i was on a seminar from an phillipino grandmaster and i ask him what i could do against a knife attack and he answerd: "if you can, RUN!" when there is an amateur with a knife maybe you can stop him with this stuff but still this is dangerous. And when you see that your opoonent knows how to use a knife you have no chance!

good stuff because he stresses to STAY AWAY FROM THE KNIFE! 1 cut most likely will not kill you instantly but you could veary easily bleed out before help comes. Stay away from the knife at all costs. Run away 1st. Then if you cant run, fight and break his legs, arms, hands whatever. BUT Stay away from the knife
the noises he is making is simply blowing out air(breathing) something boxers and kickboxers do alot, if u dont do this you would be out of breath in 2 secs, and if u meet more than 1 apponent you dont want to be out of breath after the first one goes down.

An umbrella doesnt have the same mass as a fighting stick, and wouldn't deliver bone breaking power. You would be better off using the pointed end of the umbrella to jab at their face, eyes.
I think there is a big issue particularly on internet forums and such that everyone thinks that one style or system is superior to another. Everyone seems to be very protective of their style or system and i think the real truth comes down to the way the individual applies his or her knowledge. I can tell you from experience that ALL martial arts have valid principals. I am currently studying Wing Chun and i find it's principals to be very effective and very applicable in live situations.

@guitarfan1979 yep - we did a rather eye opening demo using markers as knives. Even with my training I would be dead most of the time from attacks. Run, run for your life. Knifes, guns, technology will trump any martial arts
With extreme respect for a great martial artist, the knife defense (open hand) techniques are not real world usable... you have to disarm and not just hit...

@Aikiarts101 ye man i studied Aikido too, back in Glasgow, Scotland for a while. Still remember a lot of the throws and wrist locks. Your chosen style is your choice never let anyone diss you for it. I'm learning and teaching wing chun in China now but I still appreciate other arts. Stick at it cos you will regret it later. I studied karate when I was young but gave up...I regretted it and went back to it when I was 22 along with lau gar kung fu later followed by wing chun.
I'm IMPRESSED! You are doing the exact right thing by deflecting the blade AWAY from the body and going after the person holding the knife! This is much safer, and once you take out the person holding the knife, there will no longer be a threat! Very smart!

i see ur point, but the lesson here is when u attack, attack out of instinct, not using specific techniques like other martial arts yeaches, moving the hand, curling the weapon,etc.. as emin showed at the beginning of the video,the dangers of using specific techniques like that... u cant teach instinct mate, just practise it..
FMA practitioner on a random video run, but this has made me really think about the weird idiosyncrasies that crept in on my form after such a long absence. Excellent video, I'll make sure to take it to heart when I'm training.
The best protection against a person wielding a knife is an knife or a blunt object to create distance. A gun would be better but you could risk injuring innocent people around you. Most attackers will not attack you like you see in these demonstration videos. You also dont know anything about you attacker(fighting skills, on drugs etc...) the best training tool for knife drills is a marker. Reason being, you can see the the marks that could otherwise be deadly cuts without getting hurt.
what he does not tell the ppl is that he has a huge experience on the street with real bad motherfuckers he and his SI Hing Salih Avci went out together with Si Gung Kernspecht and had street fights , Emin had to leave germany and go to the US because he had screwed up some Mobster dudes and they wanted to whack him , a certain amount of money was offered for his killing , that is why he moved to the US and became the US as his Territory as an EWTO member , then Si Fu Salih went out of the EWTO and Emin did so some time later , he messed up William Chung when he was a 2nd technician and beat him , first chi sao then he took him to the ground blocked his arms with his knees and Chung the so called King of Kung Fu was defeated in less then a minute , they used the window and a latter to climb into the hall . there are many legends about him many stories , he for sure is responsible for the devastation of many clubs or discos together with Salih Avci , Si Fu Avci invented together with Kernspecht the ground fight , they had to write everything down and study their fights ( but they never attacked someone , they just stood their ground )
It works perfectly.. only if you train hard some months/years with a guy who knows how to use a knife. If not forget and run away if you can or buy a gun....
AS long as that attacker does that slow motion single attack, the other dude can go real fast and non-stop. Not exactly symmetric demonstration. Granted, the big guy's tactics may not change, but in reality, he wouldn't look so good if the other guy was moving at similar speed and intent. But then we wouldn't be in Hollywood.
@PuddingblendeR Please note that I see Emin to be one of the best martial artists, but all of us with experience know that there is always something we miss, and more advice is best.

In the rules of martial arts if you make these sound effect you instantly transport into a film where they add in hand swishing noises and bone crunching sounds lol. I thought that the wing chun artist is relaxed and breathes out their nose. He sounds like he's auditioning for a part in a batman tv series. But good advise and excellent Wing Chun. Dude needs to just stick with Wing Chun don't try to do Stick vs. Knife tech. Cause he needs more practice. He looks like he no real experience with Weapon based martial like, Silat or Kali or any type of FMA.
Wing Tsun and Escrima are effectively a joint organisation (although there are definitely separate escrima organisations) the organisation is called AUWETO (Australian Wing Tsun and Escrima Organisation) If you are in America or whatever sub out Australian for your country. Escrima is taught at the higher student levels i think student level 8+ in Wing tsun, and the quality of the teaching of escrima in my opinion tends to vary in wing tsun depending on the instructor's knowledge of it.

@PuddingblendeR I agree with you, you have to hit, but hit as you control the weapon, not everyone will drop a weapon when hit. Control the weapon, strike and disarm... out of 14 years of combat training, that is by far a stupid thing.
