Orido Manabu attempts a record breaking super lap at Tsukuba 2000, driving turboed Esprit Civic EK9. Attempted time 59s, accomplished time 1:01s due to problems with down-force.

+hondahillracing If I had a track car I couldn't care less if it's ugly. The point is to go fast. Of course on street cars I wouldn't put a wing, because you don't need it and you wont be going fast enough for the wing to work anyway. Only thing it'd do is increase drag. But I would put a spoiler on any car as long as it's functional. It can reduce the drag and/or lift

How about car stability during high speed maneuvres or braking no matter which type of powertrain is used in car? Are wings And spoilers really useless ricing? @@Catalina._ why you take my wifes car on Tsukuba? Dafuq, i was talking about Real life situation, on highways is pretty easy to reach high speeds, on these speeds is better to have stability. No matter which kind of powertrain, stable car is better as unstable, when your not exceptionaly good driver, thats fact. Wings bring downforce, this meant all wheels on road without unpleased uplift, that meant safer car easier to tame..... In this tsukuba video shot you can clearly see downforce effect on fwd car. D14 civic on Tsukuba, i dont even wrote that this way, your crazy........

Funny because I was watching the old super lap battles last night and saw this exact segment and drew up some N1 vents on my EK with eraseable marker. Now I'm ordering brake ducting hose as we speak haha! Great video. Thanks for the uploads *****

any car needs down force from front to rear of the chassis to improve grip. the debate that FF car dont need rear wing is a fuckng invalid debate because it is still a car and the wing provide stability. especially for a track car.

+asambi69 Flat floor + diffuser set only works when the car is extremely close to the ground though. Which also means using very stiff springs as well. Also with that the need for even more downforce doesn't go anywhere. Putting a wing on it after that will give even bigger downforce :)

This car needs suspension refinement to help with the rear. Diffuser is to limit lift your not gonna get to a high enough speed to justify that on this track. The wing slows the car down. Fix the rear sway and spring rate and it will be a lot more stable.

this is true! i have a ek civic coupe and i took off the wing and it felt so unstable, the rear of the car felt like it had no traction and it was swerving side to side on a straight line. my spoiler is back on the car

I love the moronic comments. This car is different from the ricer civic driving down the street. This car is setup to oversteer bigger rear tires, less rear spring, or smaller rear sway will help the rear stay planted. However you want some oversteer but this needs further suspension refinement.

You need to setup FF cars for oversteer to be fast. Lesson #1 in track fwd cars, including in BTCC and other racing series with front wheel drive cars

@@Shadowboost not true the car needs to be setup for the driver to feel comfortable. Plenty of civics are fast that understeer. It's all preference.

@@gmabailey40 any racing car that understeers is slow. Period. There's no debate about it. You scrub speed mid corner and have to straighten the wheel early to regain traction. That's slow. Fwd cars are setup to oversteer. Point the car where you want to be and use throttle to pull you out if the corner. This was setup with too much oversteer, compounded by new front tyres and removed wing, made it spin.

@@antonyaiken that's not true at all. You need to learn left foot braking. Plenty of fast fwd cars that understeer instead of oversteer. It inspires confidence. The reason some people like the fwd to oversteer so they can use the throttle to straighten out. Still all based on setup both can be very slow. Drive a newer civic or accord both understeer and have much better turn in than a tuned eg/ek.

Braking will send all the weight to the front tires and off the rear. This is problematic because being an FF, the weight is already bias to the front. You've gotta enter the corner at the correct speed and then throttle through it to keep weight on the rear.

This is why 500HP on an FF car isn't advisable. Tuners, I advice you to tune your front wheel drive cars to just about 350HP. It may be low-powered, but it will be able to corner well

it's a bit strange, with no wings, he tells that the car don't have traction in 4th gear, but the wings push down the bottom of the car and raises the front, so why that happened? They changed even the tires, and the problem seems that they have no grip in general, so i suppose that can be a tires problem. I dont think actually that the wings makes nothing, but what i want to said is that you don't have to put 2 variables, beacause you dont know what is the cause of the incorrect behavior of the car.

+GT6SuzukaTimeTrials They are. The problem with FF's is the rear can be extremely light and easily prone to losing traction at high speeds or in some cases will bounce easily. Something gotta control those back tires since there is no torque going to them.

+GT6SuzukaTimeTrials Pretty much any fast FF track car runs very stiff rear suspension to negate understeer and help the front end bite. Without downforce provided by a wing the rear of the car gets really twitchy and unpredictable at high speed. Other aero bits up front like a splitter or dive planes won't work properly without a wing to balance things out also.
