He sounded like he had a lot of fun on the record, had cool punchlines, defended himself, showed some maturity, and had really catchy beats. I think he’s as good as he’s ever been. Its not the best thing he’s ever done, but it’s certainly not bad. It’s your job to be hypercritical, but some people are really hating on something that has (mostly) nothing wrong with it. That said, I don’t think it’s a masterpiece by any means. 6 or 7 me.
@@Cienfuegos. Or he just has a different opinion than you? I don’t agree that Em is as good as he once was by a long shot but it’s just a different opinion, doesn’t make him a loser
@Mathematics no bruh he does not . i get what is he trying to say but he is not even near unbiased . for example saying a certain line is corny is not up to him . it is very subjective . i think that that he thinks if he finds flaws in his music he seems more of an expert in what he does and it works for many people but that is just so obvious that he is hating.
No no no no but but the accent is baaaad or something so let's ignore it, basically. If I had a gripe with the original MTBMB album is that the title didn't match the content of Relapse at all. The title has nothing to do with the album outside of the Hitchcock skits. It's like a misleading ad.
@@MistyDusker I know that the title doesn't stick with the album as a whole but he says discombobulated sounds like eminem from 20 years ago when it doesn't. It sounds like eminem from 11 years ago

I think Melon should really take a look at how he rates bars. It feels super random. Two different rappers can say the same thing and once he'll call it nice worldplay and the other time he'll say it's extremely corny. There is no consistency really. And I'm not even saying that he singles out Eminem with this. I feel like he would even rate the same Em bar differently if Em said it twice in two different songs. He should really focus less on bars when he can't even figure out what bars he thinks are good and what aren't. He always seems to get hung up on some throwaway wordplay that every good rapper puts in their songs instead of focusing on the actual content or good build-ups and punches. If he stopped that some his reviews would come off way less as hating and probably also end up having a more positive score. I know he is trying to entertain to some extent but this is unnecessary and is dragging down the quality of the review by a lot

If it is his opinion so be it, I can respect that, but I can't respect that he keeps standing on his points like they are facts, belittling Em's impact on the medium and looking down disrespectfully on him, despite he personally not liking him... It even shows through how little he actually knows about Em and his lyrical references.
@MH Holmez Absolutely, I think he did generally a pretty good job in 2020 and you can tell that Em is enjoying making music again and isn't just forcing himself.
@@stanley2681 They’re not really sophisticated per se (for the most part) but you do have to go into the song with the intention of giving its lyricism a chance lol. Seems like anything slightly witty is just dismissed as corny and anything REALLY witty is ignored
@@slomo6054 honestly if the song has one corny line he just completely dismisses the whole track, can Eminem just have a little bit of fun while making his songs, his fans are enjoying it
Anthony talks about 10 percent of the bars, which are the corny ones, and completely ignores 90 percent of all the bars. Eminems bars aren't supposed to fly over your head either but literally everything he says has layers to it
For reeeeal ever since Fantano didn’t even mention earl’s lyricism on Doris I can’t take his reviews of actual writers seriously. He just isn’t moved by bars the same way most hip hop heads are and that’s cool. Just watch this shit for the memes

The first verse sounds like its from 08-09. You can literally listen it just sounds completely different. And the first part is mixed way differently than the 2nd and 3rd verses. But if he really recorded the whole track in recent years he should do more stuff like this.

I believe you can still like him, if you like him. Fantano's review is an opinion too, a very well-informed one, but an opinion nonetheless. So you can disregard it and still enjoy it. I also wish Em's albums scored more, but you know, I'd still listen to some of his stuff if I like it even if Melon Man gives it a weak 1 or something
The problem with Ems music is that there isn’t much interesting shit in his life anymore that can be used as source material for his stories and albums. No mom’s spaghetti, no DiAngelo Bailey, no drugs relapses & recovery or rhyming about killing the mother of his kids. For the past few albums he’s tried to lean on a few things political, criticism of his career, and just random shit in the world. That’s not bad or anything..it’s more of like: With the source material he has now, he will never be able top his previous works only impress people fast lyrics and his brand of rapping. Don’t get me wrong dude is a great rapper, at the technical level, but instead of writers block he’s hitting ‘creativity block.’
Thank you, I said the same thing. Once I realized Em was just having fun and not taking himself too serious I enjoyed it a lot more. I definitely laughed at most of those corny bars.
Eminem: Makes a clever bar saying "They say these bars are like COVID: You get 'em right off the bat" which is playing on the idiom "right of the bat" and the animal called bat which is correlated with Covid-19 Anthony: cringe/corny Ariana Grande: Calls a song 34+35 referencing 69 Anthony: "clever"
I'm not defending Anthony here... But what is the argument for that bar not being Corny? I watched Anthony's reaction video to GNAT where he said this is corny ...that is cringe ... I'm interested..so plz reply Also why do people even look up this guy for their so called ' OBJECTIVE REVIEW ' when this pussy himself defends his opinion as being ' SUBJECTIVE '...
double entendres are corny? Try coming up with a good one. They are cleaver and hilarious when we'll executed. 34+35 is something a fifth grader would find funny.

