Elvis absorbed all the music from people around him. He was so varied in his taste, he loved opera singer Mario Lanza, he loved black gospel, he loved country singer Faron Young, he loved gospel quartets, he loved many artist and wanted to meet them and tell them he was a fan. He did that with Tom Jones, Jackie Wilson, Fats Domino, BB King, and many more he was never jealous of other performers, he was awed by them. You don't get it, opinions vary on musical taste,, that's fine, but Elvis changed music and culture, Elvis promoted civil rights, and became the most famous celebrity of all time. He broke barriers and changed fashion and the way we use the guitar, he was humble and didn't like being called the King, he said, "I am no King, Jesus Christ is the only king. Elvis has sold of a billion recordings to date, he did the first world satellite performance in 1973 and was seen by over 2 billion people. Still sounds amazing. Too bad he didn't make a killer album in 1972. He had some great singles with Burning Love, Always On My Mind and Separate Ways. Instead RCA released a couple of lousy compilations.

If you had a choice. would you go see Elvis or see The Who in 1971 after they released the masterpiece known as "Who's Next". To me it is a no brainer, I would definitely choose The Who.
