There are only few options: xenon and khaak. In fact, only one is edible for end game crisis: open vacant inactive gates and Xenon of the past generations after years of evolution are back and attack in all directions. However, this will broke most sector mods and lore-inappropriate.

Something a bit more ruinous would be if The K'hak or Xenon got new ships for assimilation of player and npc ships, stations and scrap. The assimilated assets would be modified and turned against the universe. This way you can't easily spam ships because you could potentially be feeding the Xenon/K'hak war machine. Rather than the need for resource farming the 'mother ships' would be monstrous roaming hives/bases that consume all in their path and a war of attrition would erupt fighting over every station, the need to protect every trade route, fight over every bit of scrap.

If you have looked through the time line it mentions the presidents end massacre. Massive kha’ak ships with a big weapons and a massive beam like the Asgard. The beam is called the Kyon beam. I feel like the perfect implementation for this is that a mass invasion of every area of the universe with the massive kha’ak ships with the kyon beam would be a huge challenge. In addition, it is super lore friendly!

My crazy hope for the next DLC (which I know is super unlikely): Egosoft adds a Kha'ak invasion as an endgame threat, including many new types of larger ships. But in addition, they also add some story about how a small subfaction of the Kha'ak learned to communicate with the other races (probably with the Boron), and want peace instead, allowing us to get flyable Kha'ak ships. That way, we could get both a cool invasion event, and the possibility to fly new ships added for that event.

Xenon are limited by an artificial fleet size limit. You can observe this by destroying a few of their sectors and watch them concentrate huge fleets in the remaining ones. If I recall correctly it is tied to the wharves and shipyards because if you destroy them then they rebuild in a different zone they own.
@CaptainCollins
@CaptainCollins 8 месяцев назад
Yeah, but at some point you pin them down enough, they will not build two wharfs in one sector.
@Nephale

All factions have this limitations. For me its almost mandatory to increase the xenon limits with a mod to help them stay alive and be the overwhelming force they should be for other factions.

@@Nephale You can’t really say that because you don’t know the specs of the average gamer. I would bet that at least 60% of people’s pc would not be able to handle that. Especially given the fact that the game now as it is still has lag and stuttering issues on even higher end PC’s. I have a good PC that runs everything and X4 is the only game that causes lag and stuttering. Now add what you’re asking for and thats more of a heavy load on an already very shaky game that’s trying to balance optimization with content for player. I mean, a perfect example is the DLC’s. I personally think it is more important to understand why we would need or want an all-out war. I am totally for any idea of huge crisis that brings challenge and changes the pacing of the game: faction wars sound great, kha'ak invasion is cool and even despite some mods being available to increase xenon aggressiveness I am all for it! But the ultimate question is why. Unfortunately X4 is not an RTS game and even though we can build our own production of ships there is almost no cost or limit to it. Resources are largely available, you are not attacked by any factions other then kh'aks and xenons by default and there is no technology research tree what so ever. As soon as you buy (steal) all production blueprints and buy blueprints for the ships and equipment you want you are good to go. You just spend a lot of time and money and build yourself your own megabase to constantly produce one fleet after another. But the problem here is not that it makes it easy. Quite the opposite, any full out war will consume a lot of your time as a player and a lot of efforts. So the reason is why would I want to dedicate myself in this kind of challenge and what would I gain from completing it, because in X4 killing enemy ships brings you almost nothing substantial. Partially Captain Collins gave an answer for it in his previous video - new ships. - If you join another faction at war let us unlock their special ships (XL-class or maybe higher) after we win the war. - If we decide to go to war against any faction, let us have an ability to loot enemy ship blueprints from destroyed dockyards (good alternative if you want to fly split ships but do not want to improve their reputation to 20 in order to buy blueprints). - If we go to war against kha'aks or xenons, give us an opportunity to loot some technology to develop xenon-based ships or kha'ak-based ships (I want to fly in a prism of my own for example) - If the player prefers pirating, let him start a war between factions to be able to board new special ships that will appear only in this case. Also, I have another idea of something other than all-out wars. For example I would like to play a small "scenario" missions, when you are dropped in the middle of unknown sector with limited resources and without a way out and you have a condition to win, like destroy enemy base / develop production line / build an outpost and survive limited time / help ally forces to win in battle and so on. Not sure if it fits the "existential crisis" thing and do not know what player will gain from this kind of missions, but initially I thought those thing would perfectly fit online part of the game, where one player may send ships or build a base for other player to attack or defend against. Maybe those 'scenarios" would fit faction wars if developers do not want to threaten player's world with "unhinged" xenon fleets in case he will lose and would be unable to recover from it.
@Nephale
@Nephale 8 месяцев назад
My main problem is that there is not enough to fight after you get 1 normal sized fleet. I am not even talking about ridiculous 20+ destroyer fleets here. Unmodded xenon can defend themselves once and need eternities to rebuild afterwards. I would also like better ways to earn mods besides raiding lost property offices. I like your ideas but my main problem is that there are not enough military ships unless I let them build fleets for 20h+. Reading these comments I feel like im the only person liking the fleet combat.

