Elvis Presley said if his gospel music brought one person to accept Jesus Christ as Saviour then his efforts were worth it. Elvis Presley didn't like to be referred to as " king" and often told his fans from the stage not to refer to him as such and that only Jesus Christ is King.
That's absolutely right! I believe when he would sing gospel he knew who he was singing it too. He seemed to have such a love and passion for Jesus Christ and always let people know who he was singing about.
Yes you are correct. And it’s a shame it is not talked about very often in Elvis memorial videos. I also heard him one time when called the King of Rock and Roll, he said no, that would be BB King. When referred to as just the king, he said no, there’s only one king and that’s Jesus Christ.
“When I first heard Elvis perform ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ it was unbelievable. I thought to myself, ‘How the hell can I compete with that?'” - Paul Simon
Elvis had some soul. He goes with the Gospel Choir that is backing him up like a duck goes with water. Paul Simon once described the melody to Bridge Over Troubled Waters as Gospel piano. Elvis and this Gospel choir showed that beautifully.
Luciano Pavarotti once said that if Elvis it had any classical vocal training that he might well have been one of the greatest opera singers of the century. You can certainly hear that in this song. He was just beyond talented. It still blows my mind today.
I was in my car, about a couple of blocks away from home, when a kid riding along side me, yelled out "Elvis is dead". I immediately turned my car around and drove home, I could not go anywhere, I listened to the news and heard Elvis being played endlessly on the radio for days. I was literally shaking from the sadness. I loved Elvis, I collected all his cards and records, I listened intently for his next hit record, he meant more to me than any other entertainer. In those days, parents disciplined their kids. Elvis sang "Don't Be Cruel" and that stopped. if ever I had someone to look up too, it was Elvis. I loved him for who he was, I'll forever miss him. May he rest in peace. Thank you for liking him too.
In my 71 years on this earth there will never be a more comforting voice to fill me up with so much emotion then Elvis. He was a once in a lifetime gift. Thanks Jamel ♡
I agree 100% And that was pure organic talent. There was no auto tune and the bullshit technology they use today. Today these artists are all manufactured, half of them don’t even sing in “live” shows, they lip-synch, like Madonna & Brittany Spears.
I was 14 when Elvis died. I spent a week in my room crying. It was so bad that my dad took me to wire my condolences to his father. He thought it would help. I had loved Elvis since I was four and wore out Return to sender. A few short weeks ago, I had the shock of my life. I submitted my DNA and found out that Elvis is my 9th cousin through my dad’s paternal line. Our shared grandparents are James Howard and Mary Traliaferro. I know that’s a distant cousin, but he is still my cousin and I am so honored. When I get to heaven and give Jesus a jillion kisses along with my close family. I’m going to hug and kiss Elvis. Thank you for your beautiful reaction. You are right. Elvis was just a part of most people who lived when he did that we just couldn’t let go of. He was a part of all our DNA.
Paul Simon who wrote and sung the original version heard Elvis's take on made and interesting comment, he said he thought it was a little dramatic but how in the hell can I compete with that?-----he knew his song was taken to another level by Elvis
@@samanthapryce138 I concur. I'm 55 as well and finally I came to my senses on realizing Elvis was a gift to us all. We were to young to appreciate what he hrought to the table, my older sister knew but I did not. I watch and listen almost daily his cover of Unchained Melody and it never gets old and fills me with nostalgia. I feel us Gen-X'rs were the last great generation. We saw and experienced so much change and greatness in the world that will never be repeated.
@@bruceb9515 you are right our generation has seen diversity n music unlike how it all is now I play music to my children and now my grandson from All decades they hear songs and music that never seen to be mentioned in music at school how are they not told about impact of Elvis and Rock and Roll in general it was the beginning of Teenagers Being Teens and broke down barriers between race and class as Everyone can enjoy quality voices together I am glad Elvis in your life daily me too as my grandson dance and sing to him and many other artist daily True fans at any age!
