I knew you were talking about consort Zhen as soon as I saw the tittle. She did have some bad things like selling positions but certainly didn't deserve to be treated that way or be killed, Cixi was really mean with her after all becase saw that she was a threat for her. Is auful that ahe and the emperor were mistreated just for stupid power. I didn't knew about the photo's mistery is good to kbow that, that women migth not be her or is maybe an artistic photo like the Qianlong's or Yongzheng's cosplay paintings. Maybe she just like that style and use it, look like she have an strong personality, nad looka like ahe has an awful relationship with her sister. I always found her life and dear so intriguing and misterious like the step empresa Nara story, but their faces together with the ula nara deposed empress (the one generations before Qialong's time) and the unfavoured consorts will remain a mistery maybe forever..

There are many men through out history who were horrible and worse than Cixi. Was she suppose to be weak like the other females in the palace. To be used, abused, and tossed aside like trash. I applaud Cixi for taking control of her own destiny by any means. She was not mean, She was an Empress.

Not to mention, most things that were written about her, were written by white men from the countries that invaded China. Naturally they wouldn't have anything good to say about the woman who opposed them.
