This video is made as a guideline to show you how to change the engine oil on a 1997-2011 Ford Ranger. In this video I am showing a 4.0L V6. The 3.0L V6 will look very similar, and the 2.3L will not be as similar but You can still apply the same general knowledge.
I hope it was helpful!
Parts/Oil used in this video:
- Castrol GTX 5w-30: amzn.to/3xpZhPK
- Oil Filter: amzn.to/3mkyhL0

Please note that I am not a professional mechanic, nor am I saying that you have to do exactly what I say in this video. Perform these repairs at your own risk! Safety first ;)

I loved when you dropped the oil plug into the used oil pan. I am glad you pointed out about making sure to check that the old oil filter gasket came off. My son found out the hard way on his Mustang. He changed oil, started it up, and oil was flying everywhere from the fan, what a mess.

It happens! Better to find out that way than after having lost oil pressure!

Hola amigo, muy buen video, bien detallado y concreto. Me sirvió para cambiarle el aceite a mi ranger del 2003. Un gran saludo desde Argentina 🇦🇷🤙!!

Great video, man! I decided it was pathetic that I don't know how to change my own oil so I watched this video and just did it. Hardest part was on my Ranger, the filter was really hard to get to, but other than that, a really smooth process. This video made it easy for me to tell what was what when it did it.

You can always punch a hole on the bottom of the filter to drain it before removal to avoid all the spilling. Nice video though.

My 30 year old car uses a bit of oil about 3 liters in the last year. I just poor in new oil in once it becomes a bit low. Should I do a complete oil change from time to time? (I'm new to cars just and got mine like a year ago)
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT 2 года назад
Well there are multiple things to address here. First of all, yes. Regular oil & oil filter changes are required if you want your car to survive. Oil is like the blood of the engine. You need to keep it fresh and clean so it can lubricate. If it gets old and dirty it will not lubricate properly and you will cause engine damage. Never doing an oil change will eventually completely ruin the engine and it won't last very long. Doing very few oil changes won't ruin it as fast but will make it very dirty inside with a lot of buildup which can cause other issues and in the end also ruin the engine. Depending on what oil you are using, your driving style, how much you drive, and also what car you have, that will determine how often you need to change it. If you answer those questions I can try to help you determine that. One last thing is you always want to make sure that it stays full between oil changes. Which it sounds like you're doing so that's good. Hope this helps!

You can punch a hole in the bottom of the oil filter before removing it to drain the oil. It will be easier and cleaner!

Yeah I've done that before but I often find it not to be worth the trouble and time spent doing that.

I noticed that you only use Castrol in your vehicles, I just wanted to know why you prefer Castrol over other brands like valvoline that offer similar oil grades and viscosities?
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT Год назад
I found that Castrol has better additives for higher performance but also for older and more tired engines. But I have also used Valvoline a lot and there's nothing wrong with it. Price is also a big factor. Castrol and Valvoline are still well priced. Castrol also offers conventional and synthetic blends, which I prefer because i change my oil very often, so I don't need full synthetic. I run it sometimes, but usually I go for a synthetic blend.

I have a 3.0L should I just use conventional or go with synthetic
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT 7 месяцев назад
Up to you, convetional won't hurt but you have to change it every 3k miles. A blend every 5k and full synthetic every 7k.

@@AutoFixYT well damn I woulde went with full synthetic but they didn’t have any in stock for my truck lol 😂 oh well I’ll just have to wait 3,000 miles before I change it again

@ELI.K55069 honestly on my cars I wouldn't ever go over 5k no matter what oil i put lol

Yes overall they do. Not sure why. I have 212k miles on this one. All original.

Did this guideline forget to change the drain plug washer?
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT 2 года назад
Yes I re-used the drain plug washer/gasket. I always re-use them until they start to leak. I know you're supposed to replace it with every oil change though.
@nate2838
@nate2838 Год назад
@@AutoFixYT I believe this is why my truck is leaking oil, seems jiffy lube wasn't changing the washers out. So recommendation - if its your car, do what you want. If its someone elses, friends or family, change the washer, you don't know how many changes it has been through, and you don't want to take a chance on having them call and say they now have an oil leak.
@AutoFixYT
@AutoFixYT Год назад
Completely agree. This being my truck I know how many times I reuse it and eventually I replace it.

@@AutoFixYT It's just really inconvenient that it's on the side like that. It would be nice to change your oil without having to use brake cleaner 😂
