this is spectacular. I wanted a solution like this because I want to keep SteamOS and see how it develops but a nice clean way to find my roms. I intend on using my deck 50/50 for emulation and PC gaming
Pretty much as I did for the VCS (which he had a GREAT tutorial on). I've been using Proton like crazy ahead of the Steam deck and getting comfy with Linux (ubuntu - KDE looks much nicer (in spite of me installing Espresso to keep my UI muscle memory with Ubuntu happy) - although I'll make the Steam - desktop Linux AND Windows both to max the compatibility with games, music library and productivity apps (Affinity). Can't wait to upgrade 2x the cores and 2X the threads from the VCS. It's funny - so many people pooh-pooh'ed the VCS - I just wanted a mini PC to get off the Mac and prep me for the Steam Deck - it's performed great, in fact, I'm typing on it right now. Probably the only downside is getting 2TB of legacy data onto an SSD from a 10 year old mac mini - and having to buy windows. BTW - should I get 10 or 11? I'm getting all manner of conflicting opinions on that so I'd love to hear who has done Windows on their own Steam Deck from an SD card and which ver they're using (I haven't looked at it much until I heard drivers finally got 'caught-up' to the platform). The Steam Deck is the first UMPC I got interested in since the OQO - over 18 years ago.
Little tip for people not used to the Dolphin file manager. Instead of openening two windows side by side. You can just click on "split" in the menubar, which will open up a second pane. And then you can switch between them and easily copy/move stuff between different directories.
This guide is already out-of-date. EmuDeck has updated the steps in their installation guide and now it's even easier than before. (This is not a criticism of ETA Prime at all. It's just that I'm following his tutorial and finding that there are many steps I can now skip because of the changes.)
Important note: Make sure to format your SD card with the steam deck. In game mode, click the steam button, go to settings and format your SD card there. Another note, for the artwork uploads, you can click the 'select type' drop down list and upload images to Grid, poster AND icons. This will make your lists more beautiful overall.
To keep tips grouped: Just a note so people don't become confused. There is no longer separate downloads. You pick local or SD during installation. There is only one download button on the website.
wow. literally just uninstalled this as it was an absolute NIGHTMARE. Followed this guide but here are the things that went wrong for me - 1) steam keyboard wouldnt always pop up. so id have to go back to the deck os mode 2)going through with the emudeck installation, it gets to where you launch the rom manager.. the rom manager doesnt launch... have to restart a bunch of times for it to show up... and what do you know, the virtual keyboard doesnt pop up again so have to restart... but the rom manager wont show up after restart.. arrhhh 3) it would not search for mega drive roms in mega drive or genesis folder. my number 1 console! 4)finally going into the steam deck os mode, seeing the games (except mega drive) in collections is cool.. i go to start a ps1 game... cannot find bios. i put the bios' in the folder it asks for! i go into the emulator it cant even browse to the emulation folder to pick the bios folder 4) no controls work at all. n64 i booted up mario 64. the a button let me start but no analog. nothing else. i cant even get the steam menu to show up. holding steam and b does nothing. have to hold power to force shut down. after spending a good 3 or 4 hours doing this for absolutely everything to fail i just gave up and i have no idea why this has happened as well. great video as always but hey, this didnt work for me at all, just gave me a headache and ive set up entire retropie systems from scratch and made my own themes lol
4:04 "link in the description". I must be blind, i do not see the link you speak of when you're pasting in the link. I only see, emudeck, your social media, equipment from amazon.
Steam Rom Manager is like: first configure parsers. ETA Prime seems to have a whole bunch from the getgo while mine has nothing and when I try to load a preset it fails.
This is the only device I’ll need for years to come, love that they made it so easy to install emudeck…now I’m just waiting on my turn to get a steam deck
To answer your question from the previous video, I want mine to do everything. I want the Steam OS frontend and the EMU Deck you showcased looks amazing. I want the desktop mode, I want to dual boot into Windows, all of it. I love tinkering with this stuff.
Steam os does seem like a good option for a htpc now, i wonder how waydroid performs on it. Android tv applications for media consumption would be great
its amazing the number of things that the steam deck can do with this price not only playing pc games on a handheld but also emulating games of other consoles on very good fps shout out for valve
I am so impressed with this thing. Unfortunately have to wait until Q3 for my preorder, but I can't wait. And I really like this as an option for running retro games. I love Batocera, but having everything integrated within steam OS is pretty appealing to me.
Tier 1: Gen 6 (DC, PS2, GCN) Tier 2: Gen 8 (Wii U, PS4, Switch) Tier 3: Gen 4 (Genesis, SNES) Tier 4: Gen 7 (PS3, Wii) Tier 5: Gen 9? (PS5, it's still new)
It changed slightly instead of you downloading a separate one depending on the storage it'll now ask you after you download and run the launcher which storage you'd like it installed to
@@Double_T123 is it as simple as something like Retroarch, just moving files or is emudeck more restrictive with certain file types in regards to games?
Homies 🎮 The number one thing that’s going to drive people crazy is definitely trying to figure out how to split the window when you open dolphin and I’m here to help. There are two ways you can either hold control and hit N or you can click on the three lines box in the top right corner and click on new window. 💫✊🏆
That Xbox cloud gaming video ya made for steam deck, you may want to check for the update. They make you unlock your os's file system for installing it previously and steam will overwrite it with updates and possibly cause some os corruption. Just thought its worth a mention.
