I legitimately started laughing when it cut to the bodyguard slowly moving their head as they watched his corpse tumbling down the stairs and I just imagine them thinking "Eikon-damnit. Not again!"
Varis: *shoots Solus* Solus: *reappears and continues stroking his mustache* *Varis shoots him again. Solus reappears* Solus: You know that won't kill me. *Varis shoots him again, Solus reappears* Solus: My my aren't you bloodthirsty today my grandson? *Varis shoots him again* Solus: Okay, that's enough. Do I look like my bodies grow on trees? *Varis shoots him again* Solus: okay I guess they grow in tubes but stop wasting resources!
And whose fault is thaT? Venat could have told him at any time, but chose not to. Instead she decided to keep everyone in the dark and genocide her own civilization.
I can see why people like him lol I have yet to see him in game but he is a fav of mine especially sense supposedly all he wants is to bring his people back and he is very straight forward about things!
Wh- uhhh did he just tell the entire *secret* history of the Garleans to the random lowly soldiers positioned there? I mean, yeah they have no idea what an Ascian is but like, what?
They knew. Varis didn't see the point in keeping his bodyguards in the dark when he had to deal with Ascians on a consistent basis since becoming Emperor. The two of them are loyal to Varis but they know their place; they're not dumb enough to act against Emet-Selch.
I was thinking that too but I'm sure they're either Ascians' of the minion mage variety or personal guards who know about him being an Ascian and knowing he would just get right back up. Perhaps had their tongues cut out too.
emet selch is the definition of "not actually a bad dude, just somebody who lived for so long they became insane and genocidal" moral of the story: immortality is a bitch
To me he was certainly the most morally grey of all the Ascians. In this cutscene he appeared pure evil, but in reality he lost his entire people and civilization and was trying to bring them back.
@@loreenec8045 I think we're going to see similar from Elidibus, given his prior dialogues, e.g. with Nabriales, where in the JP version he mentions he uses the life forced on him to awaken souls (we saw this play out in 5.2), unlike the other Ascians whose role it is to restore Zodiark. If he is the heart of Zodiark, he's not likely to be tempered, and his focus on equilibrium and restoring the star and delivering on the hopes of his people suddenly make a lot of sense as independent motives.
You know you're being trolled hard when an immortal, chaos-worshiping cultist appears to you wearing the face of your grandpappy. And then instantly reincarnates after you shoot him dead. While leaving his previous body behind for dramatic effect. Definition of "chaotic insanity," right here.
His grandson is refusing to go to war because he actually cares about the empire and what happens to his people, so Emet-Selch shows up to remind him he's just a pawn and his only job is to do as he's told.
The three Unsundered can travel between the shards and they can inhabit a body and make it look how they want, so that's what he did, traveled to The First as a spirit, went into a corpse and made it look like himself.
I've been playing XIV w/ japanese audio since I started, and watching this scene in english for the first time made me realize that the dub is kinda subpar sometimes. Japanese Emet in particular comes across as an ultra eccentric and unhinged Majima-esque psychopath, but the english dub completely fails to capture that same energy. It's pretty similar situation with Zenos too tbh. I'm not here to shite on the english VAs or people who prefer the dub btw, but I would strongly suggest that those curious check out a comparison to get a better idea of what I'm talking about
