James Burton is clearly one of the greatest, most influential guitarist. I got to shake his hand once. I was thrilled.

My mom, aunt and grandma saw Elvis in concert at The Sportorium in Dallas when my mom was a kid during a tour called The Louisiana Hayride. They all got to sit front row and were able to grab Elvis scarf. They gave it to my grandma for safe keeping. Years later my mom asked if she still had it. My grandma told them that she threw it away and called it "that smelly old thing."

I grew up in Shreveport and attended several concerts in the Municipal Auditorium, I've had the pleasure of touching and walking on the stage. Elvis got so big that his last performance on December 15, 1956 was moved to the Hirsch Coliseum because the Municipal Auditorium couldn't hold that many people.

Hi Jordan, yes, what brilliant statues. How kind of James to give all those free guitars away to less fortunate children so they have the opportunity to learn music. How lucky were we to get to go inside that building and go right up to the stage, that was fantastic. Great vlog Jordan.

And to think it all happened because of a long-running weekly radio show, like its contemporary in Nashville. And in recent times, I'd say only Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion reached a similar level of cultural importance with its decades of popularity as a variety show on public radio stations. And I say that as a former radio guy myself, always loved the audience and playing as many requests as I could.

I live just out of Shreveport, and it’s like pulling teeth to try to get them to make the municipal a regular attraction. You have to make an appointment to get a tour. My husband gives the tours sometimes, so I wish I’d known you were coming. So glad you at least got to see some of it. The dressing rooms in the back are pretty interesting as well.

@@MTknitter22 A lot of reasons, but one is that they look down on country music in this area, and many of the Hayride stars were country. Elvis’ arrival changed everything.

As a kid in the 80s we would go to the Municipal every other weekend to watch Mid South Wrestling. Got to see people coming up like JYD, Kamala, Ric Flair, Hacksaw, Jim Cornette, Dusty Rhoads, Ted Dibiase, and some guy named "Stunning" Steve Austin. ZZ Top used to do tour rehearsals there in the 80s and would kick off their world tours from there.. it was chosen because of Dustys love for Elvis and legend has it Elvis started the lyrics to Viva Las Vegas on a dressing room wall there. A ton of history there. Also, Hank Jr. Was born in Shreveport because Sr had moved there to be part of the Hayride

The advertisement behind Elvis, Lucky Strike, my Dad smoked Lucky Strike cigarettes in the 50’s. I think of that when I see that pic of Elvis on stage there. I remember cigs being 25 cents a pack, beck then you could go to the neighborhood store for your parents and you could get cigs for them, in my case for my Dad. Been an Elvis fan from the beginning. I remember Heartbreak Hotel on the radio, and hearing them call Elvis, Elvis the Pelvis on the radio. I listened to a 50’s interview that Elvis did and they ask him about that, and he said he thought it was childish them calling him Elvis the Pelvis. Don’t Be Cruel is my all time favorite song by Elvis, I love all his music. Enjoy your videos, been watching several years. I’m in southern WV not far from where you grew up.

I don't think either of their faces is all that great (Er...JB's face reminds me of Captain Kangaroo! LOL), but the stances are fantastic.