@@OGtalks He listens to albums multiple times for reviews. I listened to it like five times in the hopes of enjoying it before giving up, each time with a "maybe I just wasn't in the right mindset". Turns out I just think the album sucks. I probably would have given it a 4, but I can see a 3. I think it's pretty bad. I think his bars are super corny and endless streams of limp similes and dad jokes with the occasional edginess slapped on top. I think I enjoyed chunks of Alfred's Theme, a section of Gnat, and parts of Discombobulated. Other than that, I would have turned it off a couple tracks in were it someone other than Eminem. I'm happy for anyone who can dig it, I love that people have different views and tastes we can share, but it's pretty dang obnoxious constantly watching his fans (and Em himself!) whine every time someone has different opinions from them.
@@Stardust_Lily the “and em himself” bit is just wrong any time an artist says they don’t really like eminem or anything along the lines of that he doesn’t really care but a lot of the times people go way to far to discredit him just cause he is the biggest rapper.
Well heres the thing. Carti is different Bc He’s more about the atmosphere and sound, he doesn’t care at all about lyrics, and that’s not what his music is meant to be. Although, I do agree that Eminem should’ve gotten more credit for his clever bars as well. Ik he had corny ones, but he didn’t mention any of his good double entendres, for example, the bowling part of Alfreds theme.
Listen to Business and square dance then listen to discombobulated flow wise he sounds like 2001-2002 Eminem(other than the 2nd verse and intro) which is what he was talking about but vocal wise he sounds like relapse Em simply because of his voice changing during rehab.(2009-2020 Eminem sounds exactly the same in interviews but different in music)
@@hunchovari just no I listened to these a lot but business and square is nowhere like discombobulated. It’s literally like Eminem want some club relapse type shit
Dawg Discombobulated sounds NOTHING like TES lmao. It was 100% a Relapse callback. He even says he is bringing back the accents in the beginning of the song. Just like Relapse, the actual lyrics were obnoxious and super eh but naturally his flow and the instrumental were dope.

Such an awful take. Sometimes I don’t think he even listens to Eminem’s music like he just looks at the track list and then goes to the rap genius to try and pick apart similes that aren’t even meant to be taken that seriously in the first place smh

Skylar did a nice part for once on Black Magic, it fits. Alfred's Theme beat is crazy and Em goes bar after bar after bar I love it! The way they switch up the beats on Book of Rhymes is entertaining These Demons has a CRAZY ENDING. when that beats switch and goes off on that 'drink tea' rhyme. Pure display of skill! Higher makes sense, I like the commentary on his succes and career choices and thoughts. Everyone is wondering what a rappers are supposed to do when they turn 40. Keep going? Its a young mans game like Dr Dre said, but what if you still enjoy doing it and have all these eyes on you? Zeus is great and emotional. Nice chorus too. Gnat is fine. Covid bars are sick (literally) and right off the bat. Discombobulated is a nice blast from the past. "the accent album" is my favorite so yeah. Then there are a bunch of club songs on this one. Killer, She Loves Me (cmon Em aint in the club), Favorite Bitch. Tone death is too dry for me personally Its not for me but hey... Still a solid 7 in my book (of rhymes)
As bad as some of Em's recent bars are, I gotta agree that a lot of rapping's strength is in the delivery itself. "To sex I'm similar to the thriller in Manila, honeys call me Bigga, the condom filler" "The next batter here to shatter your bladder, it doesn't matter" Imagine Melon doing his signature delivery and face to these lyrics. Even that sounds bad and these are some of my favorite Biggie lines in the context and flow of the song
