So, here I am back again after quite a while. I got interested in small, self-contained systems set apart from my large set of cases, and took a deep second look at the shuttle system as a system and not as individual modules. Yes there is a lot of stuff in each panel, but when you look at all the stuff in a single row in the Shuttle system and how it all works together as a self-contained patchable unit, it is a very well-designed and exceptionally complex system. So... I ordered one of the newer black versions... it arrives in a couple of days. :)
Yeah lots of good stuff, really like how simple the front lots of things are just turning knobs and plugging signals in but the ability to really customise and get into the more complex stuff is useful too.
Yeah the function generators we see in euro are all based (however loosely) on the Serge DUSG. However the filters and FX make this a full stereo voice (with addition of oscillators) which is nice.
Great demo Ben, thank you! My only digital filter, so far, is the Rossum Morpheus and that definitely adds some dimensions although the filters on this Endorphin have a convincing 'organic' feel that is very pleasing. Love it!
Yeah the Morpheus really pushes the DSP and could be nothing but digital. The Grand Terminal modules analogue really well and offers some definitely 'digital' elements with the Comb Filter mode.
Absolutely, I'm highly impressed with it. Gonna keep using it as a stereo back end and see how it takes over other modules I've been using. Couple of oscillators and you've got all you need.
When I saw the debut of blck_noir I hunted it down...took me a year... when I saw Andrew Huang cover the shuttle system, my 1st thought was that I couldn't wrap my brain around it...after reading the manuals for grand terminal and furthrrrr generator I immediately ordered them. Tho I didn't get how useful gateway was til you broke it down ben... massive love for being boots on the ground dropping knowledge on noobs like me
Very nice review! I first saw this as part of the whole semi-modular Endprphin.es Airways system. This _could be_ my first module. During the pandemic lockdown, I got an Arturia Minibrute 2S and a Make Noise 0-Coast that play well together, but the modular rack add-on for the 2S is calling my name. The only thing about this that throws me off from buying this is its digital filter.
Hi Thom, not cheap but two function generators that will track and be oscillators with all that control, two complex VA DSP filters and the FX would probably add up to a lot more done in individual modules.
huh. really interested in the high pass into a low pass thing. Thats really cool. Also, I would like to have this module please. amazing review as usual.
Great review - I’ve been curious about this module for awhile. That and their new drum machine. But I have a burning question not related to the Grand Terminal at all. Can you really display an image on the Mordax Data or is that just production trickery?
Hi Josh, that's just me playing around overlaying images in the video edit. Would be cool if you could overlay an image though :) video on their drum machine the BLCK_NOIR coming soon too.
it's not built as a synth voice. But I patched it that way in parts of the video. I walk through what I'm doing in this video so there are oscillators and sources plugged into it.
Maths gives you the logic outputs and the attenuversion, Stages does a lot of different things, Grand Terminal has multimode filters and FX. Some cross over but all pretty different.
How do you compare this grand terminal and gate to the falistri? I have the falistri but like the different filtering/effects/ and low pass gaves of the terminal and gate. which one do ypu prefer and do you think is a cool idea to get both?
ok so first question that comes to mind ... what is it about digital that makes you hesitant or think analogue would be better? While there's some similarity the filter and LPG models on this and the FX make it different.
DivKidVideo i have a uplaits module and it just doesnt seem real. it just jumps to another sound it doesnt blend. also it seems to cut out when blending when it shouldnt. just seems weird and synhetic. i do have to say i do get some cool sounds out of it. when i turn on my moogs brenso, or falistri you can feel that!
I've got a little 1 minute video to put up about that as I knew people would ask. They are Tendrils, from Australia. Erthenvar also make right angled cables in the US.
Nice One :p well i already got it and love the module (and endorphine) and it's like "oh I hope he is gona love it tooo" haha only 7min in though. With the new update Airways they also changed some filter types... second filter isnt 18db diode ladder anymore its MS-20 12db low pass ( airways.endorphin.es/ ) and honestly i kinda miss the old acid type filter. It was easy the best! overall the filters are better with the new update tho I think...
I thought the MS-20 type filter was covering previous in the state variable section, sonically it's definitely got a korg ish character to how it drives. Must have missed that, I'm on the latest firmware though with the new Freezer as FX mode 8.
I canot really tell what kind it is from the hearing... but right after upgrade I heard that it was changed, because I only used the second all the time :p -> also in the old manual it is described as the ladder filter and in the Airways upgrade pdf the MS-20 is mentioned, so i thougth ladder was old one, still got the best acid feel of the filters (first also got much better)
Yeah the new DSP for the virtual analogue stuff is a nice move forward, I've been enjoying that on some soft synths so it's nice to see them implement it here. I haven't had it long enough to be familiar with the older versions so I can't comment on the changes so much.
Inventive names are fantastic, but you know what.... I like the names of things to reflect what they do in an unimaginative way. It's all fine to be artsy fartsy but when I'm actually using something I don't want to remember euphemisms so I can feel like I know what I'm doing.
Although, I must say! Your videos definitely make every module easier to understand, but I know ,in my heart, that as soon as I stop watching this video I will forget everything and be back stuck with my own slow brain.
Hi Thomas, there's a lot here definitely. However you can set it up how you like and then just have two audio signals into two filters, two on board function generators to modulate the filter (or FX) and then FX on the top. For me it makes a really nice stereo "back end" to add oscillators and make stereo voices with.
hahaha I'm sure that's not the case and I'm really happy to have these VAs in the case. The new zero-delay DSP means it sounds easily comparable to my analogue filters but with 8 modes.
