As someone who is on-and-off kinda depressed during COVID, I can say that it's not depression if you like it and don't at least wish to get out of it. Depression isn't like an offensive slur. You can't "own" it. It owns you until you rebel against it.

I was a little bitch boy when writing this comment, stop liking it. (though my opinion is still the same) I actually cried at how poorly they "portrayed" depression, self-harm, and suicide. I have depression and I know people with it don't act this way. The writers clearly have never dealt with mental illness in their life and probably listened to Dead by My Chemical Romance and thought that's how people with depression acted.

I watched this with an ex, never heard of it before. Thouroughly one of the oddest experiences of my life. She loved it so much, and sat down and watched it with her. Just a strange, strange film and it goes everywhere. And you know what? She broke up with me a month later for “Religious reasons.” I found out she was a die hard Christian, and initially I thought she just didn’t know I wasn’t? But I’ve come up with a theory. That she was inspired by this film to eventually “save me” and convert me to die hard Christianity. Yeah. Haven’t talked since. This movie fucking blows.
@@mesesakeekedo8190 I would say Season 4 instead. Season 5 and 6 are pretty underrated in my opinion, they definitely feel much different than the rest of the show but they aren't legitimately bad like a good portion of Season 4

Yeah, I found the whole "all emos are devout atheists" stereotype they kicked around to be absolutely _hilarious_ considering there was a massive influx of Christian screamo and emo metalcore bands that got big in the early 2010's. There were even Christian emocore bands (the "true emo" to some) back in the glory days of hardcore punk as well.

As an Australian I do feel honoured that my country actually did a musical. The only problem is its overall message. As a Catholic the 'Jesus is a Emo' song is horrifyingly weird and just plain cringe. Though the message was true to the extent that you have to be proud of who you are, but took it a step too far. Loved your references to Sleeping Dogs by the way, they made me really crack up. Edit: the ending where the teacher woke up and felt emo was very stupid and downright unrealistic to the point where its actually hilarious. I makes you wonder whether this film was taking itself seriously at all.

the line isn’t about actual self harm, it’s about people that glorify it. the actual line is “where everyone i know has scars on their wrist, drawn in eyeshadow”
