"Frustrating" is the undeniable word for this film. They've played it so safe you almost feel they were terrified of hurting Mozza's feelings. Run of the mill coming of age movie about a most unconventional pop singer.

The second I saw the title of this I knew the comments would be flooded with 'England is my city.' I was not disappointed.

Am I the only person who actually likes Morrissey's personality? I feel like he sees the truth, and isn't afraid to speak it.

It’s the story of a soft man with words like punches. While the rest of Manchester was being taken by the hyper-masculine, invigorating, energy of punk, Morrissey went against the current and created a unique place for himself and for The Smiths. Is he pedantic? Of course, that’s why we love him. He’s genuine. He could’ve never made it as another punk act with abstract anger against “the system” or the “rich” or the “queen” (though he’s hated the royals all his life). His anger feels more directed and focused toward a humanity that relishes in mediocrity, cheap shots and cruelty.

So it pretty much accurately portrays Morrisey IRL then?

This "review' of the film, if that's what it is, is missing the point completely. They say the Morrissey character is full of himself, slags everyone off and is aloof..............well guess what sherlock that's who Morrissey is. Manchester was a very drab, cold, harsh and grey place in the 60's and 70's and according to Morrissey life for him was boring and humdrum and i think the movie portrays this quite well. Some people are pissed off b'cos this movie wasn't about The Smiths. Again they're missing the point, it's not supposed to be about The Smiths. why? cos The Smiths didn't exist at the time. A couple of practical facts regarding this pic: 1/ This is a "dramatization' of events, and like all dramatizations things are not always 100% accurate. Just like poets and songwriters have licence to exaggerate, enhance and borrow so do movie directors and producers. 2/ The movie was not given permission to use Smiths songs.

Perhaps it's because Morrissey just was, and is to this day, despite all his talents, really quite irritating. That fact is hardly the filmmakers' fault.

I think the fact that Morrissey seems like a giant douche in the movie means that the portrait is accurate

As a massive fan of Morrissey's work, I do not understand why we need this movie. Morrissey is a very intelligent man, and any film about his work is bound to be interesting, but as a person, he is a complete prat. Yes, he was less annoying than he is now back in his younger years, but still, a Morrissey movie can't work unless he is either singing or getting slapped

To me Morrissey or Steven Patrick Morrissey is a classic case of a convert narcassistic despite his talent as a singer and songwriter. He does comes off a prickish and pompous arse. Besides I wasn't 100% fans of the Smiths( or of his solo work in 90s). I always found it to self-pitying and mopish in a kind exaggerated or over-top kind of a way.

If Morrissey comes off as an annoying prat in this film, then I'd say 'Job well done!' As much as I adore The Smiths, for me Morrissey really is one of the most dis-likable people in music, past or present.

England is mine was so boring because there were no smiths songs, it was frustrating to even sit through and it was trying to make people redeem Morrissey for all the terrible things he's done

Great Film without the usual OTT nonsense a lot of biopics have. Robbie is far more irritating than the Film. Pity Mark was off this week.

oh, as much as I will watch it and enjoy it, I think the majority of smiths fans would have enjoyed a film similar to oasis' supersonic. I wonder if johnny marr, mike Joyce and Andy Rourke would have narrated it if something similar to supersonic was made, I doubt Morrissey would, that would really appeal to the smiths fans , there are plently of recordings of live performances to add in as well If only the smiths never broke up :(

White privilege!! Second generation Irish immigrant from Old Trafford growing up in the 1970s!! If you come from a working class background you'd understand a son's love for his mother, usually the only parent around. White privilege!! First big laugh of the day!! Nice one👍👍