the existential crisis is an endgame thing, hiding new XL ship blueprints behind it doesn't make much sense
@Jovian999

I think this is a great idea. Obviously we see it in strategy games like Stellaris, but there was also the OCV, from Litcube's amazing Albion Prelude mod, which were basically super-Xenon that gradually took over the universe. I do hope to see some new ship designs that would enable some variety on this (new or returning Xenon or Kha'ak ships wouldn't require designed interiors, after all), because a new branch of Xenon or a large-scale Kha'ak hive invasion would be really cool. There's plenty of room for creativity though -- perhaps the pirates unify under a war leader and start destroying gates, or a new gate opens connecting to an isolated and eccentric branch of the Paranid or Split who decide it's time for the Purification.
@cammy9r
@cammy9r 8 месяцев назад
That Litcube mod was my favourite mod. Using MLCC to jump in waves of ships was great. Sending in a fleet of M7m's to flatten all the fighters and corvette class was nice to watch, just don't think about the costs involved. Most of my main fleet were stolen exterminators courtesy of the pirates. Not played X4since split vendetta so don't know if there is an equivalent to MLCC, I miss the jumpdrives though.

The Xenon are already a threat and doesn't sound like unique end game crisis optional to the player. I think the existencial crisis term comes from the fact that people think X4 is a 4X game (explore, expand, exploid, exterminate). You said full out faction war is not likely and you gave the reasons why, but maybe we would have something similar to Mount & Blade or Starsector.
@CaptainCollins
@CaptainCollins 8 месяцев назад
How do they do it there? I haven't played M&B for long enough to know.
@ZlothZloth
@ZlothZloth 8 месяцев назад
The problem with the Xenon is that, even with a dozen I's, player-made defense stations would rip them up when they go through a gate. They would need something to deal with those stations: missiles that go through gates and blow up in a pulse that knocks out all turrets for 10 minutes or some such. Kha'ak don't use gates, though. They just pop around from place to place, as near as I can tell. With them jumping in anywhere, those massive defense stations become easy to avoid. Players can put lots of defenses on their own stations, but faction stations are going to get slaughtered. Or the pirates convince half of each faction to rebel. Civil wars everywhere! And the pirates make a ton of money selling hacking software to both sides. If you've got positive faction standing, then the rebels against that faction will attack your stations, too. If you thought those pirates making your stations dump cargo were bad, wait until a fleet attacks just after hacking your defenses!
@CaptainCollins

The xenon death ball with new Qs + Js could be very interesting as a new Crisis. kha'ak would need a full set of ships and possibly a real economy to function without fooling/cheating the player... no matter the crisis, the player should be able to stop it... so I hope there aren't massive ships and fleets jumping everywhere as kha'ak usually does, this would ruin the entire economy that Ego develop without the player be able to tackle it.

My guess is Kha'ak invasion. Maybe like in other games the "new" enemy shows up randomly with an absurd massive fleet and tries to gain control of a sector to start building up an economy. After getting control of one sector, the fleets will go to the next sector and so on. So we would need new Kha'ak ships and weapons like you mentioned but also they should be able to build stations like shipyards, defense stations and so on. Of course they would need massive cheats in terms of ressources, money and production/ build time. But I think, this could become challanging for the player - even with bilions of cash and tons of fleets.
@jackyoung1208
@jackyoung1208 7 месяцев назад
I think upgrading the xenon is the best and most straightforward way to add a true endgame. Give the xenon supercapitals - a battleship and fleet carrier archetype. Add endgame variants of the known fighters upgraded with Mk 2 or Mk 3 components. And most importantly, give players the option to salvage and research Xenon wrecks and reverse-engineer xenon ship components (or maybe even hulls) in the research station. This adds useful stuff to two existing mechanics that I feel are under-utilized - research and salvaging. TBH, you should be able to reverse engineer blueprints from any wreckage you haul back to your station, possibly including station wreckage if that becomes a thing (I've never checked if those are targetable as wrecks, but I don't think they are).