In response to your reaction, when I was 6 years-old, I remember running and jumping on furniture when “Suspicious Minds” came on the radio. Elvis was my hero. His last concert was in Indianapolis. I remember begging my mother to go to his concert. She told me that we would see him next time. Not long after, I recall hearing on the radio that Elvis died. I was only 6 years-old but to this day, I remember crying, the type of car we were in, where we were parked, where we lived and what shirt I was wearing. It was my first experience with losing someone I loved.
Thanks for sharing. Same with us fans overseas. Elvis was huge here in my Country, we loved his music, the gospel records too. I was shattered when he died and I remember every detail of my life that sad day. 😢 from South Africa 🇿🇦
Not just the older generation Jamel. I’m in my 30’s and discovered Elvis when I was 8yo. He’s stuck with me ever since. Love the man. He was not only the best entertainer but a wonderful human being with a heart of gold. God was on his side for sure. 💙💙💙
Bridge Over Troubled Waters is a great vocal performance by Elvis powerful and soulful 1970 this is his best year of the 70s he was in good physical and vocal condition around this time much better in 1970 than 1977 great performance should have won award for this
Hey....I am 27 and Elvis has millions of young fans....my parents were fans. Elvis had charisma, passion, looks, compassion and that voice.Heart and soul. Thank you for really honest reactions.
The thing with Elvis was/is ......every song he sang ... it just flowed from him. Yeah even though he was lathered up most of the time, he never even appeared to be breaking a sweat vocally while singing........ and to anyone that has tried to make a living singing knows that ain't easy by a long shot. The man never took a singing lesson in his life and had perfect pitch. Simply a genius and I'm so damn happy I was around and influenced by him before he went off the deep end in the early 70's.
He meant that! Thank you for not only doing Elvis but for really feeling him and understanding the connection between Elvis and his fans. I was 14 when Elvis passed I was devastated! And felt a tremendous loss. I don't know of a time I didn't love him. Even now.
As a young man I never gave Elvis the credit he deserved. He was more of a joke act but the more you watch and listen you realise just how special he was.
Also the cheesey movies and songs that came from them. I spent my youth thinking he was that clown in the movies, come to find out he hated them, the songs and that image. The more I watched his performances the more I saw what a phenomenal talent he was.
Elvis by far the greatest entertainer/singer/performer. But what’s even more important is how incredible of a person he was. Elvis gave at least half of his money to others and charities. If you take the time to watch and listen to the many videos out there with his family and friends. It’s truly astounding how he helped people and donated to charities. If he had it, he shared it. Such an incredible human being. One dear friend of his described Elvis as second to Jesus, that there was not a better man that walked the earth other than Jesus. Pretty incredible description. Tears still flow down my face with certain songs of his when he performs them. I’m still in awe of Elvis. Truly timeless. I’m so glad the younger generation is giving a listen to Elvis. May he carry on forever.
Now I know why my aunt cried the day Elvis died. Wow, his voice. What a live performance! How many of today's artists can keep it pure and deliver like that?
I cried so long after he died, I was so young but I recognised what the world had lost even then. He was like some kind of angel that was able to connect with our hearts then and now
He emptied the tank every performance. I saw him in Texas. I was 19 & I believe he was 39. I didn’t want to miss a moment. Stage presence was out of this world & he looked like a Greek god. I knew I’d witnessed a special performer.
When Elvis was trying to set signed for the first time, he walked into Sun Records and the receptionist said to a very young Elvis, “Who do you sound like?” Elvis thought for a moment and said, “Well ma’am, I don’t sound like nobody.” Boy was he right. He don’t sound like nobody.
I remember the day I came home from school - my mother was reading the newspaper - and she told me that Elvis had died. It was devastating. Everyone was in shock. I wasn't alive when JFK was assassinated so I can't compare Elvis' passing to that event. The only other time I have experienced people publicly mourning on a massive scale like that was the sudden death of Princess Diana. Those are the two times that I have witnessed people openly crying in the street. That is because Elvis was far more than a singer. He reached your soul.
I was seven and living in New York the day he died and it is one of my few memories I have from living back there. I will never forget it and I really had no idea who he was at that time. He is the greatest entertainer this country has or will ever produce.
