I sometimes wonder if Sephiroth has deeper meaning than just classified as FF7's main villain. He might give Cloud a hard time..but you can't deny, he usually has Cloud encouraged to keep going strong after every conversation they have. If it wasn't for Sephiroth, Cloud probably already would've given up. I wonder...Are these guys truly enemies? Or very strange friends?
Yeah y’know. Just like that one strange friend we all have. The one that burned our hometown to cinders, murdered our friends and family, so we stab in the torso then hurl into the planet’s core enabling them to become the next incarnation of God. Aah... I really should give Kevin a call.
While obviously none of this is 'canon' to Final Fantasy VII's timeline, I feel some of the dialogue in these scenes are really helpful in understanding the dynamic between Cloud and Sephiroth as characters, especially in the remake. It's helpful because this is one of the few instances where Sephiroth is pretty clear and frank with how he views Cloud as a person, and lays out in clear terms what his intentions are and how he feels Cloud should be treated. To him, Cloud is just a puppet, not just in the literal sense because of Jenova, but as a person. Cloud is broken and aimless and needs to be manipulated and motivated by external forces in order to act, at least in Sephiroth's opinion. Understanding that paints Sephiroth's words and actions in the remake in a different light. It's pretty clear the game of manipulation is still very much alive between these two.
It's kinda debatable how cannon Dissidia really is, because NT has the characters not only retain all their memories from duodecim but their og world as well.
The FF7 canon is just the original FF7 universe, but every appearance in other games has significantly built on the relationship of Cloud and Sephiroth

Old comments but think about it . Sephiroth out of the majority of the villains was *once* a hero at one point he understands reasons and the questions a hero has (better explained if you know exactly what happens to him and how he acquires centuries of knowledge within a few years ) *the mansion*. *the true sephy being crystallized and gaining the rest of the info from the planet itself* My point is that he understands what cloud is going through in a way , being a hero himself but gaining so much knowledge about the world and “himself” gave him plenty reason to go bad besides.. it’s either die a hero or live long enough to turn into a villain. All the things he knew, made that process skyrocket
We are all sinners, born with a nature that wants only to please itself. The sinful desires within us vary from person to person, but the root is the same (Romans 3:11). When we realize how broken we are and that we cannot have fellowship with a holy God in such a deplorable condition, we gratefully accept the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for us (2 Corinthians 5:21). He paid the price that we owed to God for our treason against our Creator. He also paid the penalty for the sin of homosexuality, just as He did for pride, rape, adultery, and theft. Those sins, and a thousand more, are what keep us from God and sentence us to an eternity without Him. We cannot continue to define ourselves by the very sins that crucified Jesus, while also assuming that we are right with God. First Corinthians 6:9-10 lists many of the sins that the Corinthians once practiced (homosexuality is on the list). But verse 11 reminds them, “That is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” In other words, some of the Corinthians, before they were saved, used to live gay lifestyles; but no sin is too great for the cleansing power of Jesus. Once cleansed, we are no longer defined by sin.Homosexual behavior won’t damn a person any more quickly than pride or greed or adultery. Without Christ, we are lost, whether gay, straight, or asexual. But, when we surrender our lives to the lordship of Jesus, He gives us a new nature (2 Corinthians 5:17). He destroys the power that sin once held over us (Romans 6:1-7). The old nature that once dictated our actions has been conquered in a born-again child of God (John 3:3). Temptation still rages. Weaknesses still torment. But the power of the Holy Spirit helps us to resist Satan and overcome the sins that once held us captive (Colossians 2:14; James 4:7). We can choose new life in Jesus or the old life of sin. But we cannot have both (Matthew 6:24). God offers forgiveness to anyone and everyone who will repent and believe and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. This includes those involved in any sin. Once salvation through Christ is received, God will begin the process of destroying the acts of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21) and developing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Sometimes God removes our desire for a particular sin and other times He gives us strength to resist temptation. The process of transformation takes a lifetime. When we fail, God is faithful to forgive and cleanse (1 John 1:9). He is also faithful to complete His work in us (Philippians 1:6). The promise of a "new creation" is available to anyone who will trust in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
The Sephiroth in Dissidia is merely a figment of Cloud's mind, a motivation of sorts. It takes on a physical form in Dissidia's world to challenge Cloud and give him the push he needs to be a true hero. If anything, this Sephiroth is the same one from Kingdom Hearts. The real one is gone, roaming somewhere in the life stream.

"I knew you'd come." That's what she said. On a serious note, Seph is like a bad awful rash that you can't get rid of. He keeps coming back one way or another.
It's odd that he doesn't seem much like a villain then a reason. Come to think of it, the only time he ever wanted to fight in the game was when it was against Sephiroth. Even in the movie. However, in Dirge, he didn't even have much of a will to fight there. Maybe because it wasn't Sephiroth.
Call it a headcanon, but I like to think that Cloud's soul searching after the events of the game led him to reflect on how much of his life had been taken up by battles and military operations. He realized that the world he lives in doesn't need conflict, but a period of peace that would allow recovery from the world-threatening event that had only recently been avoided. He also wanted time to recover and get over the losses and traumas that he, himself sustained, and actively attempted to recover, even when fighting. Again, this is actually just a headcanon, so ...yeah.
In some way, yes. Even more so if this Sephiroth isn't real, but is a part of Cloud himself. That seems to be a recurring theme in other adaptations like Kingdom Hearts, where Sephiroth symbolizes the darkness/pain/etc. within Cloud. The real Sephiroth had humanity, even while he was descending into madness. This Sephiroth seems less real, strange even. He's not pursuing Cloud's destruction like he once did, he's guiding him.

