@dougdickason
@dougdickason 3 года назад
Yeah Koch didn't really involve himself with university until the 90's. Growing up as a kid I loved the early 80's Shocker hoops teams with Antoine Carr, Cliff Levingston and Xavier McDaniel. I know they have had a great run in recent times, and I have followed it from afar, but still not the same for me. Marshall huh, another historic "smaller" program, moreso for football, and at least they support football. WSU and Marshall both share the tragic plane crashes and losses of teams.