Jamal.... Elvis fans the world over were crushed & devastated when he passed away & the impact was very long lasting & still is. I became a fan of his when I was 8 (am 51 now) & when my parents (both Elvis fans) told me he’d died...... I cried for ages 😭😭😭 As long as his music is played somewhere around the world, his memory & his legacy will live on forever...... LONG LIVE THE KING ✋️👑🤚⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm 60...raised on Elvis....saw him in concert when I was a teenager; and He still rocks my world ❤ BTW my Dad was in the audience for this performance 😃
Z wow dude that's a really Cosmic connection you have to say that fact that must be great I wish I had that bragging rights lol you know I'm just outside perspective but God bless you and Heaven
My mom cried for days when he passed I was lucky enough to go with her to a concert when I was 14 and I'll never forget it he was beyond great... Keep up the great work
I was just nine years old when Elvis died and I can still remember the impact of that day. I remember the sense of shock and great loss. Elvis was and shall always be the king, he was the complete package and he will forever be missed.
It doesn't matter what singer we are thinking of...Elvis Presley could go from bass to high tenor. Nobody in history had that range. Five registers? He must have been an angel. There is no other explanation.
In addition to his incredible talent, he surrounded himself with the best band and backup singers. So versatile, non judgemental, music was music and he could interpret any genre at the top of his game
i am 21 and a huge elvis fan. last weekend i visited the european elvis festival in bad nauheim. this man was everything. he changed lifes and still does.
When Elvis sings, you will never hear anything that he sings. Médiocre. He will give it his very best every single time. I'm 61 & have loved Elvis for as long as I can remember. I was told by my parents since I was around 2, I would always go up to the TV & stand, whenever Elvis was on, singing or watching one of his movies that I loved, and I would start Kissing him, on tv. My love for him never stopped. I've always loved other artist & I was completely crazy over Bob Seger but I had to say, even though I say Seger is my favorite, he is to a degree, but not more favorite, than Elvis! He's not just the King of Rock-in-Roll, he's a Legend, that nobody will ever touch, not even Michael Jackson, and I love Michael Jackson, but I'm sorry, he's touched & sang to a whole lot of people too, He just can't touch the King, as far as his music ability, the people all over the world, that loved him, his songs & his music. You have to consider all the ones he touched, that are already in heaven, as well. Alot of his fans were like my parents, who now live in their Heavenly home. In either "72" or "73", my daddy, mama & aunt got alot of my family tickets to see Elvis in Atlanta, at the Omni! I was so impressed at what I had seen & heard, it was a once in a lifetime concert, that 'll always Cherish & remember forever, as long as I live! 💖 I'm not sure if you know, or are aware of the fact that when Elvis did his Concerts in Hawaii, That was such a special big night & for me it was a monumental occasion! It was the 1st time a Concert & to my knowledge, anything, had ever been shown via satellite, all across the world!! It was a big moment in time, for everyone watching! The concert was Phenomenal, as always! I'm so glad that all of you do these reactions for everyone. Thanks too all of you, a new generation & even some older generations, are finally hearing Elvis sing, get to watch his moves, his style & his charisma, but most of all, you get to hear his Beautiful voice & get to see for yourself why he's the King of Rock-in-Roll & why he'll always be considered a Legend!!! I will always love Elvis!! I love your show!!! 💖💖💖💖💖
Possibly the best Elvis performance ever...tears are streaming down my face, by the beauty of his voice....thank god we have this to listen to and watch...
I’m 62 and I still get goosebumps from every song. It’s like a spirit to spirit connection I’ve had since childhood. Elvis was the first celebrity crush of this little black, Detroit girl who lived music and movies.
Great reaction 🙃 It's strange coz I couldn't even say WHY he affects people with his singing even to this day... I cry when I see him (frick knows why! 😶) despite trying not to... Think he always had a genuine vulnerability about himself that came thru his voice... Plus he was damn good looking lol 😛 He had it all.. And definitely gave his all... Like all the greats x We miss you Elvis 💞
I see and feel the impact he has had on you my friend from just a few songs. His fan base is still being born. I was only 13 when he passed and for me it was like the world stopped spinning for weeks. For me the very fact that he has an impact on you just through video says everything you need to know about Elvis
Yea man i remember wen he died my mom was in the floor cryin like a baby for this man she had never even met before in her life everybody momma loved the king Elvis Presley
This was a huge hit for Simon & Garfunkel in 1970. Paul Simon who wrote this said when Elvis recorded this it was much better than the original he recorded! Simon later wrote a tribute to Elvis called "Graceland" that would be great for a reaction!
