Thank you for sharing your driving struggles. It makes me feel a little better, knowing I'm not the only one who struggles with this sort of thing! ALSO LOVE YOU LADY

I think one of the hardest experiences I've had re: feeling broken is the need to pretend all is well. in different points in my life, whether it was that I was getting treatment or a family member was sicker than I was mentally or physically, I felt like the best I could do for those around me was to pretend everything was okay. I thought a fake-it-til-you-make-it attitude would work for my own mental health. But it doesn't. It's a fine line between hope for getting/being and destructive self deception. I don't have any grand conclusions to make from this. I just wanted to share. Thanks Emma for being you.

I've never related so much to this. I'm 16 and all my friends can drive but I'm so anxious to drive. I relate. Thank you for sharing

No problem! I think it can be even harder in HS. People tend to actually chill out more about it after HS if it makes you feel any better.

I'm really here for this video. I quit my job this week because of the severe negative effect it was having on my mental health. I'm getting such a bad reaction from my friends and family, like 'why have you done this, you've done the wrong thing' because I've not got a new job to go to yet and they think I've been too impulsive. I just feel terrible because I feel like I've failed somewhere not being able to cope with the job and because I'm not living life the way I'm expected to (only quitting your job if you already have something better to go to). But we have to keep reminding ourselves that there's not one right way to live your life even if other people act like there is and only you know what is right for you. Things will still turn out okay even if you do things a different way to others. In the words of The Levellers: 'There's only one way of life, and that's your own'.

I'm so sorry that you're having to go through this. Thank you so much for sharing! And I totally agree. We all have to remember to do what's best for us, not what society wants us to do all the time.

I totally agree re calling society on its bullshit. I've never worried about conforming to social expectations but then I had a depressive episode and suddenly I was really vulnerable to the full weight of the media and social pressure to live an 'acceptable', conventional life. The issue of privilege is crucial since my friends who black, gay, working class etc talked to me about never seeing themselves represented as standard bearers of ' middle class social norms (I'm in the UK so may be different in the US). but it's society that's broken, not us! Mental health could be dealt with so much better under different social conditions. Well done for making this video. I hope you can accept yourself and reject social pressures. Especially hard this time of year when we're all meant to be living in an advert!

Thank you so much for sharing! And yes, I think it's worse for people in marginalized groups in the US as well. Everyone needs to realize that NOBODY can fully fit into society's views on everything.

If only being incredibly authentic and vulnerable on RU-vid was "normal" because THIS ACT is truly courageous and brave. Thank for your sharing, Emma. You are not alone, not even a little bit - most people feel this way, I know I do. Rest assured, as you get older (I'm 28), you stop caring so much about other people's judgements and focus more on your own path to happiness. Until then, please keep sharing, because that's where you shine! 😘

I guess I didn't say, but even if you are broken by some arbitrary measure, you are this person I adore and I like you this way. If you want to change and can act to change in that direction, great! But I'm on your side, broken or mended.
