Well it would appear that the recipe is the following: no black flies, no mosquitoes, 4lb test and an appropriate drag setting as there’s no time to fool around changing it during the action. And then add a brown that’s looking for a potential photo op! Perfect fit.
What an end to the day!
The fish did take out a goodly amount of line as all of a sudden I could see it splashing around far to my left. I called it a ‘him/he’ but the jaw would indicate a female and a heavy one.
What timing that I walk up to the last hole, wasn’t even going to fish it, see a big brown at the same time swim up from my left to stop exactly where I had stopped. It stopped where the stream comes around from a 90 degree angle. It was waiting, facing upstream to ambush any food coming from that direction. What a predator.
It’s been an incredible run of very large browns and the CPL, a Xmas gift has certainly helped with the quality of the videos. And in my Xmas stocking was another very helpful gift that I’ve used this season. It’s a ball cap with WTF on it and underneath, the words, ‘where’s the fish’. I actually thought the anagram meant ‘wild turkey federation’ but apparently not. So thanks for my lucky hat, a gift from daughter, the fish have been awesome. Quite a talisman!
In episode 3 I did say I would work on not groaning as much. Apparently I lied as there’s a lot on noise emanating from me. I think the size of the fish was a consideration as were the walking conditions. My feet were mired in muck as I tried to concentrate of controlling the fish. I succeeded in controlling it but failed miserably in my personal sound category. So next time I’ll be quieter or possibly not!
This was a powerful angry fish and several times I envisioned the hook coming out as the struggle continued. Luck allowed that not to happen.
Alfred and I have been incredibly fortunate to net these wonderful specimens, let alone even see them! Fishermen and women sometimes fish a lifetime and never encounter once what we’ve been privileged to see multiple times already this year alone. We are thankful for that opportunity.
Thanks for watching. Hope to see you again.
Cheers