Oh man. You made me cry here. I still miss the man. He’s been in my ears since my childhood and I never heard anyone put it into words like you just did. Our generation still feels the heartbreak of his departure. He influenced and impacted us in a way that is deeper than words...until now. Thx for finding the words.
Wow, you're reaction brought back many memories. The day Elvis died (august 16, 1977), I was driving along when it came over the radio and I stopped dead in the middle of the road and sat there in disbelief for almost an hour. I don't know if anyone honked at me or yelled for me to get off the road because I was completely numb. That was a very sad day because of all he meant to the world. My brother said there wasn't a thing I didn't know about Elvis and he was right. A few days later, Ronnie McDowell wrote and recorded the song The King is Gone and it was eerie because he studied Elvis for a long time and sounded so much like him.
Effortless and full of emotion. He made that look so easy. We still feel his loss that's why his fans are still and will forever be loyal. Such a special special person
He always said that it was that connection he felt from us that made his performances so special and why he is loved and missed to this day. I mean how could anyone forget the talent that he had. I know I can't .😊 You'll always be with us Elvis as long as you have even one fan left.😊😉
Minute 1:56, "when you are down and out, when you are on the street" What a powerful message of encouragement from the King of Rock n Roll to be thinking of those in such hardship.
Just a beautiful rendition, shakes one to the core. It was a big loss losing him. I always begged my mom to take me to see him in Vegas when I was a kid. Never happened. A teacher of mine in Elementary school, Francis Smith, in Bakersfield CA was from Memphis, beautiful woman, dated Elvis just after he hit it big, 1956 or 57. She told me he was as sweet as could be, so kind, a complete gentleman, very humble. She even brought a picture of them together, she just thought he was an amazing person. I live in Vegas, work in the casino business, an old friend, a boss who retired, worked security in the 70s at The International Hotel where this song was filmed, said Elvis was just a unique person, treated everyone as a friend, came in the employee cafeteria many times and spent many nights talking to them, tell stories and take pictures. Everyone just loved him, never heard anyone say a bad word about him. Drugs took it all away, a lesson to everybody. A kind, gentle soul, robbed of half his life.
No body was like Elvis Presley nobody. He was really a true gift from God. We need more men to be a show love a compassion to a lost a dieing like Elvis Presley did a still does today in spirit.
Best version ever. People who put Elvis down are just so so jealous of him which makes me feel really good . Great reaction from you. Keep bringing Elvis to you channel
I wouldn't say it's jealousy, but if that makes you feel better about your insecurities about other people's opinions, believe whatever makes you happy.
@@Gutslinger I think your the one with the insecurities I must have hit a nerve saying they are jealous. you just can't take the truth. Like I said that makes me happy knowing that you are jealous of Elvis.
@@myelvischannel1992 true, there are haters who can't give people their due. It's not political or about comparing ; it is recognizing his impact he has had for generations. 👑💌
I am requesting Elvis singing "Can't Help Falling In Love " from "Elvis That's The Way It Is!" He always closed his concerts with that song . Uptempo version.
Thanks for your appreciation of Elvis & your understanding of our connection to him! He was beautiful inside & out! You can't not think of the many blessings bestowed opon us by our Eternal.Father when you see & hear Elvis' soulful voice! He is more than missed!,The world was a much better place when he was in it with us! Thank God his awesome music lives on ! It is so marvelous to see folks like you who are now, truly discovering what Elvis was all about ! I wish you could have seen him in live action! It was indeed a life changing experience! No one like Elvis Aaron Presley before his arrival or since he left us!
You will notice in many of his performances he looks to his left to the Sweet Inspirations and either winks or smiles at them....sometimes he would work his way over to them and scare them in some funny way...
You know, Jamel, I can just imagine how he'd feel now, 42 years after he's gone, to hear your words about him. Truly, virtually the whole world was in love with him and mourned his untimely death. Thanks for another beautiful reaction video....