Hopefully there's more than "one" possible crisis, to have some variety. Looking forward to this. 1) COMBAT: Invasion from the kha'ak, Xenon or even a rogue fleet from an existing faction 2) COMBAT: A rebellion that starts in one sector and spreads everywhere, with stations and ships joining the rebellion: stop then quickly or be overwhelmed! 3) RESEARCH: A plague that starts killing everyone and we have to supply multiple research projects to find the cure 4) EXPLORATION: Find something somewhere? Does not sound like much of a crisis. Maybe the SCA have placed bombs on every station and we have the find the ship that has the detonator. 5) BUILD: Build a mega station or build multiple stations, one at each gate, with a special module that would prevent the gate's collapse.

For me the most certain ennemy will be kha'ak, I mean it would make sense because at first in release 1.0 they were weak and had like no purpose except spawn a little bit here and there, then they gave them an update with cradle of humanity DLC and gave them actual outpost and some kind of purpose, so kha'ak have an actual power growing slider. Now it would make sense that for the final they become a threat again, they are after all the main threat in the past games and have some crazy technology like the jumprivdes, imagine if they could jump entire fleets into NPC or player sector and just wreck everything before going back to where they came from... You would be safe nowhere and players would need to defend their territory. If it's just xenons coming out of gate, Most players already have gates covered by invincible stations, they would just get blown up as they get out of the gate. Kha'ak don''t use gates. Also I would think of more like XXL Kha'ak super battleships like in x2, some crazy big ships that could take out entire fleets on their own and that would also prevent this game from having CPU Bottleneck issues if you give kha'ak hundreds of ships which you kinda need to do as players in end game can have tons of ships... That's my takle on the situation.

Well, Egosoft did release a video half a year ago stating that the "crysis" is an optional conflict with a major faction (which one is to be determined). So we can rule out all of the "pirate" factions like Hatikvah (though that would be one hell of a crisis, a pirate empire ala Stellaris khan would be so good), kha'ak and segaris. Due to story plots we can rule out paranid and split as well. Borons are pacifist (Darth Boso notwithstanding), Argon and Terrans already have a war plot. That leaves Xenon, maybe a dormant gate that could be opened to trigger a massive invasion. Or Teladi. Which have been completely neglected, and gameplay-wise there is no reason to go to war with them, for both the player and the AI. Plus the're getting new ships, which will hopefully make them actually good in combat. And they have a whole ass subfaction dedicated to combat that could take over at any time. Yeah. My money is on Teladi. Pun intended.

Without normal combat AI, everything will work like hell... The developer needs to do 1) roles for ships and for each role manually make sets of weapons and equipment (and not now just any random thing) 2) Teach the AI to use torpedo bombers! you need to make groups of dorpedo carriers that are attached to aircraft carriers. Torpedoes are serious weapons, they can destroy super powerful stations and any capital ships! But the AI doesn't know how to use them 3) interaction of ships within a group\fleet. Now the ships in the group only move, when the battle begins, each ship acts independently 4) Ship equipment requires rebalancing! but this is not very critical and can be omitted compared to AI problems 5)The AI of the destroyers is terrible, the concept of their frontal guns needs to be redesigned, perhaps making them primarily anti-station guns. or significantly speed up the rotation of destroyers. Well, it is necessary to teach them to fly backwards while shooting at an approaching destroyer!!! In my opinion, this is not adequate when 1 xenon K can destroy 4-5 destroyers of other races such as Teladi, Paranids, Argonians, since they cannot use their main battery and simply spin around and try to run away, receiving a ton of damage, despite the fact that the crowns themselves do almost no damage , since their 2-4L turrets are useless. . . Awakening the xenon would be easily possible with mods like focw and faction enhancer. I think, it would be kinda lazy to just uncap the xenon or something like that. Maybe if they added more different ships, more defensive structures, etc. I think some big unknown "unstoppable" Enemy from the outside connecting with the portal network would be very interesting. Maybe they could start in the same status like the borons: disconnected and dormant from the rest of the network. via a trigger there would be one or multiple reconnection where they could awaken, start flooding and conquering the map.