After I plug in my 128gb USB C Flash Drive and click "Create BIOS and Roms Folders" it still says "Creating EmuDeck Folders". I have the option to select Skip For Now or I can wait. Should this prompt me and does it normally take awhile? What am I doing wrong???
I literally just commented on your last EmulationStation video about EMU Deck and how I was having issues. Thank you for this vid, will try again to see if I can sort it out!
playstation, Dreamcast, and gamecube never showed up for me.. BIOS files are there, dolphin was downloaded and opened.... also genesis controls don't work right off the bat...
Love Ur work very good I have a problem when I'm moving my ROMs from my usb to emulation ROMs folder that was created it shows 3 files saying PS2 which one do I add to on emu deck it's only showing 2 PS2 games
PLEASEEEE GIVE ME A WEBSITE WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD THESE ROMS AND BIOS CUZ I HAVEE NO IDEAA WHERE OR HOW TO GET THEM D::::: i only just got my steamdeck D:
I can't play because there no info on how to configurate the keys for the emulators. Either on the Steam OS, or on a Windows installation I made on SD card. There no way to correctly configure the keys, because for example if I press the B button it removes me from the configuration and it's not the only key with which I have a problem. So please, for the love of gaming, how do I configure these fucking keys!? (sorry to be vulgar but after countless tries, I'm starting to get annoyed that it doesn't work)
I'm having a tough time learning all this, I've never been a PC player. I have the 512gb steam deck... So I still need the SD card to emulate... I just want to play F-Zero gx
Am I the only one completely struggling to get a single game working? I've downloaded Emudeck and roms, and not a single one works. Really a frustrating experience with this Steam deck, i'm tech savvy but i didnt think I have to know how to write C+ to get some simple emulators to work.
Does anybody have a solution for using multiple Bluetooth controllers at the same time on these emulators? I can connect 2 ps4 controllers and both of them plus the steam deck will work flawlessly on regular steam games allowing for up to 3 players to play but when I attempt to use 2 controllers on the emulators only the “first player” is recognized, I can rearrange the controller order and all of them work in the “first player” position but the emulators won’t recognize anything in the “2nd player” position even if it is the steam deck itself. Anybody have any luck with this? I just wanna beat up my friends in tenkaichi 3 again 😅
When double clicking the Steam ROM manger.AppImage file it doesn't give me the option to execute, but asks what program to open it with. Even after setting the permissions to "executable" it won't execute the file. Anyone have any tips for me?
This doesnt work for me at all, I did everything as instructed, but the Rom manager doesnt find a single rom by itself, and I find it impossible on the Steam OS to set it up manually, because I dont even know how to navigate and find any of the corresponding directories that have the Emulators/Roms in them. I hope they'll come up with a simpler solution soon.
All these channels and videos about how to help people set this thing up but all of them dance around BIOS files and how to actually put them where they're supposed to go. I mean white half ass of video and leave out the thing that you need in order to play things like PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 games? What's the point? How is it helped? If you're only helping them halfway? How is it a tutorial if you're not fully getting them to where they should go?
Can anyone tell me where to get BIOS & ROMS? I can only find sites with Roms and I think that’s stopping my system from loading them up. I’m so confused on that part. &&& there’s no SD download either.
As much as I like my steam deck I can't get any roms to load. Especially my xbox roms. I hate how everyone says it's "so easy" when it isn't. "So annoying" is more like it...
You said link for steam rom manager in the description but its not... link right before emudeck Also I know where to get roms but where do you get bios? And what's the bios do? Is that the emulator? Kind of confusing
Yeah I know we can pause/rewind etc, but you went through all that far too fast. Love your other stuff, but tutorials like this need some care. Also the github link you said was going to be in the description isn't.
Being new to Steam Deck and pc gaming, if you don't have any games on the emulators, how would you add games you want?. I've only played on consoles, so everything is new to me.
I just ordered a 512gb card to my steam deck, i really gotta get some ps2 games to play, ratchet and sly cooper and god of war games... i cant wait! my ps2 died years ago... the posibilities...
I just want to use this on my desktop, because I want to play pc games alongside emulation. The only thing I saw before this was ICE which was terrible.
I want to just copy all the roms from my PC but every time I try to place my Steam Deck SD Card into my PC, it wants to format it. Do I have to manually re-install every game I have onto the Steam Deck?
I'm too dumb with computers to understand even basic shit. I git emudeck working and even got a wii game to work somehow by clicking the right window and hitting extract but I can't see it anymore in dolphin. I really wanna get some psp and ps2 games to work but I hit a wall after actually downloading the roms. Can't get em to show up in the apps and for some reason they all try to get sent to dolphin even though that's for wii
I’m researching this bios thing in regards to emulation. Please reply to me I see your roms and bios folders have zip , img files, Roms , update, ect ect along with bin files But you copied everything over to the steam deck bios folder Why?
I have had a problem with the collection menu resetting and erasing all items. They are still there, they can be played with the recent menu or the non-steam menu, but erase when system restarts. Any thoughts I have looked on many forums and all those solution did not work. Thanks your videos are so great!
