Thank you for sharing, I know it must feel a bit embarrassing but so many can relate and it's what makes us all feel we can relate to you and what you go through. Glad Hollister contacted you and made arrangements to replace the batch. Plus this is a learning lesson I now know that if I do get an ostomy I need to make sure I keep back up clothing and supplies at all times.
OMG! You are by far one of the true greats in life. I have had 2 colostomies and both times I truly didnt think I could ever live with them. I used to shake and become so anxious when I changed my bag it was almost debilitating. You show people that having this is not the end of the world. You almost seem to have fun by not letting it get to you. I praise you for what yiu sre doing. Keep up the good works. If there is a heaven, you have secured your place in it.
Sweetie, I have watched your videos and I admire your courage. I have a lifelong friend (thirty years) that has a colostomy and it has helped me understand more. Thank you.
you are helping me so much. I was told to cover up my ostomy yesterday, because it may "gross" people out. you make me feel normal. which we are. and i do travel with extra everything. i also have no problem bouncing around the house in underwear, its just my wife and me. thanx ostomystory.
I'm not the biggest Hollister fan...I've been using the Convatec Moldable Stomahesive with pretty much no problems for the past 5 years. It leaks from time to time, of course, but never from the bottom. The only precaution: they are very powerful in terms of the snap-action (2-piece system) and you must always snap the bag+wafer together BEFORE applying to your stomach. And then re-snap/check all sides a second time. It's a STRONG ostomy appliance, and I do sports just fine with it! :)
I am so thankful for your videos!! I almost lost my Mom due to a perforation in hew bowel:(. She fought hard and I moved her in with me. I looked to RU-vid to find info on changing her bags and your video popped up:). You have helped me so much:). Thank you!!!!
I keep my change gear and bags in the bathroom in a small container/box. Turned out my cat walked on it and has on occasion popped holes in the bags w/ his claws. Lesson learned. Keep them in a safer spot. :-) But, leaks happen. I am lucky that at my work I have a private bathroom with a sink I can lock myself into when I develop a full blown blow-out. There have only been a few times I had to go home it was such a mess. Thankfully. I do keep spare u.wear and pants in my file cab.
Hey girlie! Deedra and Stralen told me about your channel so I went on a hunt. I don't have this problem but you are truly an inspiration. Congrats on the subscribers and all of your success. Keep going strong. Much love. :)
hi Laura, I have leaks every day just about, mine aren't the result of faulty appliances, rather an ileostomy that spends most of it's time retracted!! I hate leaks, and have tried everything, they are a fact of life for me now! I'm glad you found the source of your leak, just a shit (n pun intended!) that it took so long to figure it out! Keep smiling Laura xx~C~xx
I have an illeostomy and have always kept a "emergency" bag in my car that includes my bag kit (wafer, bag, barrier wipes, cleaning wipes) and a complete change of clothes! Luckily I haven't had to use it but it is always in my trunk if I need it!..... Hollister is my product of choice and haven't had too much trouble with them but my insurance no longer pays for Hollister. I have to pay out of pocket. :(
I use that same Hollister pouch in a different size 18112. They leak on the bottom like that all the time and they have for years. I’ve talked to Hollister several times and they finally got me into a bag with more of a urostomy type of end on it. I’m using 18012 drainable ostomy pouch with soft tap. It doesn’t leak at all but it develops an odor after 2-3 days.
I know the feeling. It sucks! I must have gotten the same batch. For a while it seemed like every one did that. I started carrying tape to clean n tape it until I could change it. Fortunately, it hasn't happened in a while. Good luck!
i have had mine leak all over the bed......the lubrication made the end so slippery the clip just slipped right off.......a lot of clean up........thanks for video
Omg!!! This happened to me on the 4th of July...since then I keep a emergency bag with clothes and all the supplies...I've only had my ostomy for three months so it's definitely a learning process...
I had so many problems with Hollister with each different system I'd try. After I switched to Convatec, I had to start the entire search for "which one will work" again. No wafer has ever held up longer than 3 days without springing a leak around my stoma! Arghhhh But I've only had a pouch leak when using the "flip and fold" technique.
I swear my son had a bad batch of Dansac "nova" one piece bags. None of them seemed to stick properly and would just peel off very easily. Luckily in Australia the government covers 100% of the cost of ostomy supplies, so I was able to just nick up to our ostomy association and grab some more : )
I had a bad box of bags from Hollister 2 weeks after my ostomy surgery. @1st, I thought it was my inexperience. But, ppl on my forum had been having it happen too. The problem was w/the velcro closure. The strips would actually peel of the pouch, entirely. This was 6 of 10 bags in the lot. The other velcro strip stayed in place, but the messed up 1 would just slide right off. I called Hollister (luckily I had the box w/the lot#) & I received a replacement box w/3 days.
Tip: order a box of closed ended bags and keep them with you so that if this happens to you again and you are out all day then you have a back up and you know it wont happen again if you have the close ended bag. you can carry a few with you in your purse at all times. the closed ended bags come with 60 in a box.