I'd rather they be jumpgate-abiding Xenon (or Xenon-like) aliens. An existential crisis means also means that the crisis can be challenged. The Khaak come our from nowhere so they are - and should be - just an annoyance that you have to deal with here and there. The crisis should be something to be concerned about but not be to the point of being unfair. Ramping up Xenon aggression, maybe giving them a few more ships sounds like a good and economical perspective (Egosoft are not that big of a team after all). I'd rather most of dev development go into making the game/gameplay better from the player perspective (theres still much room for improvement) rather than spending too much effort on new opposing faction.

i have a few thoughts. first, as much as i'd love to see a Xenon J, that is in the lore, or a maybe Kha'ak super mothership, not sure it can be Xenon or Kha'ak cause in end game where players have billions and fleets, these threats are usually mostly eradicated or completely controlled. gonna be hard for one of them to come up with super fleets out of nowhere if trying to keep some consistency. second, to have an all out war gonna be hard cause to get end game missions and money you kinda need most everybody to be cool and mostly peaceful. have to be something they all want badly enough to make them fight over it. this are trillion credit organizations, i can't think of anything they'd care that much about. third, my guesses are one, since we've been missing all the corporations from the x3 series, maybe one of them comes back through an unfound gate, hacks every station on the entire map, dismantles all the stations and builders, cept for a few of their own someplace and leaves everyone with what they have with no way to mine, trade, rearm, and only can repair if have previously made support ships. if have enough and can work together maybe can destroy them and free the Commonwealth to be able to build again? this gets even more interesting when realize all the sectors would be now white and claimable cause all administration building are gone and if unlock building again and will change the whole map. prolly my favorite idea, cause then factions who just worked together might fight over sectors. be cool to have a different map, imho. two, maybe the whole gate network shuts down again and every sector becomes cut off. this will create many problems depending on who you are cut off with or where your fleets are or aren't. you could lose your shipyards or other stations, as well as other factions possibly losing their stations. sure are some fleets in the game but not in every sector. a couple of SCA destroyers in an unguarded sector is gonna clear the place. maybe have a few min window every couple days where the gates flicker on and off and can move to other sectors but make them random jumps so have to think about taking the risk of jumping into a possible hostile sector and hope to eventually get through to a place where your stations are and can save whatever bits of your empire are left? trying to think big, idk. can't wait to play it. love this game. cheers.

As some others have pointed out Stellaris has some good crisis in it but the other thing we can take from Stellaris is that we could have all 3 of the crises that you came up with and more but maybe not have them all happen in one save. This could add some more replayability to the game if only one of them came up in save. Also wondering if they did go this route then maybe they would add an extra one that is DLC only as well

I also think the Faction War is very unlikely. They are not as dependend on each other as you said, but still the economy of each faction is not that big that they could afford constant fighting. Also it would not be consitent with lore. I would like the Kha'ak, and don't forget that Ego said they were originally intended for a bigger role. And they already simply spawn, no economy, so numbers aren't a problem. So that is where I would put my money. Problem is of course that they can jump everywhere which makes any defense really existential crisis. Xenon would be the most logical and easy to do. Keep in mind that Ego put in several new gates with the Boron patch suspiciously in or close the major systems. What if the attack is against the capital stations - shipyards etc.? Your job would be to either protect those faction hearts with the representatives or rebuild those important stations elsewhere. A crazy variant is this is that you get to command any faction who's representative has been killed by the invasion. That would really be something Ego has never done before.

@@CaptainCollins I'm thinking they could just do blue tide explosions but the gate still works. The effect is already in game with some tweaks, even support for shields as station protection. They could be repaired by a new XXL repair ship, or just builders if lazy implementation. Similar mechanic to Teraforming, assign the ship to the job and then it has station supply mechanics. Would add endgame XXL shipyard goal, XXL ship build goal, resource sink which is a bit more meaningful than Teraforming rewards, economy stimulation and processor load reduction by culling many NPC ships and stations. Quest triggered, so don't build the XXL ship and repair the single exploding gate if you don't want to trigger the galaxy wide crisis.

I forget- the Xenon Hub still exists somewhere correct? I thought the crisis may be that the Hub is reconnected and there are some Core Xenon systems on the other side. Xenon need a bit more variety to their ships as well though. I play with mods that beef them up a lot and it's pretty fun. Personally I think kha'ak invasion would be more interesting. They can teleport anywhere- which gives them the ability to get past all of the massive defense structures some players use to defend gates. You also end up killing a bunch of them with the Boron, so their revenge would make sense. I remember their home sectors from the old games and I'd love to see that again. I hope they get ships added as well. Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be both lol.

