I like the look the longer ferrule give. It also depends to me on the colors, shafts used and the clubheads.

I really enjoy your videos. You inspire me to do some work on my clubs. On this video, I believe they were 0.355 taper tipped shafts. I thought that when you added tip weights to tapered shafts, shims were required since you increase the shaft length at the tip slightly. Did I miss something or are shims not required. I am getting ready to change shafts in my irons and will need to add some tip weights to the tapered tip shafts. In lieu of shims, can the tip end of the shaft be shortened the same thickness as the head on the tip weight? Prefer shorter ferrules.
@charlesbartholomew2910
@charlesbartholomew2910 Год назад
Short ferrules...long ones tend to distract from the beauty of the iron, imho.

Cool clubs and really interesting build! Jim and Robin you probably already know this 😉, but I am a fan of the standard black Callaway iron and wedge ferrules. I believe they are .750 in length.

Good job Jim...I like long ferules on classic wedges with long hosels. Otherwise I prefer standard ferrules. either wat just plain black.

Im getting into machining and i want to make some clubs. I know a driver is ambitious but eventually i want to make one. What kind of glue do club manufacturers use to hold the faces together.

Do you dry fit the heads to the cut shaft length with a dummy grip to find desired swing weight or do you use some formula that projects swing weight outcome.
@McGolf
@McGolf Год назад
I dry fit

When you spine/flow/frequency match shafts, how much difference do you see in where the logo shows on the shaft...is it a big difference?
@McGolf
@McGolf Год назад
It can be as much as 90 degrees I really depends on the maker of the shaft
@Wildtr0ut
@Wildtr0ut Год назад
@@McGolf that raises questions in my mind. You just reshafted a gap wedge for me. The shaft logo on that and the rest of the irons, is in the same place on each shaft. Hypothetically, all the irons in the set were “pured” by the club maker who fitted them to me. If the puring was accurate, my thought is, KBS pured all the shafts before they put the logo silk screening on at the factory. Do you think that could be the case?

do you have any concern adding 6-8 grams of tip weights? i know there are many theories on this, but some say the "sweet spot" moves closer to the heal. I have light heads as well, and have 6 gram tip weights ill be using. thanks!
@McGolf
@McGolf Год назад
not at 6 -8 grams. You need at a minimum of 10 grams to make even a small adjustment
@philkirby2692
@philkirby2692 Год назад
So does the collar tip in the hosel mean you don’t NEED shims?
@philipslighting8240
@philipslighting8240 Год назад
He didnt need shims because the heads were .355 same as shafts.
@ericwilson4960
@ericwilson4960 Год назад
i did my pings with BB&F and used brass shim, worked great- either option works well
@philipslighting8240
@philipslighting8240 Год назад
@@ericwilson4960 You are getting confused. Jim only used the small collar to fill the gap at top of hosel. The hosel internal diameter was .355 same as shaft so a shim would not fit. your pings were .370 so a shim was required.
@ericwilson4960
@ericwilson4960 Год назад
@@philipslighting8240 my pings are .355, I used a shim in place of a collared ferrule which fit nice and snug!
@McGolf
@McGolf Год назад
To answer both questions. No I did not use a shim as the shaft and hosel were the same size. The reason got a good result with a shim in the PING head is the newer PINGs make use of a centering ferrule. where the opening is a bit wider then most. Using a shim takes up that extra area for a snug fit.
