High Banking the Trout Creek Claim.
End of summer, and end of permits on the Trout Creek Claim. Lets get one last run in before we shut it all down. Sebastian from Canadian gold mining and myself spent a short morning running a pile of paydirt that was left from digging a tailing pond. It was not great quality paydirt but it was easy and hit had to be moved back into the hole anyhow. This claim needs to be reclaimed as our permits are coming to an end. However Sebo is planning to take out new permits and run this site next year. And when he does I will be there to film it all.
Highbanking is fun and can yield a lot more gold than gold panning alone. However we only had a short time and a small amount of low quality paydirt, so the yield in the high banker was not that great, (.26 grams) however the day was awesome out in the wilderness doing what we love with friends.

not very trip is a gold rush and then when least expected, boom, gold swarms the corners of your pan and it just renews the faith. Every once starts as a speck somewhere and gets you back. I love it when the bugs are few but when I do my best, the gold does too. And you are are very good pannier. I see guys slop their fine over the edge cause of being in a hurry and gold mining does not befit them

Not that that's what it is, but you could conceivably find diamonds in gold placers up there -- if there is any ophiolitic (more or less serpentinized) peridotite in the area. That is, slabs of upper mantle that obducted up onto the N. American plate. Also, possibly ultramafic lamprophyre dikes or sills could host diamonds. Not talking commercial kimberlite or lamproite pipes-levels of diamonds, but some. Many macro-diamonds have been found over the years in the Sierra Nevadas and Klamath mountains of California and Oregon. In the Klamaths at least, generally found downstream from serpentinized peridotite segments.

I wish I had some of that Gold Owl matting for my little sluice box.. but then I wish I had a little aluminum one instead of the big pine one I made out of scrap.. It may only weigh 6 pounds but still it feels heavier than that.. plus it's REALLY awkward to carry around.

I live in N. Ireland, and due to continental drift it is part of the Canadian shield. We are said to have the largest known deposits of gold in the world. I have picked up handfuls of topaz lying around, but never thought to try for gold in the streams. The west coast of Ireland will be my holiday location this year.

Now I'm not a expert on gold. And I even don't use those things myself. But when your taking out those mats I think you could roll them up and put it directly in the pan not losing anything and run water to make sure it's out.

Be safe, have fun! just a few questions: Do you overnight at your claims? bears? when you buy a claim what is the approximate size? cost? verses season and claim expenses?
