Grotbags stumbles across a fascinating fact about wet Emus in this, the second ever Emu's Wide World, as broadcast on Friday, 10th April, 1987. The songs are At the Hop (by Danny and the Juniors) and Singin' in the Rain (from the film of the same name, but originally on the silver screen in The Hollywood Revue of 1929 - though this version owes much to the disco arrangement recorded by Sheila B Devotion).
One of the great things about Emu's Wide World - as opposed to the other similar series that had immediately preceded it - is that it devotes time to explore the characters of Grotbags, Redford and Croc. With that in mind, the scene starting at 2:25 shows us the sort of thing they get up to in their spare time. I can't tell you how much I laughed at that! Not to mention Croc's unquestioning acceptance of his own idiocy and incompetence, right before he incompetently does something idiotic...
Anyway, there's more from King Boggle and his efforts to woo Lady Petunia (Pat Coombs), Rod and Emu become bus conductors for the day, and if you went to George Dixon Junior and Infant School in Birmingham in the mid-80s, you really need to check out the Twin Schools segment.
Many thanks to Lindsay for lending me this tape.
(Please remember that this is an off-air VHS recording, so don't go expecting 1080p HD quality. I'm fairly certain that this video isn't commercially available, and I've uploaded it for its historic interest only. That said, if you are a copyright holder and object, please don't hesitate to contact me.)
