If you adjust the video speed down to 25%, you can really see how it works. It looks like the needle is getting the worst of it. It has the constant pressure of the repeater as it's playing because that repeater want to spin with the record and then when the needle is no long in the way, the repeater spins and smacks into the needle again and the needle is lifted up on to the screw gear and then finally the repeaters wants to spin again, the needle drops into the grove at the beginning. Given they sold the needles by the large bag, probably not that big of a deal, though it is probably putting pressure on the receiver.
