At 1:44 he pulls up along side of Merle. At 2:39 he watches Lefty (Merle) leave on his horse. At 4:44 he's playing guitar at a table in the bar where Willie and Merle are finishing the song. Townes used to tell the story about a night when he was pretty high and messed up and the local cops picked him up. Two cops were in the front seat asking him questions when he mentioned that he was a songwriter and singer. "Oh yeah?" said the cop who was of Hispanic descent...name one" "Pancho and Lefty" came Townes' reply. "Hey that's our favorite song said the other cop..who wasn't of Hispanic descent.. guess which one of us is nicknamed Lefty?" It was the Hispanic cop.. great story..
