What a day fishing. Started early thinking I might get rained out. Nope, everything was good. It was a little humid so that’s why the early beginning. Alfred just put out the ‘28” brown trout attacks Panther Martin’ video so I thought I’d start at what we call hole 1.
I decided to use a Craig Leith (chub tail) instead of the Panther Martin, thinking a big fish would probably be wary from the last time.
Nobody around so tried to my left and came up with a beauty speckled trout, the biggest I’d caught in years.
Off to hole 1b where I used everything to no avail. I felt there was something but no luck. I repurposed a chub and threw the fish back in. It made a fair bit of noise and 5 seconds later, a big brown came out, circled around and like Elvis, left the building. Wow, could have been either fish from the previous 28” video.
At hole 2, where Alfred took his still of the 23” brown, I tried a chub tail again but didn’t use a sinker. Should have as there was a big brown at the bottom of the hole but the bait drifted over it. Had it bounced on the river bed, I’m sure the fish would have reacted. Suffice to say I frightened the fish and off it went. Well, that’s 2!!
Trudged through the bush to get to hole 3. Planned everything as Alfred and I had seen the 30” brown the previous week.
Thought I saw it and then as at hole 1b, it too disappeared. I stayed for 20 minutes and decided I’d go home but also decided on 1 Panther Martin cast upstream. Bang, an instant attack and a very flawed attempt to get the brown into the net as the video shows.
I went home, didn’t try at hole 4 as I was ticked at myself.
A few hours later I had settled down and wondered how many times I’d been out and seen 3 huge browns in 1 day. Never. How many times had any fisher person seen what I just saw.
So thinking it had been a great day l I then reflected on what a great weekend it had been, curtesy of 2 young baseball players doing their best! I certainly ended the day with a huge smile thinking of their efforts. Thanks guys, you were awesome!
