Yes you can use pencil

But If you draw sth wrong it's hard to clean it. I suggest you use some special pens that are good for embroidery. They will clean with warming. You can use iron to clean what you draw

I suggest the pens that have a small eraser on top… they disappear with heat, like with a hair drier… I‘ve tried it and it really works 😊👍🏻