Sephiroth has definitely gain a mutual respect for Cloud but I think he still hates Cloud to an extent. He just accepts that he is the only person (atleast with in FF7) that can give him a proper fight.
@@christianlopez707 Is the only one that he stabs in the same place like 3 times and other vital points and he didn't die. Whereas the other die by one stab.

I really get a twisted sense of 'love' from sephiroth, like an extremely abusive and manipulative older sibling who wants what he thinks is best for cloud, the messiah complex doesn't help I suppose.
Their tone here...it's almost like I can see Cloud actually forgiving Sephiroth for what he did. Honestly, that would make for an interesting twist. I loved Sephiroth in Crisis Core for being rather normal, as normal as one from his upbringing could be. Him and Cloud working together to defeat a new foe would be cool. Maybe someone from Jenova's planet comes to Gaia, and the cells similar to Jenova's starts affecting them both, controlling them to do something terrible. And so to save the world and themselves, they join forces as frenemies to defeat that evil. Also, the more I keep hearing more of George Newbern, the more upset I get at Remake's new guy.
I think it is the other way around I think Seth needs Cloud. Cloud and live his live life and become happy and actually retire from being a mercenary( which he actually did), yet seph just keep wanting more. Kinda like the Joker and batman.
This, is what I imagine a very evil person would be like. I dont think sephiroth even realizes how limited and evil he really is. Sephiroth is taking advantage of cloud, but thats because cloud still is not searching. He thinks he is looking for something, but he is doing it very selfishly. Sephiroth knows this, and is simply a distraction that has already been dealt with. Yet, cloud keeps paying attention to him.
Poor Cloud he thinks he's in control but at least his version he, unfortunately, isn't when you really look at the relationship between these two Or I could be horribly wrong
+Evelyn L. Eh, I wouldn't say Sephiroth is obsessed with cloud. I see them having a friendship relationship.(not a fan of yoi/yuri, sorry) any way, because Cloud saw Sephiroth who he looked up to slowly go insane and go through hell of shin-ra himself makes him have dreams like this, wishing for the time when they were friends. that's my little head cannon, LOL.
I like to think that Sephiroth sees Zack inside of Cloud. Before Sephiroth turned insane he was good friends with Zack. Maybe deep down the reason he clings and torments Cloud so much is because of his connection to Zack. He no longer has a way of showing friendship, so he has his own way of communicating with Cloud by tormenting him and fucking with his head, as some kind of sick form of "tough love" per say. Otherwise, Sephiroth would've just obliterated him a looong time ago with no conversation at all.
I feel like Sephiroth is attracted to anyone who can beat him in physical combat. That’s why he always wants Cloud to fight him, you can’t convince me otherwise.
I think all of these various compilations that Sephiroth and Cloud are in have a lot more canonicity than what folks give it credit for. Their story has been building up to Remake. Sephiroth is depicted as the villain, but he has also been the guide for Cloud to find himself-- the very thing Cloud needs yet will not accept from Sephiroth because it is Sephiroth after all.
sephiroth really be on clouds case all the time like "you're a puppet and can't make your own decisions" like bro didn't you fall into a delusion that an alien life form was your mother and try to take over the world but you were killed but your jenova cells allowed you to form a new body and jenova tried to reform but took your form a you really didn't do most of the villaining it was just jenova leading you the whole way there??🤨🤨🤨🤨
Sephiroth: A dream, is easy to nip in the butt. Cloud: In the “bud”. Sephiroth: Do what? Cloud: the expression is “Nip it in the ‘bud’” not “butt”... Sephiroth: I don’t... Cloud: oh my god dude, for real? Like, how long have you been saying it like that? Sephiroth: Fight me or I’ll kill your friends!
Sephiroth is basically saying my exact thought tbh. He does not have strongest motif to stop Sephiroth like Zack has. Like Zack know Seph, so he had to knock some sense into Sephiroth. Cloud on the other hand....took Zack's duty because he said "You are my legacy" That shows how he "took somebody's reason as his own" like Seph said. Idk he basically just do whatever reason he got to pursue Sephiroth and always, always looking for one. Even if it's not truly his. That's also why he made chaos to bait Cloud in the game, he know Cloud will follow as long as he cause a scene especially if its regarding his friends. Every time he save people, its because of others, not for himself. What if Aerith never died, will he has the same drive as he is now? And how did he got so tangled in FF VII, really? What's his reason? And I was never a fan of Cloud from the beginning because of this, too x.x

Ya know..all you Cloud fangirls feeling hurt & 'poor cloud..yada yada'..You know that Cloud could just ignore Sephiroth & search for his friends instead, right? But being a dumb puppet that he is, he keeps coming back to Seph. The heroes have their free will in Dissidia Universe, but Cloud CHOSE to follow Sephiroth. He is just that dumb. A puppet..and his fangirls should just get over with their fanon, thinking Cloud is some kind of 'helpless damsel in distress that needs to be protected'. He knows how to kill people, especially Sephiroth. He'll be fine. Smh.
To be fair, In Kingdom Hearts Recoded (The cinematic ones) he sounds way better (Probably because his attitude was similar to how he was in the beginning of FF7. Dissidia resembles his Advent Children personality which made him sound confused and doubtful in every sentence. Plus Dissidia naturally has bad dialogue so that makes It sound way worse.
Actually, Cloud's voice actor is a highly revered voice actor. The spin off FFVII content hasn't had the best audio/dialogue/editing. Out of the two, Sephiroth probably has the 'bad' voice actor.