Where the game randomly picks one (or more if player chose) Unrestricted Xenon or even Kha'ak attacks (would love to see capital Kha'ak again) Unrsetricted all out empire Wars Now, X4 is more than just fighting. So perhaps an economical crisis. An enviromental one? Something that changes the resource distribution on a critical level, making current resource chains very strained or obsolete (X happens = all ores/gas disappear from a/multiple previous rich system, perhaps opening new gates to new contested sectors). Super highway gets destroyed/disabled (mini crisis?) Some gates shut down and shuffles around (Mid game crisis?) As star goes poof for some reason = Destroying a whole sector. Making it rich in resources (gas or otherwise) but also hazardous. Salvage operations anyone?

My theory ?? The sohnen. They are used by the ancients like the xenons origins. A very highly sophisticated AI. They are basically used by the ancients as a " Physical" touch on the universe to interact with races and even the gates themselves and have manipulated the gate network already(they were behind the gate shutdown). They are highly advanced and been spacefaring a lot longer than the commonwealth. I believe these Sohnen were responsible for the xenon " evolving" with the go ahead from the ancients as they love to play god and obviously have some higher agenda that we have yet to understand. Thats just my theory however. Also to note... The sohnen were used to defeat outsiders who invaded with a system sized ship. So yeah... They are terrifying to think off as an enemy 😂😂

I think the Xenon option is the most likely one. I personally would frame it as a big Xenon fleet returning from deep space. That way it would be independend of the status of the Xenon in the known systems. Something Terran based could work too. Maybe a new government that is bend on supremacy (Would go nicely with the upcoming Trump dictatorship in the US). The other factions or the Khaak seem unlikely since most of the time non of them are strong enough in most games. The Khaak maybe with new ships, but only using those for the crisis would be a waste. So my money is on a large armada from outside the known sectors. Most likely Xenon, but maybe from one of the factions or maybe aliens 😁

Maybe not quite that big but Big enough it takes multiple Asgards to bring that monster down, And of course it should have either a ton of missile turrets, or a full carrier groups worth of fighters for small ship defense. No doubt I'm being a bit extreme here, but I've seen enough Asgard Video's to know that with their current tech the Xenon are more of a Nuisance than a threat to any faction with access to Terran Weapons. . Then again, Terrans are Historically pretty Xenophobic. Maybe a Anti Xeno party (Think 40K) comes to power in the Protectorate and attempts to stamp out all the Uglies out there? First, it could be just a faction of a second fleet that, for example, led by different Deca CPU and chose to oppose the one that currently controls the new gate network ones. Mabye it's a friendly one, mabye a mad one. Who knows what could happen. Second, it could be remaining terraformers of first or third fleet. It is far-fetched, I know, but to this day it is a opened question if they all have followed safe self-destruction directive. Mabye even old Aldrin terraformers reprogrammed to oppose evolved second fleet or somehow gone mad. Third, it could be this shady paranid from "terraform Segaris" questline. They did copied tech from Earth Torus, they can modify it or sell, for example, to Duke or Beryll-alike. Toying with Xenon tech always led to disaster. Also, this could provoke terrans into another terran confict. Fourth, the most boring explanation, it could be just old Xenons, reunited with their "kin" after gate network collapse. They are not new, but this is something new in X4. I doubt they would oppose current Xenon though. It would be just an upgrade of current Xenons. But all of this could be combined with first scenario to make something more interesting.

I'm for Option X2 😃 Opt. 1 would be to easy Opt. 3 still to easy for a experienced player in endgame. I spent quite some time (mostly in 6.1) with Semiras "Xenon Hell" mod. Its depressing when you start a game with it, but when you start it in late game you just put a fleet in front of a gate and build a large defencestation -> problem solved. Opt. 1 has the same issue, gates are chokepoints and therefor very easy to defend. Kha'ak avoid this problem with jumpdrives, they just need good capital ships. Also, ist like 50 years since their "defeat", plenty of time to rebuild.

Yep, and then chase them to their home sector and destroy the mothership or homestation. Makes sense

Is it possible to make ai to invade stations meaning to take over and use enemy resources? Meaning corporations can grow that way instead wasting resources on building stations?

Not yet, that would need a completely new mechanic.
