I'm gonna go on record and say that I love this movie. Still, having said that, I wish the love story between Bruce and Vicky was better written with a couple more scenes of the two of them connecting, because they are both great actors and it would've been nice to see Vicky talk with Bruce about his parents getting killed, and see her crack that hard armor of his (not the bat suit lol) . Bottom line, I love Jack Nicholson, but there was too much Joker and not enough of the title character. Obviously, they didn't have time to explore Batman's past for this type of film, but more scenes to better get us into the psychology of the character would have been great for Michael Keaton.

Its amazing to me how many supposed Fanboys and comic Traditionalists, who are SOO quick to "correct " all the deviations made by filmmakers, are often themselves completely unaware that there was a time in the very early comics(Golden Age era) where Batman DID kill on occasion. He didn't start out with a "One Rule." Alot of people for some reason think he did. In fact no comic book character(Not even Superman) before the 1950's and 60s had a rule against lethal force. That came about after a bunch of do-gooders got the comic industry to censor itself. To essentially make the characters more "Kid Friendly." That's literally the only reason any of them have the rigid rules and tropes that they do. Bill Finger and Bob Kane had a more gritty vision for Bats than what the watered down cliched version ended up being. So in reality the general take of Burton, Snyder and presumably Reeves on Batman is more connected to the core vision of Finger and Kane then really any rendition we've seen in film, animation, or video games.
@Tribrachidiumheraldicum
@Tribrachidiumheraldicum 2 года назад
Who cares? No-killing rule is an easy example of "art through adversity," the origins were corporate but in actuality it made the character more interesting and gave him better stories. Many comic characters were created by their creators with different intentions than they end up going down the line, might as well make a Deadpool movie where he's a regular assassin and nothing else since he was created to be a Deathstroke clone and nothing else. Batman became anything but "watered down," those original stories are ass, just standard hard boiled detective stories that every comic and radio show was writing at the time. In regards to this movie you can say the same thing, everything was changed not for artistic innovation but to make it more palatable to average audiences, Joker kills Batman's parents because a run of the mill revenge motivation is literally the best Burton can come up with. It's not a bad movie, but it's not even close to a "true to character" adaptation for the flimsy reasons you've stated. But enjoy you're mediocre 1920's 10 cent comics I guess.

Love the ending music and the symbolic gesture at the end with Batman next to the Bat signal being Gotham's Dark Knight. Also like how they paid homage to the Animated Series with a bit of the dark-toned music as well.

Wayne's apex in this Universe; the Joker has just been defeated and Gotham has embraced its mysterious & dark vigilante as the City's Champion; it all went downhill for him after this.

There were only 2 batmans in my life! Michael Keaton & Adam West !!

At that moment, what we had to beat in live action were still those nuances of the series with Adam West and that comical feel that was very little aligned with the comics. As a child not even 10 years old in Brazil (where old American series were constantly shown on TV) I had a phenomenal impact caused by this film. In addition to the hype created at that time around this production, there are fond memories of my father taking me to the cinema to see this film and still being faced with such an emotional and satisfying ending. I remember that my school notebooks had images from the film on the cover and I completed an album of stickers exclusive to that film.

Batman Forever was too neurotic, Batman and Robin was between porn movie setting with nipple costume and big toy commercial

Everything is just like comic book. Art, ambiance, characters everything. God why cant they use this a blueprint to make more films just like this? This is Batman.

The part where Vicki looks up into the sky and sees the bat signal while the melancholic theme plays always stuck out in my mind. Just brings me back to my childhood, dressed up as Batman while watching this movie on cable TV at night 😢

Gordon: Our police have rounded up all of the Joker’s men. The reign of crime is now over. Public safety in Gotham is no longer a laughing matter. Dent: We received a letter from Batman this morning. “Please inform the citizens of Gotham that Gotham City has earned its rest from crime. But if the forces of evil should rise again to cast a shadow on the heart of the city, call me.” Knox: Question. How do we call him? Gordon: He gave us a signal. 1:03 🦇

Knox comes back during the Crisis on Infinite Earths event, but that's it. I'm sure he was around years later during the events of The Flash movie, but obviously never seen.

My only complaint about this scene is that the music is not loud enough. I think it should have been louder. I usually turn it up when this scene comes. I miss having my surround sound. It was loud.

Had this movie been a one and done, I think everyone would have been satisfied with it as a stand-alone Batman film. Not that there isn't a campy charm to Batman Returns, but this was the only one of the 80's-90's Batman films that really seemed to take itself seriously.
