This morning I had a dream in which I battled a swarm of bad-tempered, gigantic yellow-jackets that had taken over my house. After the awful insects had been destroyed a five-year old girl sat down and sang this song and I sat with her and cried my eyes out. I'm a 35 year old dude and I haven't seen this movie in years. Man, dreams are seriously weird.

The majority of Don Bluths earlier films, such as All Dogs go to Heaven and the Secret of Nimh were his best and more than likely his most memorable. It was sad seeing such a decline in the quality of his work with some exceptions such as Anastasia. I would like to see a good comeback from Bluth, his films fueled my childhood with emotion and imagination. I know I'm not the only one.

Wow. NoOrdinaryGames threw me there, for a second. Yes, Sally Stevens did indeed sing this theme song in "The Secret of NIMH". But her voice is heard not at the end. No, that was Paul Williams. But fear not. Sally's voice does shine with this theme earlier in the film, about 18 minutes from the start. A dreamy voice with a slightly different orchestration. Thanks for highlighting her work.

Such a beautiful rendition! And as a random additional note, part of me wishes that Elizabeth Hartman provided the voice of Littlefoot's mother in The Land Before Time. I can easily hear her voice saying, "Some things you see with your eyes, others you see with your heart."

I figured out that whereas Paul Williams performed the domestic pop version, Sally Stevens performed the lullaby and foreign pop versions.

When I finally got this song on CD several years ago, I cried tears of joy remembering the warmth and beauty of it. My first favorite Don Bluth movie song! Still love the movie too.

This song has multiple emotions combined. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go listen to some happy music before I start tearing up because of how beautiful it sounds. Why do I imagine Mrs. Brisby singing this? Unfortunately I learned the unfortunate truth two days back, because I heard the song, but I didn't see Mrs. Brisby's mouth moving like if she were singing it.

OMG I finally found this version! Yes, in the italian release Sally Stevens sings this song (I have the DVD). Considering the movie, the plot, and Mrs. Brisby's character, I think Flying Dreams should be sung by a female voice, and this is the voice I grew up with and it's the version I LOVE! :)

I always remember the movie and the song. The very first time I’ve heard the death of Elizabeth Hartman, I thought it was after the film. I’ve never realized I misheard the news. It was actually in 1987. Although it was her very last movie.

I've gotta say, this film is endearing.

To this day it's Bluth's best film. I imagine it's because even though it's an animated, family movie, it's not classified as a comedy or a musical, which is the case most of the time. It's really a drama that actually takes itself very seriously, which is probably why it scared so many children.

I was a kid when I saw this movie, and I had a massive crush on Mrs Brisby. My lord, if the movie's USA end credits song was sung by Sally, I would've swooned imagining that I was hearing the character sing. Instead we got some dude singing. I loved the song regardless and memorized every syllable and note. I was a tween budding artist, and this movie pushed me into fervently upgrading my skills. I drew nothing else except The Secret of NIMH, until I finally could match Don Bluth's animators; you could not tell my drawings apart from the movie's stills (no I didn't just trace, I made up my own scenes). It took a year, IIRC. Then I moved on to copying Akira Toriyama, heheh.

Hearing this song by Ms. Stevens, I lament even more how Secret of NIMH should have been the smash hit film to revolutionize American feature animation and jumpstart furry fandom on film. Instead, we had to wait over 20 years later for the artists of DreamWorks Animation have the faith, talent and marketing savvy to do that with Kung Fu Panda and for Disney to solidify it with Zootopia.

Because of the tape, vinyl, or CD aging, the quality sounds like that of a record from the 60s that didn't get a remaster or rerelease. Thanks MGM, just thank you, we could have gotten a much higher quality remaster to this day if you didn't like lazily release the album. When I open up my M.A.P. Music Entertainment account, I'll just record the whole album with DU screen recorder in case the original videos get taken down.

This version of the song is on the new blu ray's Italian soundtrack (in English, of course). Sadly it's not in stereo, but it's better than Paul William's version! Also, we had this sung at our wedding in 1986.