Also beware of cats! About 10 years ago I had this cute kitten that just loved to cling with his nails to my jeans. So one day I was getting dressed to go out and the cat decides to cling on my jeans, but that day he went a little too high. So I checked my bag and didn't see anything. I'm legally blind so it doesn't help. So I assumed it was fine and left. Glad I was wearing a long black shirt because when I came back home I found the little stain on my jeans.
I change it once a week but not wait till the wafer is about to fall off either. The times I've done that, oh boy, shit happens. And it has happened countless times in 21 years.
When Hollister switched to their new version of the lock n roll I was extremely dissatisfied. I had lots of problems with heat and humidity and the bags would just unroll by themselves. If I went swimming, the bag would generally fail 30 minutes after I got out of the water. It was really unfortunate and I ended up switching to coloplast.
This just happened to me last week. I changed to the smaller pouch, and wondered if that was the problem.. I've noticed this box, the velcro closures aren't as tight as they've been. Anyone else ever used the smaller pouches,
Ouch man o.O and they are expensive as hell. I'm glad I get them covered because my income sucks and paying out of pocket would be quite the pain in the.. stoma.
I just laughed so hard, with no intention to mock anyone... I laugh because I have had so many leaks in 21 years, and some times it has been in REALLY embarrassing situations.
I had an Ileostomy from 1991-1998 because I have Crohns Disease and my colon had ruptured and they had to take my entire colon out. I used to have problems with leaking too and I used to get alot of gas which would make my bag expand. If I didn't release the gas and the feces that was in there then it would pop open causing a big mess. Usually I would be at home but one time I was at work and I was so embarrassed. As for sex, I was always so scared to say something to my boyfriend and I would make him wait. After a couple of months I finally would day something and they were very understanding. I never had no problems during sex except for one time when my bag fell off and there was feces all over. My boyfriend at the time said not to worry it and he jumped in the shower while I cleaned up the bed. I took a shower after wards.
I use hollister and I woke up with poo all over my pants.. So I changed my bag and could not find the source of where it was coming from til I looked at the edge of the bag where it clips and there was a tiny pin hole same as yours.. That was the only time I have had it happen.. But I thought maybe I did something wrong
I had my ninth abdominal surgery 6 weeks ago and ended up with a colostomy bag, due to a rare genetic blood disorder that causes blood vessels to bust and bleed, as well as cancerous tumors. So, I am currently researching and still learning how to live with a permanent ostomy. I currently use Hollister 8331 and generally change the bag ever two to three days. This weekend, I drove three hours from home to support my best friend during a hard time, a funeral to be exact. I had gone shopping the day before because I had absolutely nothing funeral appropriate to wear. I had only been at the funeral (then burial) three minutes when I experienced my first blowout ever. I never knew the base (glue and sticky parts) could peel off the skin. It literally soaked through my dress, collected in the crotch area, and was dripping down my legs within milliseconds. I mean, what do you do in this type of crisis? My anxiety instantly hit in even harder and I had to leave the church to go back to my best friends house to shower and change. Surprisingly, I made it back in 30 minutes looking horrid! What type of tape is best and where do I buy it?
Wow damn! I've had an ostomy for about 21 years. When I started, it was a clamp to close it and I've stayed sort of 'old school' with clamps because I just don't trust the lock n roll. Never tried them, don't trust them lol I fear it might open when I'm in public and have a huge mess. So yeah, in my opinion CLAMPS are the way to go. :)
I had the same problem recently Hollister must have gotten some bad bags. I use the same bags as you do, they also leaked same as yours like they had been cut between the plastic flaps, in one box of 10, I through away 6
this happens to me every few months but it's normally at the top of mine where the bag creses. A piece of tape will cover it for about an hour before you need to change the tap.
mine leaks on the left side when i wait too long to change it. That's purely my own fault. I was instructed to change the bag twice a week on the same days but I don't do that. Oh well
Yeah... I suggest you to cover it. Is no problem having it exposed when is empty, nice and clean but when Mr. Stoma decides to unload then it will gross people out.
ps you have an awesome attitude to life and living with an ostomy bag.....very cool!

I know what you are going through. I have a urostomy and I have not had good results with Hollister products. Numerous pouch and barrier failures which caused me to have a great deal of anxiety while at work and at home . These failures occur with no warning at all which can cause that anxiety when out and about. I have been having much better results with Coloplast barriers and pouches.
The leaking didn't smell? A family member had a stoma and any leaks smelled from a way away. Sounds like very poopy day...:( I see this video is a bit old, sorry
Ostomystory Hi Laura :) I have had 2 bags leak/rip open. Do you have Hollister's phone #? #m I have tried calling different numbers listed for Hollister...and they do not work. Thank you so much! BIG HUGS!
Maybe first wash you down there , becouse in poop is a lot of bacteria.. ecoli.. which can make infection urinal and also vaginal;) take care of that too ..
